This whole flip flop theme that Rove has orchestrated is quintessentially brilliant. Kerry can't move to the center from his extreme left wing positions or it gets jumped on as the latest of his flip flops.
Brilliant.

Maybe eventually Kerry will flipflop on flipflopping, and then he will never be able to flipflop again. Oh wait, he could flipflop on flipflopping on flipflopping. That would make him a human violation of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.
Only problem with is that he sucks all of the energy out of anything he touches....

This could be an attempt to move closer to McCain's position on abortion for a possible McCain VP offer.

But the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal: Kerry claimed in an interview he was "opposed to abortion."
Kerry told the LOWELL SUN in October, 1972: "I would say also that it's a tragic day in the lives of everybody when abortion is looked on as an alternative to birth control or as an alternative to having a child. I think that's wrong. It should be the very last thing if it has to be anything, and I say that not just because I'm opposed to abortion but because I think that's common sense."
Kerry declared: "I think the question of abortion is one that should be left for the states to decide."
In 1975, SUN reporter John Mullins outlined how Kerry believed there were larger issues than abortion including "how to put people back to work, how to reduce crime and how to keep institutions from breaking down."
"'I think liberals spend too much time pushing issues which just aren't relevant to the mass of people,' Kerry said, including among such issues abortion, the death penalty and amnesty."

The state's rights position is NOT, I repeat NOT, a pro-life position, b/c we'd end up with legal abortion in some states.
However, we'd best reconnoiter here how this Kerry flip will affect Bush's pro-life vote.
Kerry has obviously concluded he needs the Catholic vote, so he is mushing out on his radical pro-abortion views (and votes). He has a 100% voting rating from the pro-aborts.
This fliperoo might well siphon off some Catholic votes from Bush.
It will now force Bush to spend money on pro-life ads. Could be part of Kerry's long-term strategy.
In the last analysis, Kerry will never do anything to protect the unborn.

"It will now force Bush to spend money on pro-life ads. Could be part of Kerry's long-term strategy."No, dear. Drudge is simply playing up something that JFK said way back in the early 1970's as if it was a present-day flip-flop.

Yes, I believe Ted Kennedy was anti-abortion back in the early 70s, too (along with how many other Dems?).
