The Torricelli Option: Will Dems dump Kerry?
World Net Daily ^ | April 28, 2004 | Hugh Hewitt

Posted on 04/28/2004 5:04:09 PM PDT by luv2ski

There is palpable fear among Democrats as they contemplate their presumptive nominee, John Kerry, the candidate who couldn't keep his lies straight.

Kerry followed a week made disastrous by his military records fiasco with a Monday morning performance with Charlie Gibson of ABC's Good Morning America that will live in TV history alongside the 1980 Roger Mudd-Teddy Kennedy exchange through which it dawned on America that a senator in search of a verb wasn't really equipped to be a president.

Gibson's refusal to be deflected by Kerry's rambling incoherence led to a post-interview denunciation of ABC by Kerry. "They are doing the work of the Republican National Committee," Kerry muttered. Yeah, that's the ticket. Jennings et al., are working for the GOP which is working for Fox News' Roger Ailes who is, of course, working for Halliburton. Hillary's vast, right-wing conspiracy just got vaster. Like the Borg, the VRWC has absorbed Disney-owned ABC. Who knew?

There are powers in the Democratic Party, and they cannot be pleased. Tom Daschle, for one, has got to be thinking through the impact of a presidential contest that is over once the polls close at 6 in the East. That sort of wave in 1980 took out George McGovern and a lot of famous liberals just like Daschle.

Streisand's got to be worried as well. She knows what happens when the movie tanks in the first 10 minutes. People return her phone calls, even though she doesn't make any sense at all. Rob Reiner knows a thing or two about stiffs as well. Remember 1994's "North"? Neither does anyone else. Reiner knows that hopes and dreams do not a success make.

And the Clintons-in-Exile, they must hear the music. Forget their ethics and policies, they have a well-deserved reputation for perfect pitch when it comes to politics. Imagine Bill and Hill watching Kerry strangle himself. How they must laugh ... then cry. Hillary gets the nod in 2008, but what will be left after the wipeout?

Another movie analogy: Jim Carrey in the bathroom scene from "Liar, Liar" when he tries to injure himself. That's John Kerry over the past six weeks, throwing himself against walls in front of the national TV audience with the effect of inflicting maximum damage on himself.

It has worked.

Too well, I am afraid. Dems know he's a loser. But can anything be done?

Who knows? Don't bother looking up the rules governing nominations. There were rules in Florida, and the Florida Supreme Court tore those up when Gore needed help. There were rules in New Jersey, but when Torricelli flamed, the New Jersey Supreme Court tossed those aside. There were rules in California, and three judges ordered a halt to the recall that only went forward because the luck of an en banc draw brought sanity to the review panel.

No, the rules won't stop Kerry's recall. Only Teddy can, and the weight of the senior senator from Massachusetts shouldn't be underestimated. The Kerry campaign is his last hurrah, and the convention's in Boston, for goodness sake. What kind of a reception would follow a party that tossed Kerry onto the tracks?

Does Daschle care? Does Patty Murray? Barbara Boxer? Any of a half-dozen endangered Dem incumbents in the Senate and a score in the House? So the receiving committee is a littlie frosty and Teddy dumps them from the Christmas card list – they'll still have jobs.

And Dean – what's he thinking when he can get the voices to quiet down? He was robbed, you know ... by the same people now conspiring against Kerry. Dean doesn't forget, and there's not enough Ambien in America to get him a night's sleep. What if, with another yell, he decides to demand an open convention. "Let the delegates vote!" isn't a bad slogan. Bring back all the orange hats and the blog and all that. Quite a party could be had by all.

Bill Clinton just announced the publication date of his new memoir: Late June. How unfortunate for Kerry – Bill has to do a book tour for the month running up to the convention, sucking the air right out of an already spent balloon. Sorry, couldn't be avoided. Publisher deadlines and all.

So as Kerry melts away, there – on every television screen in the land – will be Saturday Night Bill, playing his sax, blowing his own horn, saying stuff. All sorts of stuff. Looking incredibly large, opposite the incredibly small Kerry.

