I am SO ANGRY at Rush Limbaugh right now!! In his last segment he really bashed and basically made fun of people who have Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. He apparently has not done " his homework" on this one.He read from a article, but I didn't hear who had written it. My granddaughter and husband both suffer from Aspergers.It has been a very difficult journey for our daughter and son in law. Rush will get LOTS of angry emails concerning this!!!

Rush is brilliant when it comes to politics and I usually enjoy his show. But I always cringe when he starts bloviating on medical matters.

He is generally clueless when it comes to health issues and not wise enough to just keep his mouth shut concerning things about which he knows nothing. I was hoping his own medical problems would make him more sensitive to the health problems of others, but I guess not.

JennysCool, for one thing, she is very abrupt and says what MOST girls her age would just think, yet not say. " I don't like your hair,because I don't like curls."....." you can't sit there because that chair is only for " Lilo, my friend"( imaginary of course!) LOTS of pretend or a deep imagination. One day going into a restaurant with her, she turned to me and said " Grandma, these cars are all horses.....these are their stalls( referring to the parking spots)....then promptly turned to a couple getting out of their car and LOUDLY said, " Your HORSE is nice".You ought to have seen THEIR FACES!! Can you imagine how girls her own age would react to these situations. They back away from her, thinking she is strange. *sigh*

The list of "rules" while you are pregnant is a 1000 pages long ,and the "how to care for" list is longer! How did humans make it this long without all these rules, meds, experts, etc...

The problem mainly is because our society has become so information-oriented; there's just too much of it out there. My advice: just use common sense, and your child will do just fine (but if you don't have common sense, revert to the 1000 page "how to care for" list).

It turns out the the "even though nothing has changed" quote wasn't by the author.

Sorry, try again; that's just an old wive's tale. No scientific basis to it whatsoever. In fact, if you look at a diabetic who has an elevated blood sugar level, you would see someone who becomes increasingly more lethargic as their level gets higher.

I agree with your sentiment, but do you need to use the Lord's name in vain?

My grand father is very involved in his church and great friends with the priest and higher ups in the diocese. I remember the first time the Montsenior (sp?) joined us on the golf course. I have a bit of a temper on the course, and use colorful langugage. My grandfather told me before we teed off to keep it under control because of who we were playing with.

Well, the Montsenior was not a good golfer. Threw clubs, swore, and regularly yelled "God Damnit!", "Jesus Christ", "Son of a Bitch!" amongst other things. My grandfather, clearly upset by his language given who he was said to him, "Montsenior, watch your language."

He replied, "God doesn't listen to you on the golf course."

If the meds don't help, then the problem is probably just behavioral, and requires a different solution.

Kindly inform the "doctors" of this bit of common sense. I've seen a number of cases where the "medications" either show no improvement, or seem to make the child's behaviour even worse ... the response to which is more drugs, and more types of drugs ... simultaneously. It can't possibly have anything to do with the single mother and her sometimes-live-in boyfriend(s) being verbally abusive, alternately neglectful or smothering, parking the kids in front of the moronbox for hours at a time, etc... If I was one of those kids, I'd be depressed and a bit nutz too. But the solution isn't pharmacological.

but oh how some freepers love to definitively OPINE despite not having had any sort of experience in this area. Yes, the meds are not for every child and i will agree they are overprescribed. NO SCHOOL suggested that we put our daughter on meds. she attended Catholic school and we did all of the testing etc on our own, at our own behest.

if she doesn't have the med on a given day, it is IMMEDIATELY obvious to her teacher and to anyone attempting to do schoolwork with her, she could not do the simplest math problem.

You know I don't think the guy is to be ridiculed. It must be amazing to live one's life knowing something is very very wrong and not knowing what it is and then finding a name for it and that others have it. I think that would bring anyone to tears. Why make fun of that is my question?

I have two children that have/had severe speech problems. Sometimes shyness is caused by speech problems.

Both the shyness and the speech problems are hard to deal with. I does affect their education and then it will affect their ability to go to college and get a job.

Sometimes people think my daughter is okay because she is very cute to look at. It's what they don't see that is scary. She has severe brain damage. It's only visible to an MRI. People think she's quiet because she is shy. She actually has a very hard time talking. She's 7, and she's been in therapies since she was 2. She'll be in therapy for many years to come. So far, she is keeping up in school, but we'll see how she does in the next few years.

My daughter is actually doing better than the kids with Asperger's, so I can't imagine what those parents are going through. My daughter has a great attention span, is great at math, and is an average reader. She also is doing well in a regular ed class. The kids I know with Asperger's do not function in a regular ed class, and they are having a hard time with their education. I feel sorry for the kids and their parents.

I was just casting my mind back to the '40s and '50s when people were still relying more on a faith in God and their own will power to survive. My mother lost two of her younger sisters to influenza in the early teens so don't tell me about medical advancements. Some of it's good, but there is a lot of pseudo science being passed off as gospel by the media, the AMA and the pharmaceutical companies. Too much introspection and too much whining today. All this touchy-feely stuff is infectious. I call it, "The feminization (or Oprahization) of America".

nah, the unibomber was complicated,,I think he had paranoid schizophrenia and descended into it in college. He was well preserved in that his ability to take care of himself and plan was preserved. He was one crazy SOB but responsible under the law for his crimes.

I have a lot of medical professionals (not your status quo types I might add) in my different spheres and would be happy to point you to the most, IMO, efficacious and unfiltered information you could care to study.

Knowing where you are at in your process of serious due diligence would help me to reduce the amount of information you have to sift through. And there's a significant amount of it out there, it's just getting past everyone's agendas that have nothing to do with helping pipple.
