Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser is an American patriot. He is also a Muslim. And he is trying very hard to prove to his fellow Americans that these two central features of his life are as compatible as they are self-reinforcing. In fact, Dr. Jasser, who is a Phoenix physician, is trying so hard that he has taken it upon himself and his organization, the American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD), to stage a rally tomorrow in downtown Phoenix. Appropriately, it will be held at Patriots Square Park.

Are you aware that Hamas and Hezbollah and other terrorist groups are here in the U.S.? Ever watch the Godfather or any other mafia movies? You know what happens to people who open their mouths? And their families? Same thing with these people. Except worse. They'll threaten your family living anywhere in the world.
That's why we shouldn't pick apart and negate the statements made by those brave enough to speak out in public. If you want to encourage More to speak out, then support those who do.

And that's why when a muslim dares to speak out against radicals and fanatics in their religion, we need to Support them, and applaud them for doing so. And ENCOURAGE Others. Not make nasty, negative comments about them.

Perhaps, but most muslims are waiting on the sidelines to see who will win. (Remember the joke, "What you mean WE Kemo Sabe?") What is really needed is for muslims to support this position and back it up with support for the war in Iraq. If you are going to be against terrorism, you need to go all out against it, this is why Kerry's half hearted attempt to be against terror is going to fall on deaf ears in the electorate.

Don't forget that a speach such as this could also be good cover for terror activities. Find out where they really stand by looking at their actions. Holding a rally is a good action, raising money for the war effort is better, urging muslims to vote for Bush is a good idea, at what point will this fine example stop?

I think you're asking for a lot all at once from people who are afraid to say anything. How 'bout we give them a chance? After all, they hold the key. They are the ones that can make changes within their religion, not us.

I know it is a personal faith for some but for many it's just being part of a collective mind set. I've been told by some American Muslims there are many mosques in the U.S. they wouldn't set foot in.

There are mosques that were founded by and are oriented towards Turks, Syrians, Egyptians, etc., and a member of one ethnic group will not attend another ethnic group's mosque.

You are of course right, If they want to change the religion. But I believe they are waiting to see if the radical part of their religion will end up winning big gains from the west. (Like when we give in and agree to all they want.) All I can see that will prevent this is for the radical islam to suffer huge losses at our hands.

As for giving them a chance, what does that mean? We have given them 800 of our peoples lives. (Not counting those they took from civilians). You don't expect us to continue to wait do you? Its a momentum game. Look at Fallujah where we are at cease fire and they are reinforcing, this is not the kind of chance they need.

The thread was about muslims speaking out against terrorism and how their religion can co-exist within a democracy. Specifically in this country. I support and condone what this man seems to be trying to accomplish.
As for muslims in Iraq, that's a another can of worms.

We need to win the war on terrorism in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Indonesia, the Phillipines, wherever. And the sooner the better.

Only one of these faiths teaches that Heaven is a place where, after a 'righteous' life, you get to have wonton, drunken sex with 72 virgins.

Think about it:  if you knew someone who's stated goal in life was to have sex with 72 virgin girls, how much time would you spend with him?  Exactly how much would he contribute to your intellectual development?  

His entire mindset would be about developing the perfect method for manipulating young women into bed.

Frankly, I'll be perfectly honest here, I'd consider someone like that an asshole who wasn't worthy of my time.

And I'd be correct.

Now, not all Islam is bad: Sufist writing is quite beautiful and insightful.  Nor would I consider all Muslims "bad" -- but let's be truthful: perhaps, even in the worst cancer, there's a few cancer cells that aren't actually doing any damage.  Maybe they're just sitting there while all their brethren do the damage to the body they're destroying.

But they're still cancer cells.  And they aren't helping.

Islam is nothing more and nothing less than a religious cancer.

I'm an agnostic who'd follow a Christian, I'd follow a Jew, I've met a few Buddhists I'd follow and a Taoist or two.

But I've never met a Muslim who I'd trust and follow.  Never.
