Will law silence the church? Bill that would outlaw the Bible and Catechism in Canada passes House
Washington Times ^ | April 2004

Christian leaders in Canada fear that a new law might de facto condemn portions of the Bible as hate literature, an Anglican online service reports.

Bill C-250, which is currently before the Canadian parliament in Ottawa, proposes the proscription of public statements condemning homosexual behavior.

This could lead to a prosecution of the church for teaching that "sexual conduct between people of the same sex is morally wrong," warned the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops in a letter to Justice Minister Irwin Cotler, according to Virtuosity Digest, a conservative Anglican online publication.

Janet Buckingham, director of law and public policy for the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, said senators told her they are "getting a ton of phone calls and e-mails opposing the bill."

Let's put it this way: there is not one Southern Baptist Convention affiliated church in Canada. Not one. Tell you something?

Prayer BUMP!

If this passes, we may be receiving religious refugees from Canada.

Agree with those who tie CFR in with the war against religion in general and Christianity in particular.

CFR is simply another step in a series that commenced decades ago and is rapidly approaching a de facto ban on religion as is occuring in Canada and already exists in several European nations.

Judicial bans on prayer and the display of religiously based materials in virtually all public places have become so common as to be greeted with indifference by most (and rejoicing by a significant minority). "Hate" crime bills are in place in many states and have been reviewed by the courts including the Supreme Court of the United States. Despite rather obvious Constitutional violations these laws have been upheld.

The passage of CFR, the President's signing of this bill and the court's upholding of same shows clearly that no branch of our government regards the First Amendment as the actual law of the land. With this attitude dominating in all three branches of our government there is no reason to suppose that a federal "Hate" crime bill very similar to the law now being put in place in Canada could not pass here. "Hate" crime legislation has been proposed at the federal level several times and only been prevented passage by Republican majorities. Who knows how long these will remain or if they will not shift their stances based on pressure from the media, leftists and homosexual pressure groups. We can be 100% certain that such pressure will continue and grow as the homosexual agenda gains headway at the local and state levels.

I believe that a de facto repeal of key provisions of our Constitution such that liberty is curtailed and redress by political means made all but impossible is grounds for armed rebellion and the replacement of the government by those who will reinstate the Constitution and abide by it.

Thank you for sending me to this. It just another sign of the times, the great falling away the Apostle Paul spoke about.

Another Civil War? Do you believe there are sufficient numbers to support this?

Scott Brockie, a conscientious born-again Christian and owner of a Toronto print shop, refused a request from gay rights activist Ray Brilliger to print material for the Canadian Lesbians and Gay Archives. Mr. Brockie found himself hauled before the Ontario Human Rights Board who ordered Mr. Brockie to pay $5,000 in damages to Ray Brilliger. While Heather McNaughton, the adjudicator assigned to this case, acknowledged the sincerity of Mr. Brockie's religious convictions in her ruling dated February 24th, 2000, she nevertheless stated: "In fact nothing in my order will prevent Brockie from continuing to hold and practice his religious beliefs. Brockie remains free to hold his religious beliefs and to practice them in his Christian community."

This is truly frightening. And the bill has not yet passed the Senate!

What recourse do conscientious objecting Canadian citizens have at this point? Is civil unrest in the forseeable future?

One bright note this AM - Marxist faggot Svend Robinson announced that he is not running for re-election.

Hopefully, he's dying of AIDS. Damn, I'm mean - but that b*stard deserves to suffer.

Very well said. I see CFR as the move from the Judicial activist judges to the Legislative and Executive Branches.

Well, I'd like to say I don't believe it possible...but sadly I do. This is what liberalism seeks to impose...a lack of free speech. If you disagree, you're hateful.

It sounds like Communism to me. There's only one viewpoint...the left...everything else is wrong...the state is right...religions are banned.

I thought the Bible was already considered hate speech in the PRC, and I do not mean China. I mean the People's Republic of Canada.

"The surest way for the Left to start a civil war is to try and confiscate the Bibles of American Christians."

I'm inclined to agree.
