April 22, 2004 -- A Florida-based arms company is at the center of the international probe into a New York-bound ship seized in Italy while laden with thousands of Kalashnikov assault rifles, The Post has learned.

The AK-47s were apparently bound for Vermont.

"Cartridges that can hold up to 30 rounds? Who hired this genius?"
Hes obviously not a gun fanatic, besides to the normal person there isnt much diff between clip mag and cartridge.

"Tampered with? How about legally manufactured that way. Sounds like a shipment of Romanian WASR or SAR semi-automatic rifles which are perfectly legal for sale in the United States."

Yes except they werent, these were ak 47's that they do not manufacture. True enough tho.

"AK-47s also have been the weapon of choice for some infamous military-minded wackos, such as the teens who shot up Columbine HS in Littleton, Colo., in 1999"

hahaha this is where he sounds stupid, tru enough they didnt use ak's, and were they military minded? I thought they were just angry teenagers who couldnt take no more... not really military minded. That reminds me of SWAT, the bit where they try to spring the terrorist guy from the bus, and after the captain said they came under fire from automatic ak47's when all they used was a silenced pistol and a small submachine gun

AWB renewal hysteria in the making?

I suspect that's where they are trying to take this. Already a number of states are harping on the need for further state-level AW bans. Some details scattered among the links here:

A possible scenario. Just north of VT is the looneytoon city of Montreal, home of many Islamic fanatics. Importing guns through the border is tough. Prepositioned guns makes sense for combat teams with a mission. The ATF and FBI must be all over this case like white on rice.

There are lots of villages there. Each one is in need of an idiot. Makes for an interesting place.

The startling seizure prompted Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Nassau) to call for a renewal of the 1994 federal ban on assault weapons, which is slated to expire Sept. 13.

Like that would've stopped the shipment....

I'm guessing that these are for Vermont's impending secession from Canada!

Anybody remember that during the rapist/scum bag/perjuror's administration the 2,000 or so AK-47 (FULLY AUTOMATIC) that were confiscated in Los Angeles that one of bubba's chicom buddies was trying to smuggle in for LA street gangs?

Exactly- it's just a ruse to push her agenda a little further.

BTW, just an offhand comment from me? This article is sprinkled with the usual half-truths, distorsions, and fear-pandering we have all come to know, love, and expect from the mainstram press. I am a trained shooter- if ( and that is the big if ) I were so inclined, I could take a common skeet or trap gun and a haversack of shells, and do more damage to a crowd of people than a slob with a machine gun could. They convieniently don't mention such a fact, since they are trying to instill a fear of scary-looking guns.

"We know al Qaeda training manuals have encouraged terrorists to obtain assault weapons in the United States," she said.

Exactly how is a "law" supposed to prevent Al Qaeda from obtaining assault weapons?

Personally I find this very troubling. It is yet another sign that AlQuida wants war on our soil. If this cache was caught, how many have slipped thru? We need to start profiling and weeding out potential terror cells here at home, and soon!

Maybe the government should keep an eye on the Mosques!

That's what they'll go after next.....incrimentalism is their game.

Absolutely right- the "assault shotgun" ( pump or semi-auto ) will be right in line with Sniper's Rifles ( your telescope-sighted deer rifle ) for banning or further "common-sense regulations..."

What are you talking about? The article makes no reference to Colorado or to rounds. Are you making things up? I couldn't find any of this on the Post's site.

Must be a lot of deer & bear hunters in VT - just looking for an 'edge'. AK 47s are much better for deer hunting than just plain-jane rifles, dont'cha know.

We know al Qaeda training manuals have encouraged terrorists to obtain assault weapons in the United States

Bull! Why pay 400 bucks here in the US when you can get them for 10 bucks in the Middle East? Yet, another scare tactic of the left. This has NEVER been proven. Some would mention the man at the Texas gun show who supposedly had terrorist ties (never proven) who tried to purchase a gun and was arrested & convicted & thrown in jail. Hardly a successful outing.

Let's take the inverse stand ... if the criminals are going to illegally arm themselves with assault rifle style weapons, then we should be able to match force with equal firepower.

Not only do I agree, let's take it further- I understand that in times past Israeli citizens could check UZIs out of their arsenals when things got dicey- I'd love to see the same thing here. Peace through superior firepower.