Tick, tick, tick. The Torricelli Option. Coming to theaters near you this summer.

Toricelli didn't want to drop out either. But they made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Hillary has Kerry's FBI files. And if that doesn't work, there's always Arkencide.

Actually, it was Hillary who shot down Dean, and I thought at the time she miscalculated. She just wanted to knock him back a bit. She hammered away at him with article after article in the liberal press, and his numbers refused to budge. Then, all of a sudden, at the last minute all the air went out of him at once. One day he was the leader, the next day he was down there with Carol Moseley Braun. I think she accidentally overdid it. All she meant to do was broker a three-way tie going into the convention between Dean, Kerry, and Edwards. Now it's back to the drawing board. Busy, busy, busy.

Too bad this isn't the title of the book. Might describe some ex-girlfriend.

I hope you are right. My concern is that If this election close , her being VP might draw enough to push them over. If she does run then we may have big problems caz she's going to run , knowing she can win IMO. I have this uneasy feeling as we get closer to Nov. We have seen what happening around the world at election times. Let something bad happen and she may step up to the plate.

Mudd asked Ted Kennedy why he wanted to be President and Kennedy couldn't come up with an answer. Just stumbled and mumbled until it was clear he was clueless.

This is getting oh so crazy. While we hear whispers of Kerry losing credibility with his base and the Village Voice asking he drop out, he and GWB are tied in the foxnews polls and have been for several weeks. Much too early for anyone to predict he's imploding and frankly I'd rather he do it AFTER the convention.

I put forward this hypothesis over a year ago when it was still the 9 Dwarves and nobody believed it. Now these pundits are finally coming around.

Except now I don't believe it. The nation as a whole is not New Jersey, with a popular retired senator coming back as a white knight to save the state from the evil Republicans. Furthermore, Kerry is not Torricelli and won't be pushed around. He had courage once, and I think he still has enough to resist the Clintons. Even if they somehow push him out all they'll succeed in doing is throwing the party into disarray and handing the election to GWB.

I just don't see it happening now.

It's the Jersey Shuffle -- not the Torricelli Option.

At the last minute, Jacques Kerry drops out, and in comes - - - "Frankie the Fossil" Lautenberg!

(just kidding)

Yea, I think we need to point out when a post is just goofy.
The Dems aren't dumping Kerry any more than we are dumping Bush. We may see things that will cause him to lose, but the Dem base is happy he's out there bashing Bush, supporting rolling back the tax cuts, abortion and all the rest.

She won't accept the V.P. nomination.

As much as some Dims want her,at least an equal number of GOPers don't and there are Dems who HATE the Clintons and Indies too.

If something "bad",REALLY bad happens, she does NOT want to have to "handle it",should she be on a ticket. The Clintons don't care anything at all about world events. You have to take off the tinfoil and look,REALLY look at what makes the Clintons tick.Even more so than Bill,Hillary yearns to play with American INTERNAL stuff.

If, IF..you saw a huge drop in support for Bush, either something happens with the economy, like a huge drop in the DOW, or really bad news fro, Iraq..lots of US KIA, then, THEN Hillary would go for it...Kerry would step aside for whatever reason..even after the conventon, under the DNC by-laws, if a nominee withdraws, or is incapacited, or dies..then the DNC executive xcommittee meets to choose a replacement....the beautyof this, from Hilalry's point of view, is that she would escape any vetting of her positions...it's be a blitz campaign..and it could work..and FWIW, I think they have the goods to force him out if he complained..remember the story floated a while back about the "mistress" who'se now in Sfrica...well, she's probably in a safe house///...

"Not only that, there are no longer any adults in cahrge of the Democratic Party who would have the authority to do this."

BRIIIINGGG!!!

Kerry: Hello?

Voice: Hi John, good to hear ya ole boy, you know I've been hopping around so many blond...ah, I mean countries, and soon I'll be selling my book, I haven't been paying attention til now, and well, I saw when I came back you need some advice.

Kerry: Well, Mr. President, I actually wanted your advice AFTER I decided I did not need it....

