Discussion Thread: Kerry's Appearance on GMA Regarding Medals
Good Morning America - ABC News

Posted on 04/26/2004 5:09:02 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Let's see if I can kick this off.

During the promo at the beginning of the show, where he was standing by live in West Virginia, and throughout the interview itself, Kerry tried hard to keep this huge "what me worry?" smile plastered on his face. He coupled it with numerous condescending head shakes that seemed to imply "these poor benighted fools who so miserably misunderstand the greatness that is John Kerry."

I've been saying it since before Dubya was elected and wish I would have finished my novel. I had her sitting back working on blackmail behind the scenes. She did not have to run in the primaries. She did not have to spend any money. There would be no soundbites of other RATS attacking her. At the last minute she would step in. It is the perfect Hillary storm, and we may be seeing it unfolding.

I was trying to post a photo of JFinK giving his testimony before congress in 1971. In the photo, he is wearing his ribbons with a utility uniform shirt.

I think that shirt, with the ribbons, was his fashion statement of choice during his protest days.

But the issue is not so cut and dried. A television interview Mr. Kerry gave in November 1971 shows that Mr. Kerry himself fed the confusion from early on. The New York Times obtained a videotape of the interview late last week.

The interview was shown on the Washington television station WRC, archived by President Richard M. Nixon's communications office and held by the National Archives.

Hmmm. Interesting the Slimes did this, even though it was the Saturday edition. Either the Press is running low-level stuff (and I don't count GMA's performance today as low-level, but if it goes no further, then what will it matter?) but anyway, the press running low level stuff in order to say later, "we've already covered that".

Or, Kerry is French toast as others have said.

Again, I don't think you can purchase the actual medal. If medals could be purchased, he would have sent some flunky down to the nearest Navy base and bought a whole bag of 'em.

Maybe you couldn't back then, but you can now buy them on line at:

http://www.usmedals.com/medals.html?s=navy&p=vietnam

This site has medals from all of the services and wars. It doesn't look like you can buy a Medal of Honor though - it's probably against the law.

All we need now is an explanation why John Lehman (SECNAV 1981-87) signed his Bronze and Silver Star citations at least 12 years after Kerry left Vietnam. The most logical explanation is that Kerry indeed did throw away his medals and sought replacements.

You do NOT where your medals with civilian clothes!

With one exception I am familiar with, that is wearing of the Purple Heart as a lapel pin on a suit. Have seen this on one or two occasions. One of the military analysts on Fox, a retired army Captain, name escapes me, wears his PH on a lapel. When worn in this manner, it is a miniature medallion only, not suspended from a ribbon.

I think even we anti al Querry conservatives may be amazed if and when the real story of al Querry post Nam comes out.

al Querry like so many of the left wing lunatics, his age and in power today, got by with some incredible anti America behavior/actions in the 1960/70's. Then, they used that strident anti America behavior to build their political careers. It is a vital part to them.

When that behavior is dragged out in front of the 20 to 40 something age moderates and the new conservatives since 9/11, they will condemn him for his actions then and since then.

al Querry like most of the rats his age in political, built their political image on hate America actions disguised as great protests. Now that is only popular with the hard core lunatics, and their core is decreasing.

Maybe you couldn't back then, but you can now buy them on line at:

You might be able to buy the medals all day long, but you won't have the Certificate and orders that say you were awarded the medals.

OR you can do like some people and just photocopy and put your name on it.

I noted the interview in the early years with Kerry,,did anyone note the strange fake accent which he has since ditched. He sounded like Littlle Lord Fauntleroy.

Whoa. The 9-11 Commission's John Lehman?! Wow, I hadn't heard that before. Isn't that an interesting little co-inkydink.

Long thread here.

There are some suggestions proffered of why this would be that would be on the up and up, but it is a question that could be put to Kerry, though of course he would decry anyone daring to do so.

Yes, I did notice that. Kind of a snot-nosed, preppy, JFK wanna-be tone, with a soupcon of Left Bank existential intellectual thrown in!

Kerry said you get a "tiny ribbon" to wear with our civilian clothes ...(They DO wear medals on civilian clothes that way in the Soviet Union.... Maybe he is just confused about which military he served under.)

Kerry is correct on this one. LBJ used to wear his bogus silver star minature ribbon in his lapel.

"For most of his life as a politician, Johnson proudly wore a Silver Star pin identifying him as a war hero. The small lapel pin can be seen in the famous photograph of Johnson taking the oath of office aboard Air Force One following John F. Kennedy's assassination in November 1963. For three decades, on occasions mundane and momentous, the small red, white and blue badge of courage was often visible on Johnson's suit coat.

"He wore the Silver Star in his lapel all his life, up to and through the presidency," said Robert Caro, a historian and Johnson biographer. "When he was campaigning in Texas and he wanted to draw people's attention to it, he would actually do this (with his lapel) when he was giving a speech," said Caro, demonstrating how Johnson would grab his lapel with the Silver Star and flap it.
