The phenomenal success of Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ is opening doors for all kinds of religious projects. For me, personally, as the director of a feature film Thérèse, based on the life of the most popular saint of modern times, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, scheduled for release in October of this year, the timing couldn't be better. The blockbuster status of Gibson's film has jarred secular Hollywood into sitting up and taking notice of this little movie made by our independent production company, Luke Films.

I call her my weather saint. Whenever I've needed to have a beautiful day, I've asked the Little Flower to intercede for me, and she has. Amazing

To be honest...it looks like it is filmed for a made for TV movie more than the big screen. Very low budget work here in comparison. But how are the characterizations? Great characterizations make a low budget irrelevant (i.e., "My Life as a Dog").

>>Well, I admit that people can draw closer to God through the daily habits of their life, but the way to heaven is not through our daily habits....<<
Actually, if you were familiar with her writings, you'd know that wasn't what is meant. St. Therese could, in some ways, be the Calvinist's favorite modern saint, for seh emphasized the freely given grace of God's love.

My comment was not on Therese's writings. It was on how the original post was worded.

Therese is the patron saint of soldiers. I hope the movie isn't schmaltzy because that wouldn't do her justice.

To think we're missing out on all that. I wonder if it helps to face Rome. S'pose it couldn't hurt.

Dude...Jesus is the ONLY way to Heaven...There is NO other name under Heaven whereby men must be saved...
Habits notwithstanding
Grace plus nothing
Fruits are indicitive of a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ
Hence : 'Faith without works is dead"....
Even the devils have 'faith' - (in that they know perfectly well "Who" Jesus is) what they dont have is a saving relationship with Jesus Christ..
Many will say to Christ on Judgement Day...Lord Lord we prophesied in your name..and in your name cast out demands...and He will reply to them..."Depart from me you evil doers...I never knew you"

Dude...Jesus is the ONLY way to Heaven...There is NO other name under Heaven whereby men must be saved St. Therese would be the first in line to agree with you.
The question is not "can I get to heaven some way other than through Jesus"; the answer to that is a clear NO.
The question is "what does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus"?

"Pope John Paul II himself saw Therese last summer, and has given his blessing not just to the film, but also to all who view it." ????????????????????????????????????????
What the HELL is this??? What happened to the Vatican tap dance about the Pope never rendering opinions about artistic works??? "It is as it was" -- yes, no, maybe??? Or were they just out to screw a traditional Catholic like Mel Gibson???
It is no longer possible to ignore that this Pope has promoted left wing heretics to destroy the historical Church from within while losing no opportunity to step all over traditionalists like Mel who revere 19 1/2 centuries of Church teachings and receive nothing but grief. Gag me.

Not to start a theological debate here, but daily prayer and confession are not mandated to go to heaven according to Christian teachings. Believing that Jesus died for your sins is the only mandate given for entrance into heaven.

Actually, it was quite good.

Why then did Jesus and St. Paul both tell us to "pray always"? Why did Jesus, St. James, St. Paul, and St. John urge us to confess our sins?
"Confess, therefore, your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be saved. For the unceasing prayer of a just man is of great avail." (St. James 5.16)
Have you actually read your Bible, or are you just making stuff up? Do you think God wants people in heaven who don't pray and don't confess their sins?

I was rather short in my response. I realize it's not about the Bible per se, but it is a religious story, in a sense about the Bible in a broader sense. My point was that Hollywood used to draw on religious stories quite regularly, but then thought pornography a more profitable route.
That's what happens when you get old...you just assume everyone can read your thoughts that led up to the next sentence out of your mouth or your keyboard.

I was just making a point that a story about characters from the Bible would have a broader appeal than a story about a nun-- as nice as she may be. Hollywood would be smarter to go with Paul and John the Baptist instead of nuns and priests and such.
