Three Palestinian militants were shot and killed by Israel Defense Forces soldiers near the West Bank city of Tul Karm early on Thursday.
The three men were said to be carrying Kalashnikov assault rifles.
No IDF soldiers were injured in the incident.
According to the report, the three militants were senior Tanzim officials and were on the IDF's wanted list.
They were identified as Bilal Abu-Amshe, the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades leader in Tul Karm, Haitam Barame and Ghanem Ghanem.
The army says that the latter two were involved in planning and carrying out the April 3 terror attack on the settlement of Avnei Hefetz in which Kobi Zaga was killed and his teenage daughter was injured.
The IDF patrol encountered the three men in an open field between the West Bank city and the nearby Nur a-Shams refugee camp.
In the Gaza Strip, nine Palestinians, five of them armed militants, were killed Wednesday and at least 40 were wounded as Israeli tanks and infantry forces, backed by helicopter gunships, raided the towns of Beit Lahia and Beit Hanun for a second day.
The IDF operation came on the heels of several Qassam rocket and mortar attacks which targeted towns and kibbutzim in the Negev and Israeli settlements in the northern Gaza Strip.

(IsraelNN.com) An armys Egoz unit operating in Tul Karem encountered armed terrorist and fired at them as was reported earlier. The gunmen, which included the Tul Karem Tanzim leader, were killed by the IDF fire.
An IDF report indicates two of them were connected to the 3 April 2004 terror attack in the northern Shomron community of Avnei Hafetz that claimed the life of Yaakov (Kobi) Zagha, 40.

"...the three militants were senior Tanzim officials..."
Senior leadership on a three man raid. Their ranks have been depleted too, then. It isn't just their leaders who have been taken out.

I think everytime one of those black hooded rally's with shoulder arms and mortars displayed should have a daisy cutter dropped on them.
It is only a matter of time before they attempt to use them. Now that is real pre-emption

"I think everytime one of those black hooded rally's with shoulder arms and mortars displayed should have a daisy cutter dropped on them."Napalm would work as well. Don't call the tune if you can't pay the piper.

Does this count as three seperate and distict reprisal attacks , or only one?
How many has there been since they declared 100 seperate and distict attacks?
Who is keeping track?
We need some kind of a counter to help us keep up.

Sounds like orders to produce a raid asap or else. Desperation in the ranks.

I can't think of another reason, unless it was rampant paranoia causing them to run from a position they thought was compromised, and subject to imminent helicopter attack.

Exactly. Probably heard the choppers outside coming by too often, and got skeered out. IDF "recon by helicopter." The sight of other leaders blown up by rockets must be fresh on their minds.

"I think everytime one of those black hooded rally's with shoulder arms and mortars displayed should have a daisy cutter dropped on them." Napalm would work as well. Don't call the tune if you can't pay the piper.
Not really. Napalm, jelled gasoline, was an obvious weapon in the days when gasoline was a common fuel, even as late as the Vietnam war for M151 jeeps and ¾-ton trucks and generators, if mostly out of use as an aviation fuel.
But now almost everything runs on harder to ignite and therefore safer JP7 kerosene or Diesel Fuel. With gasoline less available for filling weapons canisters, a little different arrangement is used. JP7 jet fuel, especially that contaminated with water, is mixed with used motor oil, and jellied styrofoan, dissolved in methylene chloride, to which a burster and igniter charge of white phosphorous mixed with aluminum and magnesium powder is added. And when it lights up, Diesel/jet fuel burns much hotter and slower than gasoline- an improvement.
So the next time you hear that the US has destroyed their stocks of napalm and doesn't use it any more, you can believe it, but not resulting from any concerns about humanitarianism, just the practicality resulting from the change in common fuel available. But if you ask about Frantan, the name for the jelled jet fuel incendiary developed during the Rhodesian war for counterterrorist operations, you might get a more interesting answer.
