Rush: Gorelick Quietly Asked By Kean To Resign!
Rush Limbaugh Radio Show ^ | 4/16/04 | LS

Posted on 04/16/2004 10:30:35 AM PDT by LS

According to an article Rush just read, Jamie Gorelick was quietly asked by Commission Chairman Thomas Kean to resign from the 9/11 commission due to conflict of interest. According to an unnamed staffer, she refused. Should we start a poll on how long she lasts?

To play devil's advocate: in my more conspiracy-minded moments, I have wondered whether Gorelick was a deliberate choice of the Bush administration, so that at an opportune moment the credibility and non-partisanship of the commission may be called into question. Hmm....

This morning on FOX, Juliet said a source told her off the record (whatever) that if Gorelick resigned it would open a can of worms. So, is there more corruption on that panel that could be brought out without too much effort? The longer this farce continues, the more John Q Public will see. I'm hoping this will go to the top of the previous administration and we finally see the last of Klintoons.

That's great that she refused! It might hit the lamestream press now (can you imagine if this was a pubbie in a similar situation? They'd be holding candlelight vigils in front of the Capitol Building).

According to their charter any report will have to be unamimous. What a waste of time.

Yep, that's what happens when the government investigates itself. I wonder what the tab is for the commission's catered meals.

Listen closely when Hannity pronounces Gorelick's name. Most people are saying GOR-eh-lik, but he pronounces it GAIR-eh-lik, and if you're not paying attention, it sounds just like 'derelict.'

LOL

I think Gorelick's a worthless piece of Clinton, like everyone else here, but I also think that having her stay on the Commission has an advantage or two. For one thing, no matter what the Commission reports, that report will be worthless. It's conclusions are ruined so long as she stays on the Commission. All we will have to do is say "Gorelick" and any advantage that Kerry gets from the most assuredly anti-Bush conclusions will be neutralized.

Another advantage is that if she goes, Daschle will probably be able to appoint her replacement. I wouldn't put it past him to put another arch-liberal out to smear the President. Gorelick isn't the worst one on the panel, another Ben-Veniste would be a real drag. a "neutral" (ha!) replacement would to some extent rehabilitate the Commission.

Personally, I think the Commission has been so discredited at this point, with conflicted members, appearances on talk shows, and the like, that nothing it does now will make any difference. It's conclusions will get a day or two of press and just expose the liberals as the vicious partisans they are.

According to an unnamed staffer, she refused

She just screwed over any possible creditability the 9/11 Commission might have left

It's time to take it to Hatch. Between this and his weakness showed over the judicial memo scandal, this guy disgusts me. Next time he's on Sean's show selling his damn CDs...Sean needs to hammer him, hard.

If Gorelick doesn't step aside, the report of the Committee with be tainted even moreso that it already is.

It's later than they think. The building I work in has those captivate.com screen, for news, weather, ads, etc. The latest poll asked whether the 9/11 commission had been compromised by partisan politics: 85% yes, 15% no. I know it's only an internet poll (and not an important enough one to attract FReeping or the DU counterpart), but the results when the poll is political at all trend moderate to liberal. This result surprised me.

Umm...could you be a little more clear on your feelings regarding Gorlick, Clinton, & Co.? You weren't expressing it with enought intensity.

(Just kidding)

Here is the resignation scenario:

-People start investigating how the Clinton/Gorelick "wall" hindered Clinton scandal investigations (Chinagate, campaign finance violations, TWA 800...)
-Clinton fears people will discover true intent of "wall"
-Clinton calls Gorelick, telling her to fall on her sword to get this out of public scrutiny before it is too late.
-Gorelick resigns "for the good of the commission"

Case closed, Clinton is safe again.

We know she wrote the memo - what she has to answer in public and under oath was whether this was a self-initiated action or did she do it at the behest of someone else.

I agree with all who say she was placed in this position to prevent her from testifying and to gain access to information.

We must keep our letters and postcards flowing to our Congressional offices, newspapers/media and this pitiful excuse of a fact finding commission.

I understand that Bush appointed the Commission chair, Lott (when he was GOP Senate leader) appointed the Republicans, and Daschle appointed the Dems. If Gore-Lick resigns, I assume that Daschle would be able to appoint her replacement. I wouldn't expect anyone appointed by Daschle to be an improvement...they could even be worse.

I do NOT believe she will resign UNLESS or UNTIL every member on the commission REQUEST it PUBLICALLY. Otherwise she will pervail.
