BAGHDAD, Iraq  — Just one day after U.S. officials announced that a fragile cease-fire in the Fallujah was being extended, Marines were engaged Monday in an intense firefight with insurgents in a northern district of the besieged city.

One soldier has been killed so far and eight more have been injured in the Fallujah fighting, officials from the U.S. coalition said Monday. Also, two Marines died and five more were injured injured Monday when a blast leveled part of a warehouse in northern Baghdad  as U.S. troops were raiding it, officials said. All these ceasefires aren't working.

It could get ugly.

Hopefully, the White House (Bush and Co) will let the Marines finish the war this time. Until the 'insurgents' are sent to their 72 white raisins, things won't get much better. There can't be a political/diplomatic settlement until AFTER the war is won.

AP update, excerpts now automatic for FoxNews articles at FR.

This article claims we lost 2 Marines, not Soldiers in the Baghdad building explosion, and so far we've lost a Soldier, 8 more wounded in fighting in Fallujah.

According to FN reporter, Steve Harrigan, the Fallujah casualties are Marines, and the Baghdad explosion casualties were Soldiers, makes more sense than the AP report.

Waiting for confirmation - and a more respectful, accurate account from the DoD.

Don't know. But aren't explosions caused by the rapid oxidation of chemicals and could be classified as a "chemical munition"?

The firefight began Monday morning after a Marine platoon left their small base and moved 200 yards away to occupy two small houses. Enemy forces opened up with barrage of rockets, mortar and automatic weapons.

Sounds like somebody decided to use this platoon to test the "cease fire".

My first thought was that they had bad information from an informant which led them into a trap.

I wonder if there even is a ceasefire, other then at the press conferences. What would the battle look like?

The Arab street only understand force, especially brutal force.

We can't win Iraqi hearts and minds with ceasefires; we need overwhelming fire power against Fallujah and other rebellious towns.

I don't support the current pussyfooting around Fallujah; how many booby traps have been sent during the "ceasefire" where our troops kept dying?

As a Marine said a couple of weeks ago, "We either fight them now, or we fight them later." Later is much more costly.

We lost 11 brave troops last week, over 21 wounded...and counting.

Roughly 134,968 of their fellow American troops completed their missions across a nation the size of California last week - took enemies off the streets, trained Iraqi security forces, and defended the oppressed - along with over 20,000 Coalition allies, and 200,000 or so Iraqi security workers.

Not bad for a week's work, our troops saving civilization.

In spite of our free press.

.

According to, of all people, CNN...

FALLUJAH is Iraq's bad guys' Last Stand.

HILLARY is calling again for more troops in Iraq.

Is HILLARY really on our side in Time of War..?

HILLARY certainly wasn't during the Vietnam War.

Gee, just ask what the Israelis get when the agree to a cease-fire with these animals. This decision was idiotic at best. A jihadist only knows one law: FORCE.

Sounds like it failed the test. I guess now they'll have to call another cease fire.

Hillary wants more troops becuase she thinks that hurts W. She also has called for the draft, thinking it would stain the president.
