I just read this on Drudge. This is the kind of thing we DON'T need right now or EVER!

Looks like the dishonorable media has finally found an aspect of the engagement that they relish reporting.
BTW, let us not allow the Republic to forget that it is REALLY all about THIS:

If they are guilty then throw the book at them. Just make it fair, no Breaker Morants or anything.

this stuff was common in the Nam and Iraq ain't no different. the unending stress from being in a combat zone and not knowing who to trust makes GIs behave like this REAL fast.

Words fail me. What kind of training does one need to know that it's not okay to beat or mistreat prisoners? Rumsfeld needs to condemn this in the harshest of terms as soon as possible.

I agree, but CBS does not need to air photos. We went there to stop this from happening, and now are acting in the same (well only a few are, you know what I mean) They deserve court martial if true, but CBS has their own agenda. They are working on making this war Vietnam, even when the facts show they are not alike at all.

The bottom line is:
Do you want the interrogators to do EVERYTHING to get info fast, which may safe the lives of dozens or hundreds of US servicement, or do you want to worry about the rights of the terrorists and the hell with our servicemen?
It's a sad commentary that our soldiers are being prosecuted.
Do you remember just recently an officer, a colonel(?), whom they were going to courtmartial because he shot a gun NEAR the prisoner and scared him into confessing info which saved many servicemen?

My theory is that they were possessed by the former demons that occupied the place...this is really bad. The pics were awful...what a blemish this puts on the Army by a few whackos...what were they thinking for crying out loud?
To: Dolphy
I served during relative peacetime (92-96) and we were very clear what was expected of us regarding treatment of enemy combatants. I know wartime can cause soldiers to do things they shouldn't, but we had it drilled into our heads the consequences should we mistreat a prisoner or fail to follow the rules of engagement.

It may have been common in Vietnam, but we all know nothing excuses it. I can understand their stress but it's their self control that is lacking.
If they are all warned they will be Court Martialed [sp?] for things like this, maybe they will not do it.

"quit whitewashing what they did"
===
Says you, sitting comfortably in your home in front of your computer.
Those soldiers are being ambushed daily by some of those people, so when they get to take them prisoner, they extract some revenge.
Why is everyone assuming that these were some peaceful Iraqi civilians that the soldiers decided to torture?

It's the kind of thing that you really want to do, but you need to be beter than the enemy. God bless those that restrain the urge to bitchslap and punish the captive enemy.
I don't know if I could do it.

These detainees, were they bomb makers or setting the IED's or building suicide vests?
Every mention of the prisoners want us to believe they were simple jaywalkers and not killers. Of course their status doesn't excuse the abusers...but I don't see the detainees talking just because they like us.

I agree with what you said and was thinking about it when I wrote my earlier post to Dolphy and gawd.
I can't be sure I'd have the self control myself if they really 'pushed' me!

They reported that wires were attached to genitals......I can see the headlines tomorrow...."KERRY WAS RIGHT". The press is going to have a field day with this one.
To: FairOpinion
Why is everyone assuming that these were some peaceful Iraqi civilians that the soldiers decided to torture? Because that's the image the Left and Rather want everyone to see. These are not wayward boys who find themselves in a bad situation.
Our soldiers are facing evil daily and if the tables were turned I'm sure the detainee would probably put a bullet in them rather than talking.

again with the whitewash. quit finding excuses for those soldiers' actions. they clearly abused iraqis, and I hope they spend time in prison for that.
