A holy war of sorts is heating up in a Detroit suburb, where members of the local Muslim community want loudspeakers on mosques to announce the Islamic call to prayer five times each day.
But the idea is running into opposition from other residents of Hamtramck, Mich., many of whom are Christian, who think the prayer calls as early as 6 a.m. and as late as 10 p.m. would be disruptive.
"When you call to prayer, you are proselytizing, and as a citizen of the United States I don't want to hear it," Bob Golen, 68, told the Detroit Free Press.
"It is not my God. My God is Jesus Christ," Caroline Zarski, 81, said. "I don't want this noise invading my home at 10 p.m."
The Al-Islah Islamic Center asked the city three months ago to alter its noise ordinance to allow the calls to prayer. In February, the council reportedly supported the change but sought a public hearing before making any change.
"We don't want to make it a big deal," said businessman Abdul Algazali, according to the Free Press. "It's a low-pitched voice. It's not going to wake up anybody."

"Check out Matthew:"
I've covered that passage a few times in my reading. Christ was giving the disciples the general pattern of prayer, not encouraging them to specifically recite that prayer. This is how unlearned individuals misinterpret Scripture. They read a passage, but without understanding the background and context of the setting, will generally not understand the intent of the author.

if antiRepublicrat is erroneous in his assertions, you should be able to reasonably, logically, and civilly refute them.
Without resorting to DU tactics like insulting ("talking out of his @ss") or using LARGE BOLD WORDS.
Your posting actions are those of the desparate and beaten.

Who, President Bush? He seems to still think "Islam is a religion of peace", even as our troops continue to kill its followers.

Detroit is going to let these guys install a system to start calling islamists to prayer at 5:AM? Are they nuts?
We can't even put a church in Mecca, or Medina to cater to our Christian community and they are going to do this in Detroit??? Where's Henry Ford and his people?

I say, go ahead. Let them blare out their call to prayer.
The newsies will cover the story, and then everyone in the US will get an introduction to what we're up against if we don't defeat the islamists. Especially women; the diving force of the islamist movement has been a backlash against changes demanded by women living in islamic countries -- women who, thanks to satellite television, have seen the freedoms of their western sisters.
The Call to Prayer could be done just as easily with a low power radio station (the FCC has a license category just for this sort of thing). As for Christian church bells, frankly, they're not heard very often precisely because the padres understand that people are irritated by too much of a good thing, and even a pleasant sound constantly repeated becomes annoying.
It's about time this country woke up and smelled the falafel at the door.

Pleased with what? mankind's inability or unwillingness to live together in peace? You need to find your soul, my man!"
Sorry - I left off the [sarcasm] tags....I was NOT being serious, but there's a certain level of religious-based hatred in this particular thread that doesn't quite equate to Christian thinking...

And I will be right next to you, even if it IS a redundancy you fight against.
I hope you don't think the Muslim threat is insignificant.

"So you morally equate the U.S.A. and its allies to the civilian murdering terrorists. Where do you live. It cannot be in the civilized world."
Only a small fraction of those 35,000+ Islamic victims of the War on Terror were actual terrorists. There have been thousands of innocent lives taken in this WoT.
They are human beings. Just because they weren't living in NYC doesn't diminsh their value in God's eyes.

That's not the case at all. People are rightly afraid of the bloodthirsty threat of Islam and have made that fact quite clear along with their justified indignation at a certain troll's attempts to morally equate murderous Islam to Christianity.
Be honest. Christianity is NOT a threat to you at all. Islam IS.

If it doesn't exceed, then someone in the neighborhood needs to take care of that loudspeaker themselves. A Crosman .760 pellet gun aimed at the speaker should do the trick nicely. Note: By 'speaker', I mean the piece of hardware from which sound emanates, NOT the Muslim himself. Not advocating violence here!
I'm quite sure the call to prayer will be played from a tape recording. Crosman 760? Yikes, that brings back memories. Amazingly, they're still cranking 'em out. Too small a caliber, though. Check online for some of the customized CO2-powered Crosmans - pellets as large as 9mm are available. Then there's the "potato cannon", which could be modified to launch pickled pigs' feet...

I saw a TV program with a prayer call in Istanbul, Turkey, and it sent shudders down my spine, and no, I never want to hear that again.

THEY can go back from whence they came and broadcast away!
I wonder if the Indians are saying that about church bells.
Why don't you just wonder if the tribes that were here before the Indians, ever said the same thing about the Indians themselves. The Indians themselves were pretty good at murder, war, theivery and genocide--hell they practiced it enough.
In the Europeans they ran into a people who had it over them. You might wonder what the Europeans were in that position in the first place--then again you might not. In any event, Clash of cultures, nothing more nothing less, just like the one coming up between the USA and the Death Cult That Hates Life.
