Snow says Bush would eye tax simplification in 2nd term By Greg Robb

WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- The Bush administration would try to pass legislation simplying the tax code if President George Bush is re-elected in November. "I'll commit we're going to be addressing Congress with new proposals on the code," Snow said in a speech to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Philadelphia, according to Reuters. The flat tax merited some discussion as part of the effort, Snow said. The White House will have to take steps to change the Alernative Minimum Tax, which is capturing more and more middle-income wage earners, Snow said.

John Kerry is getting ready to propose his own tax simplification. He would reduce the 1040 form to two lines:

1 - How much did you make last year?

2 - Send it in.

Speaking of tax returns.

Teressa, the American Evita al Querry, refuses to share her returns with us common folk:

Spare me. Every time there is an "attempt" at tax simplification, it only gets worse and more complex. The only way out of this swamp is to abolish the tax code and go to an entirely different system. Check out www.fairtaxus.org for an alternative.

There goes the tax lawyer and accountants vote.

But this would also dry up offshoring tax returns.

I clicked on the CBS Market Watch link above in the header and was redirected to John Kerry Flash ad asking for money to topple Bush.

Did anyone else get this? Weird.

My son gave me his W-2's last night and this morning I did his taxes -- he is a student and made next to nothing that is taxable.

Took me an hour to do both the Federal and State. The Federal Form 1040EZ had a 30+ page booklet to use on the Net to fill out the form. That was unbelieveable because all I wanted was to find out the tax owed. He owed zero and got $29 back and had to file a return.

That doesn't compare to the State of Oklahoma where I had to have six pages to get back $6.19 for him -- owed no tax.

Then I have had to file a paper return Federal for my taxes instead of e-filing as I made contributions to too many organizations. Cleaned out a storage unit and contributed items to various organizations but I had too many donation forms so a paper form was required.

Perfect day for this article -- trash the Tax Code in File 13 and give us something simple. Of course, Kerry will be very unhappy because it will put people out of work -- too bad -- want the Tax Code abolished and something simple put in place.

My two cents for this morning, April 15, 2004!

Get the URL if you can. This is the second time it happened to me on FR today. The first time was on another thread and it directed me to johnkerry.com.

We may have been hacked and may need to alert the AMs.
