Letter to the American Bishops
Our Computer | 4/25/04 | Mrs. don-o

Posted on 04/25/2004 7:40:16 AM PDT by don-o

Dear Bishop,

As you know, last year Senator John Kerry voted to support the Herod-like crime of Partial-Birth Abortion as a legal practice in this country. Unrepentant, he later profaned the Blessed Sacrament at Easter at the Paulist Center in Boston, and then accepted a standing ovation from the congregation at the conclusion of Mass.

You know that the Holy Scriptures teach that God "hates" the deliberate shedding of innocent blood (and no exceptions mentioned, whether it's done by abortion, a bomb, or a baseball bat.)

You know that the Second Vatican Council denounced abortion and infanticide as "abominable crimes."

You know that Canon Law provides for excommunication for procuring an abortion. Bishop Elio Sgreccia, the Vice-President of the Pontifical Academy on Life, a Vatican spokesman on bioethics, holds that politicians who vote for legalized abortion are subject to the canonical penalties for accomplices.

And you Bishops know very well that to receive the Blessed Sacrament unworthily, is to receive it "unto condemnation." To multiply such reception is to multiply the sin of sacrilege.

In any case there is Canon 915: "Those upon whom the penalty of excommunication or interdict has been imposed or declared, and others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin, are not to be admitted to Holy Communion."

"Are not to be admitted." How many ways are there to interpret that?

By failing to provide any effective discipline in the case of Catholic politicians who publicly and aggressively promote abominable crimes, the U.S. Catholic Bishops prove that the whole edifice of Bishops' Committees --- and Pastoral Letters --- and Position Papers -- and Banquet Speeches --- and Lip-service to doctrine, line upon line, precept upon precept --- have as their final significance: absolutely nothing.

Bishop _________, there's a reason why Bishops carry the crozier. It's because as "shepherds," you are "armed" with authority to protect the flock and dismay the wolves --- and not the other way around.

But after 30 years of legal slaughter, after over 40 million deaths, you have allowed the Catholic accomplice s to receive the Body of the Lord unrepentant, thus multiplying in their own souls the burden of sacrilege. Aren't you Shepherds to care for people's souls --- even the souls of politicians?

You have delayed the necessary corrective action for decades; for an entire generation; and now you delay again, til your Committee makes a decision, til your Subcommittee issues a statement; til after the next election.

Do you care more about the next election than about the next generation?

It is more likely that a Catholic will be refused Communion for kneeling (when the pastor wishes him to stand) than for authorizing the bloody dismemberment of a helpless child.

For my entire adult life --- and I am 52 years old --- my Sacred Pastors have been dismaying the flock and protecting the wolves.

What will the Good Shepherd say to you, when He returns?

In the name of our dear and suffering Christ,

One of my co-workers is in his parish - I'll ask her which one it is....

(later) She goes to Blessed Sacrament, and Jim Moran is there frequently, but she doesn't know if he's actually registered there, and she says he goes around to the other parishes too. She also told me that one of the priests at Blessed Sacrament got into a pushing match with him over his voting record. The priest was transferred soon after.

Pro Choice = Pro Abortion

Why do we allow the Enemy (Liberals) to control the terms of the discussion? I am actively ANTI-Political Correctness. Politically correct speech is thought control. Liberals “Choose” the words and what they will mean, this corrupts the English language to the point we are left arguing what “is” is. I personally make it a point when discussing politics with a leftist to call a rock a rock, and translate whenever they try to hide behind “nice” sounding words. Please do not give them the Phyrric victory of using the terms they set for the discussion of this important topic. Thanks </Rant>

=== I think it's time Catholics moved their public protests to the front lawns of their own bishops.

Hear hear.

Here in the Spokane Diocese of Eastern Washington, we have this 10 million dollar drive going on for a new seminary, and I can attest to the fact that many that I know will not give, coming so close to all the payoffs of those children hurt by priests in the past.

.. I feel that it may just be a slush fund for the payoffs without we Catholic laity being offended.

its a hard decision, but someone wrote somewhere that a poorer church is not necessarily a bad thing...

Kerry's and Kennedy's choice to remain "Catholic" is for the public consumption and political aspirations only.....

viability and all that...

Kudos to your wife for fighting the good fight.
I seem to be suffering from Katholisch weldschmerz lately, and I think the American Bishops and their complicity in evil is part of my problem.
If only I could trade my weldschmerz for Stockholm Syndrome.

Excellent, Don-O.

Get Mrs. Don-O on here with her own FR screen name, she's got great Catholic Caucus potential ;-)

Quite an impressive letter. Your wife's writing style is direct and to the point. Her letter, jam packed with excellent arguments, is thought provoking and yet comparatively brief. At the very least, it will definitely give the bishops pause for thought.

In behalf if Mrs don-o, I say go for it. She has mailed to all the bishops, but feel free to use some of her ideas to write your own.

(A straight copy might have less impact.)
