Hi Folks, this article is about a Law that was proposed in NJ on 3-29-2004. The stated intent is to protect the NJ Highlands watershed, a beautiful part of the state, that supplies water for half the states citizens.

Great idea right, after all who doesn't want clean water right??????

Well this bill was architected by the NJ Sierra Club and other radical enviro's. It is essentially a No Growth bill that mandates that in 'core areas' of the Highlands that you cannot get a building permit without the approval of a board appointed by the Govenor, the STATE has right of first refusal if you want to sell your land, and lock the property values to "fair market value" set at the time the measure is passed.

There isn't even a map of when urban areas, watershed are located yet..... and McGreevy wants the bill to go to the state legislators in time for a big announcement on Earth Day.

You can get informed on this bill and it's ramifications at the following website:

http://www.njhighlands.com/index.html

If you click the TAKE ACTION button on the left you can send an email to all the legislators in NJ. Please freep the NJ Legislature on this bill (espically NJ Freepers tell your friends).

Please check out this site, if this law is passed is will be a nightmare. It tramples property rights and is a small step removed from the state excercising eminent domain on over 300,000 acres.

Thanks for your help on this

It would establish a regional council

Regional councils usurp constitutionally elected governments and are unconstitutional in and of themselves. They put into power people you don't want to have power over you, tjeu give unelected bureaucrats and nongovernmental agencies unconstututional means to fine or otherwise exact obedience from the population and conform to their policies.

Environmental issues are the method by which local control is expunged. I'm a staunch conservationist, except for the fact they've been hijacked by socialists and other assorted control freaks. There is no compromise or negotiation with these people, they sneak this stuff in. It's outright theft under the guise of protecting natural resources.

Be sure to read up on "The Delphi Technique" and Saul Alinsky; this is the method by which public meetings are hijacked. Trust me.

Thanks for the links!

Perhaps Newark and Jersey City should start using cisterns to collect their own water.

At the hearings it becomes evident that many of the supporters of this land grab are totally antigrowth. They are espically bitter towards the construction industry. They are very angry about builders making a profit!!!!

Oh the horror....

I talked with some supporters before the last meeting. They hadn't read the actual bill, but felt that "something had to be done". Of course as always the devil is in the details. I hope everyone who reads goes to the link:

Please follow the link to email the nj state legislators.

Somewhere, one of Mcgreedys friends owns some highland property that wont be protected and his property values will greatly increase. Just like Bruce babbitt did with the Big Sur coast, he banned development of some of it and later it turned out that he was a partner in developing a large chunk of it making himself verywealthy!!

"But I wonder why no supporters were invited if they (organizers) really wanted to educate people."

Now you're catching on bud...your socialist leaders use stealth and count on your apathy and ignorance...which has already been granted by the sheeple over the last 40 years...

Thank God there is a few conservatives left in my former home state...

All land- Every square inch is "Watershed", because of rain-snow-sleet, etc.
A "watercourse" is any rivulet of water running off your roof, even if it is as wide as a pencil lead, according to the enviros. They want to control all your usage of private property, all the while collecting higher and higher property taxes for many expenditures we all can question.
Every one of your friends who have been duped into donating ANY funds of ANY amount to the Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy, et al are guilty of letting them build to this kind of strength.
I love Paul Newman, but he does the voice-overs for the Nature Conservancy ads, and I will NEVER go to one of his films again. Either he has been duped or he is a fool. Would he like to try and have a house that only covers 1300 sq ft per acre? With many developments having 6 houses per acre, that calculates to a "House" footprint of just about 216 sq ft.
The ranchers and farmers have been begging for help from average Americans for years. Now it is starting to impact.
Good Luck to all the people fighting against this kind of BS in NJ and other places in on the East coast.

"...lock the property values to fair market value set at the time the legislation is passed...?"
I'm sure they are aware that real estate is the fastest-growing investment in the country. It is really the "new technology" that bureaucrats mean then they speak of what will succeed the over-rated dot coms, with growth in some markets of 14 and 18% annually, due to the 1.5 million immigrants that Ted Kennedy lets in each year - low interest rates have a relatively low influence on these rapid price increases and they are not factored in when calculating the rate of inflation, as neither are increases in taxes at the local, state and federal levels.

I just found out my Republican State Senator, Robert Smith, District 26, is the sponsor of this Bill. He's playing with his consituents' financial lives and he'll likely suffer no consequence for it, with all the weekend warrior enviros in these parts. He'll ruin their -- and my -- home values, but they'll love him for the perceived blow he struck for nature.

There's as much stupid up here as there are trees.

I was at the heariung in Trenton, there are 80 pages of admendments. The Sierra club is pissed. The pols look like they're running for cover.

Write Smith and you assemblyman to let your feelings be known.

There is still a good chance to kill this bill.