Voice: Don't eh, don't worry about it John, don;t worry about it - now John, look, I gotta be frank here John - your campaign is like a barrel of rotten tomatoes, like we used to say in Hot Springs...frankly, I didn;t want to tell you this John, but - it stinks, frankly.

Kerry: That is because of that effin' vast-right-wing conspiracy your thunder-thighing half pointed out..

Voice: Oooh, John, don;t say that, it makes me shudder..but, since you're on the subject, john, let's cut to the chase...John, the bookies are laying me 7-1 you'll crash and burn come November - I didn;t want to have to tell ya this, I like you John, but you know, you got to think of the party sometime..

Kerry: I always think of the party - even when I was in Viet nam I thought of the party. Why, I used to tell my boat crew that -

Voice: OK OK John, its me now, y'all don;t need to feed me that b..

Kerry: What?

Voice: John, I got an offer here you - well, you don;t want to refuse - I mean, John, you know, there are people who want to send the video of you throwing your medals to FoxNews, you know, and then there is that grainy video of you and Jane after the Winter Soldier project - not to mention the pictures of you eating caviar from Tereza's - well you know what I mean john, frankly,I tried to keep em off, but you know John, you got to do something for me or - well I don;t know that I'll be able to hold them back..

Kerry: Yes Mr President?

Voice: Well, you remember Bob Toricelli - yeah, he was going to jail and was gonna lose that seat til I talked to him, and I told him, you can cry, you can deny, but you got to go - then Mr. Riyadi will fix you up, and well, you know - he didn;t do jail, and now he's rolling in it - of course you got all the dough you need John, but for me to be able to save you, you got to do something for me, a little something, OK?

Kerry: Yes. Anything.

Voice: Well, if you want to get to the convention John, you got to pick a VP, right? Now I know you're gettng advice, but trust me John, if you want to get to November you need to play ball with me here - you know, many people are sayin' that Hitlary should replace you on the ticket - they're wrong, its the wrong year - but they insist; So I got to thinkin' and I found a solution;

Kerry: What is that?

Voice: Well, you pick the bi- er, I mean the Senator from New York to help you solidify your base and beat Bush in November - I gotta tell ya John, I think its your only chance to get to November, know what I mean.

Kerry: I'll do anything to keep those videos private..

Voice: Well, its your decision John, I didn;t want to pressure you, I am so glad you came to the same conclusion by yourself; and OBTW, you'll have to take Harold (Ickes) and Sid (Vicious) to help you lose - uh, I mean, to help you RUN your campaign...you knwo John, I really don't think it is too late to pull the ship back up, you know?

Kerry (obtusely): Thank you Mr. President.

Voice: You're welcome....now honey, yeah, I like those eyes, yeah come over here to Poppa....er john - you still there - well, bye!!

THE ABOVE SCENARIO MAY BE FUNNY - BUT IT MIGHT BE THE WAY FOR KERRY TO SURVIVE - if The Rapist and his enabler calculate that this year is a dead sure loser, they may create the above scenario to get Hitlary's ankles wet in the campaign, the better to springboard her to front runner status and Senate reelection, with an eye to 2008. Kerry is weak, and The Rapist will use this opportunity.

You heard it here first.

Mudd asked Dunkin' Teddy exactly why it was he wanted to be President.

He hemmed and hawed and had no real answer ... looking like the dork he is on national TV, and he couldn't swim his way out the jam.

Step away from the computer and begin to remove the vast number of layers of tinfoil, which you've swathed your head and body with.

They could cover up Vince's death, when they were in Ark.,they could cover up anything and EVERYTHING they did.The death of the Dem's presumptive presidential candidate, not to mention Terry H.Kerry and HER money, completely and utterly rules your scenario out.

You can't GIVE someone prostate cancer and Rudy's now ex-wife hated him and was a Clintonista to boot.

John Kennedy Jr. was a damned HOT DOG,responsible for that plane crash, and YOU wear so much tinfoil, that it's a wonder you can breathe through that complete head to toe coverage.
