A holy war of sorts is heating up in a Detroit suburb, where members of the local Muslim community want loudspeakers on mosques to announce the Islamic call to prayer five times each day.
But the idea is running into opposition from other residents of Hamtramck, Mich., many of whom are Christian, who think the prayer calls as early as 6 a.m. and as late as 10 p.m. would be disruptive.
"When you call to prayer, you are proselytizing, and as a citizen of the United States I don't want to hear it," Bob Golen, 68, told the Detroit Free Press.
"It is not my God. My God is Jesus Christ," Caroline Zarski, 81, said. "I don't want this noise invading my home at 10 p.m."
The Al-Islah Islamic Center asked the city three months ago to alter its noise ordinance to allow the calls to prayer. In February, the council reportedly supported the change but sought a public hearing before making any change.
"We don't want to make it a big deal," said businessman Abdul Algazali, according to the Free Press. "It's a low-pitched voice. It's not going to wake up anybody."

I'm trying to open his eyes, and I will. The Koran is online, y'know. Just do a quick Google search, you'll find it.

Replace "Allah/Mohammed" with "God/Jesus" and you're not far from your average Christian prayer.
The trouble being that "Allah" is meant to displace the God of the bible. This is "context" (you were a great noticer of "context" a few posts back). All things ARE NOT equal. Mohammad or Muhummad or whoeverthehell is a false prophet. The "religion" he started is intolerant and violence loving and has nothing of Heaven or the Divine about it at all that I can see. It does not elevate or inspire as Christianity does. You need only look at the condition and world of the VAST majority of it's loyal adherents. Again: this is "context"
Your simplistic conclusions flow from the idea that ALL things are equal. They are not.

...there's a certain level of religious-based hatred in this particular thread that doesn't quite equate to Christian thinking... Looks more like revulsion than hatred. This'll be an interesting case to watch; the ACLU could end up arguing both sides of it!
We'll see how this progresses, but in the past, the plague of political correctness has carried an impetus to shift our society toward secular "humanism" while mocking and ridiculing Christianity. More recently, PC thought has embraced Islam. That is seemingly in contradiction with the previous stance - except possibly if the people responsible for promulgating such attitudes see Islam as a tool that they can use against the Judeo-Christian status quo.
Perhaps the idea is for the religions to clash and in doing so, weaken each other to a point where a true secular state can replace the "old mythology". If so, that would certainly explain the shivers of alarm that Mel Gibson recently sent through the media. Yes, this'll be interesting indeed.

Fully happy, smart, stable people do not convert to religions.
This is wuthout a doubt the stupidist, most unsupportable thing I have ever heard in my entire life. Crack a history book, genius. If you're not a muslim you're a Commie. Thanks for my laugh of the day.

LOL! You got me! But hey - I got your back in that fight, my friend.
"I hope you don't think the Muslim threat is insignificant."
I don't think it's significant until they're able to elect officials to Congress. Without that ability, they can't make any real Effect on this nation.

We will stand together, my friend. If they put me in a coffin, I intend it to be on a massive mound of mouldering muslims.

Well, 9/11 was pretty significant, at least to those who lost loved ones in those towers. It felt pretty significant to me. Remember that Islam is the fastest growing religion in America right now. And our birth rate is terribly low and theirs very high. We are aborting and contracepting ourselves into oblivion, while they breed like rats. In 1991, for just one telling instance, 75% of all births in Sweeden was to Muslims.
They're-a-commin', my friend. Be ready.

"Be honest. Christianity is NOT a threat to you at all. Islam IS."
Neither of them have ever been a threat. It's their followers who do the threatening. Islam sucks IMO because so many ignorant people follow it 'religiously'. If people so-fervently enforced certain provisions of the Old Testament, I'd feel threatened often. But the Judeo-Christian civilization went through reformation to keep up with the progress of civilization, much of which no longer condemns women to solitude during menstruation, contrary to Old Testament advisements.
Because of this, I'll readily admit that the fact that Islam is so widespread and still accepted as a valid faith in the 21st century is a scary thought. But I don't really feel 'threatened' by it, more like 'wary', in the sense that a loaded gun is wary.

"Crosman 760? Yikes, that brings back memories. "
My favorite childhood weapon! Death to many crows and squirrels...

I love irony!

WRONG-O antirepublicrat. Correct translation = It's OUR Christian-founded country, and we'll keep it that way. YOU want different? Go back home.

True, but America recovered quickly and the long-term effect of this has, so far, been more damaging to Islam (IMO)
"And our birth rate is terribly low and theirs very high. We are aborting and contracepting ourselves into oblivion, while they breed like rats. In 1991, for just one telling instance, 75% of all births in Sweeden was to Muslims."
Is there a solution for this? No Islamic immigration allowed? Make the practice of Islam illegal in the USA? It's a tough question with a tougher answer. I don't see the Islamic pop. in this country with enough electoral power to make any real difference, so the uprising would have to be violent and with no military...well, that'd get ugly.
"Be ready."
and prepared.

You see, WHY should a christian be FORCED to listen to muslime prayer calls? For the same reason that atheists are forced to listen to Christian prayers in public schools. This country gives you freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. Learn to live with it, as the atheists in our public schools must do.
