Rush was RUDE today!!!!!!
Rush Limbaugh | 4/29/04 | myself

Posted on 04/29/2004 11:58:44 AM PDT by pollywog

I am SO ANGRY at Rush Limbaugh right now!! In his last segment he really bashed and basically made fun of people who have Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. He apparently has not done " his homework" on this one.He read from a article, but I didn't hear who had written it. My granddaughter and husband both suffer from Aspergers. It has been a very difficult journey for our daughter and son in law. Rush will get LOTS of angry emails concerning this!!!

"You know I don't think the guy is to be ridiculed. It must be amazing to live one's life knowing something is very very wrong and not knowing what it is and then finding a name for it and that others have it. I think that would bring anyone to tears. Why make fun of that is my question?"

When I found out about this syndrome. I shrugged my shoulders and muttered "meh" then continued on with my life.

Sounds to me like honesty and friendliness has been given a new name and declared to be an illness.

Comic Book Guy atleast runs a business.

He is more like Barney Gumble, but sober and on a couch.

Well, it seems we can commiserate, Folks.

I'll volunteer this: The Boy is on Straterra. An incredibly light dose; I wondered if it was too light. But there's nothing to argue the effect. It's in his bloodstream for 6-8 hours, and then it's gone.

One of the side effects, supposedly, is loss of appetite. Tell me where - The Boy eats more! And I call that a good thing, too.

I would think Aspergers and programming would fit nicely.

Correct. I haven't been officially diagnosed, but I match nearly all the descriptions. As a software developer, the strengths help a great deal and the weaknesses don't hurt much. (Of course, social/romantic life and lack thereof is a less pleasant matter).

Call me daffy, but that sounds like she's a little bit too honest and has a pretty well-developed sense of humor! I had to laugh at the "horse" story since that's the sort of thing my daughter would do. She's a touch wacky like that. Are you sure she's not just the class clown type?

My bet is she'll find some slightly wacky friends just like her -- I did, so has my daughter. God bless you and your granddaughter.

I'll be listening tomorrow for sure to hear if he mentions it. You should try to call tomorrow on open-line friday. I've gotten through twice on OLF.

well dear, half of us are women in this country. Can't we feminize it abit if that means telling Rush he was an insensitive clod, after all we tell our hubbies that daily. I hate touchy feeling stuff too but that doesn't mean I lose sympathy for kids with problems or make fun of the ill.

I am a professor and my fiancee is a Learning Disabilities specialist at another state university plus has coached adults with asbergers on how to function in their jobs, etc. There is an epidemic of students with asbergers coming down the pike and it is just now hitting college age. Don't believe me? start asking elementary teachers about asberger's incidence in their classes now vs. 10-15 years ago. It is VERY real. These kids, young adults absolutely cannot function socially and it tears them up

Well said rodi. Thanks.

My parents reducing my sugar intake and increasing my physical activity made a tremendous difference in me as a child.

And there are many "old wive's tales" that actually work.

How many jokes does he poke at those addicted to hillbilly heroin?

Exactly my point. Not too many, as far as I can remember. So there goes the argument others were saying about "Lighten up, he pokes fun at everyone!" No, he pokes fun at everyone but those like himself.

I don't really listen to him, I must admit. But this is because virtually everytime I tune in he's making some assinine comment like this. (the subject of the thread)

I wish him all the best, and I do think he's smart. I think he shoots the conservative cause in the foot many times with his ego though.

what can be done nutritionally to treat ADD/ADHD?

Some things every parent can do for their child is make sure the get plenty of sleep (8.5 - 9.25 hours a night) and give them Omega-3 (fish oil) supplements. (Make sure they are molecularly distilled to get out all the mercury.)

Some children with sleep deprivation are misdiagnosed with ADD and Omega-3 supplementation has been shown to help some ADD sufferers.

yes, they said it could potentially cause weight loss. Mine is also a good eater and it has not inhibited her in that regard. Though she might have been chubby were she not taking the adderall! i thank God that the meds worked for her, because contrary to those that think that eliminating sugar and TV and beating them with a strap, nothing else worked. Her progress has been remarkable.

Rush is out of line on this as he has been on several other diseases he does not believe in.

He sure wanted sympathy when his hearing loss was explained by a disease that really didn't exist, and that turned out to be related to his addiction...

Maybe he thinks that is what other folks are doing too...
Making up stories to cover for their lifestyle related diseases. I have heard him do it about lupus, chronic fatigue and several other measurable clinically diagnosed diseases...

Rush is almost always right.
He is however not a doctor of medicine, psychiatry or psychology.... and he makes fun of sick people, too much for my likiing.

after he deliberately mispronounced it a$$-burgers, fifty or sixty times, I got the idea he was enjoying the pronunciation a little too much... so I gave him a break, by tuning into something else.

yeah, that is the interesting thing. You can do things that would drive some of us nuts. Being a programmer would make me seriously depressed and nuts. But for you, it is making use of what you are! Now the romantic thing,,I do believe there is someone out there for you! Go look.

Thank you for giving another " picture" of aspergers. Our granddaughter also is part of a loving church and the director of Jr. High has even tried taking her on outings with with the others. The bottom line is, when my daughter calls for friends to come over to play with her, they are always " conveniently busy" or have other plans etc, and she knows it is because " Darla " is different...Yes, thank God for the church or she would be completely at a loss.
