[history]
April 16, 2004 -- The Italian troops risking their lives in Iraq as part of the U.S.-led Coalition have fought with great skill and courage, and are a credit to the Italian nation, but even their valor pales before the bravery of Fabrizio Quattrocchi. He was the Italian hostage (one of four kidnapped by Iraqi Arab bandits) who was brutally murdered on Wednesday.

Let us review: Al Jazzer owed by Emir of Qatar...US allie...who give protection to Russian & Interpol wanted master chechin terrorist. US...help Qatar find Russians who kill terrorist who given protection by Emir...so basically US should not bitch about bad coverage of Al Jazzir, US protect and enpower terrorist enabler Emir of Qatar. Al Jazzir but symptom of bad relationship US pick.

Where is Frank Capra of this generation? Forget his fictional films (which some misunderstanding critics say show sappy/pure Americans; those films almost always show people at the absolute depths of dispair and on the brink of suicide). I am talking about his World War II educational films (as well as his post war films).
Where is "Why We Fight In Iraq"? Where is "Your Job In Afghanistan"?
The horrors of war were documented for American youth on trading cards long before we entered WWII. Americans "remember" 9.11.2001 but a good number have forgotten that the Pentagon was attacked as well as the WTC. Certainly the horror of that event has been sanitized in ways that Nazi attrocities (post war) never have been. I still have only seen 1 photo of a corpse in a body bag from that day. Did the police manage to seize every bit of film shot on the streets of New York?
I refuse to look at a single photo of a dead soldier or dead Iraqi civilian/combatant/terrorist until the media shows some DEAD civilians from 9.11.2001.
For those who think that 9.11 was an anomoly, they certainly have forgotten the lesson of the shoe bomber on the plane (who was apprehended trying to light a fuse in his shoe and still called a "suspect" in the attempted bombing).
9.11.2001 was intended to be an act of "defiance" against America that would signal to other Islamofascists (and antiAmerican radicals) that American turf could be hit. Charles Manson tried to start an uprising and reportedly so did Timothy McVeigh. More people seem to be responding to this call than the other individuals'.
This is war and 8 years of Clinton National Security Policy did not make us safer.

I sent a message of condolences to the Italian embassy via e-mail and received a very gracious replay from Ufficio Stampa
[stampa@itwash.org] the same day.

Fabrizio should be awarded the LET'S ROLL medal.

It's interesting how things change. Just 40 years ago, if you'd had an Italian and a German army unit, and asked, which would be the more effective/courageous fighting force, EVERYONE would have said, "The German." Now, the Germans timidly avoid deploying their military and a lone Italian stands up to these thugs. No more Italian army jokes!

The Islamoterrorists must be made to pay for their murderous and evil deeds.
Italy is a country of great courage and moral conviction.
Italy will never allow these assassins to intimidate the free world.

I don't know much about Italian culture. If I were to send a plant/flowers to the embassy in sympathy, is there a particular type that would be most appropriate?
This query is directed at anyone who would know.

Haven't a clue. I'm sure that under the circumstances they wouldn't take offense at any unintentional error.
If you called a florist in NYC, they'd probably know.

I sent this to the Italian Embassy:
To the Italian Embassy:
Please allow me to convey my sincerest condolences to the family of Fabrizio Quattrocchi and the Italian people in general. I offer my prayers for his soul and the comfort of his loved ones.
His last words "Now I'll show you how an Italian dies,"; epitomize the nobility and courage of the human spirit, especially compared with the barbaric savagry of his captors.
God bless Fabrizio.
Yours truly,

I certainly hope that Sr Quattrocchi still has "Family" in Sicily - to avenge his death by putting the perps' heads in a vise and working them over with a baseball bat, Joe Pesci-style.

A note of sympathy is more appropriate if you are sending to a consulate.
