That poll was of "adults" -- so for all we know they are all Kerry voters. But this way the pollsters don't have to identify the mix.

what?

When they have polls of "voters" or "likely voters", to make the poll relevant, they poll people in the ratio of actual voters, x% Dems and y% Republicans, to get the right mix.

When they just poll "adults" -- they don't ask them whether they are even citizens, much less, whether they are Republicans or Democrats, so if you say poll adults in a predominently Dem area, or totaly randomly, you don't really get a representative sample.

The liberal media started to do this lately, because they can't get the answers they want, when they poll voters in the right ratio.

They could poll the winos on skid row and it could be legitimately stated, that they polled "adults".

Hussein's Agents Are Behind Attacks in Iraq, Pentagon Finds
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1126402/posts

So the Iraqis we captured are most likely Saddam's henchmen, organizing and perpetrating attacks on OUR soldiers.

Are we are supposed to cry for them?

What do you want our soldiers to do with the terrorists when they catch them, bow and curtsy to them and bring them tea?

I expect them to honor their oath, behave professionally as representatives of a western nation based on Judeo-Christian values. We are not an Islamic tribe and do not behave as if we were one. I expect them to adhere to the UCMJ. The vast majority do exactly that. Those that don't subjected themselves to the UCMJ when they volunteered. Treatment of such prisoners has nothing to do with what they did or who they are or whether they are animals or not. It has to do with who we are, what we do, and what our values are.

Whoever took the photos should have gone through the military justice system and not the media. We cannot determine the facts of this case from mere photos. But to imply that we should brutalize prisoners based on who they are rather than what our values are is ridiculous.

"Treatment of such prisoners has nothing to do with what they did or who they are or whether they are animals or not. "

Like heck, it doesn't. You keep confusing legitimate POW-s with terrorists.

Or rather, I should have said, you are confusing terrorists with POW-s.

Folks, what the soldiers did was wrong.

I can't believe I am reading comments going after CBS for reporting a valid story here. Would you prefer it be covered up and ignored?

I saw part of the report and found it to be fair.

I'm not confusing anything. Like I said, it makes no difference who the prisoner is, it matters who we are.

American servicemembers are under order not to abuse any prisoner regardless of who they are. They took an oath not to disobey legal orders. If they do so they are disobeying a direct order and violating their oath.

You can't tell jack squat from photos. They provide absolutely no context. But in general, you can't disobey orders and violate your oath and get a free pass.

If these charges are true it's bad, but I'm inclined to give our soldiers the benefit of the doubt. I want to hear more of their side of the story. Even if they make full confessions to all of the charges, I think the Army should be lenient with them. 7 guys handling 900+ prisoners? And I'm sure those prisoners were very well behaved. And I'm sure they were all just shoplifters, not terrorists who had ambushed American soldiers, built and planted roadside bombs and otherwise bear responsibility for the 500+ Americans killed since the war "ended."

One other thing, this quote from Gen. Kimmit: "Our soldiers could be taken prisoner as well. And we expect our soldiers to be treated well by the adversary, by the enemy."

The way those de pantsed American soldiers with the bullet holes in the center of their foreheads on al jazeera on March 23, 2003 were treated?

BTW .. How did Dan get this report?

That's what I'd like to know. How did he know it, and when did he find out? My guess is there is some anti-war nut whistleblower on the inside that the liberal stooges in the media have been hoping to dig up.

CBS has always had a deep seeded agenda when it comes to Republican administrations. Beyond that, Liberals hate the military, so they're going to go to great lengths to tear the military down any which way they can, while saying "See, John Kerry was right". Thereby bashing Bush, Republicans, and saying the Iraqi war was illegitimate. This may not be the central focus right away, but CBS will work their Liberal bias into the story somehow, by masquerading their bias as some "valid story".

Some people need to learn just how the Liberal media organ operates. They pretend to be our friend one day, then the next day they're bashing Conservatives, and Republicans.

Same thing with this John Kerry business with ABC's GMA interview with John Gibson. They'll pretend to be "fair and balanced" when they aren't.

There was no system in the way prisoners were handled. If CIA or inteligence wanted to torture them I have no problems with it. But they should have done it themselves and NOT taken any stupid pictures. The whole thing is embarassing and amateurish.

Geneva convention doesnt apply to the people who were held in the prison anyway. They were not POW, by geneva convention US has full right to summary execute the whole lot. Insurgents, spies etc have no rights, they are completely free game. US executed german infiltrators during the battle of the Bulge in a very efficient manner. These insurgents deserve same.

You saw those terorrists in Jordan? How talkative they were eh? Whatever inteligence thinks is needed to make them talk should be done. But it should be done in a proffesional manner, by people who know what to do and how to keep the thing from getting out. Using reservists for this was beyond retarded. Whoever organised the prison system is responsible for this.

What is dissapointing is military trying to find scapegoats in the form of the troops. Who they ordered to perform function that had nothing to do with what they trained to do. They F*)(&* it up bad. Whoever planned it needs to pay not them. Through their actions they tried to help their bothers who were being shot at on daily basis on the streets of Baghdad. They were amateurs so they screwed it up, but their motivation is very understandable.

I dont think that anyone should be tortured-
You seem to equate non-acceptance of torture with love of the enemy...bad train of logic.

Here's a question for you..If someone was breaking your fingers and toes, one by one, what would you tell them to get them to stop?

probably anything

There are better ways

Besides, if we want the rest of the world to see us as good and noble, torture isnt an effective vehicle for this

Bear in mind that CBS was looking for a story and just may have egged these guys on to "make it real", "show some real force", "make the enemy want to give up".

Some force is required or we would be "French". It is right to look into this, but let's not condemn the troops before they are heard.

I must disagree.

As soon as we detain an enemy combatant, we are bound by law and honour to adhere to the Geneva Conventions in word and spirit!

Failure to do so gives our enemies (and some "allies") all the ammunition they need to discredit us and the cause for which we fight.
