Phone: 202-663-6500 Fax: 202-663-6363 Jamie.Gorelick@wilmer.com

Jamie Gorelick's career has spanned the legal, policy, and corporate landscape. As one of Washington's best-known litigators she has represented corporations and individuals on a wide array of problems, particularly in the regulatory and enforcement arenas. She has particular experience in corporate governance and compliance, as well as internal corporate investigations and is the co-author of the leading treatise on the maintenance of corporate documents. Ms. Gorelick's leadership in the bar was recognized when she served as President of the District of Columbia Bar. In addition to her substantial litigation background, Ms. Gorelick has held senior positions in government and public service. She currently is a member of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, which is charged with finding out why the U.S. was unprepared for the attacks of September 11, 2001, and what changes should be made in the nation's capabilities to defend itself against terrorism. She was well-prepared for this service by her tenure -- from 1994 to 1997 -- as Deputy Attorney General of the United States, the second highest position in the Department of Justice. In that role, she supervised all the United States Attorneys, the litigating divisions of the Department and the law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation; she was also the chief operating officer with responsibility for over 100,000 people and a budget of more than $18 billion. Ms. Gorelick came to this position from the Department of Defense, where she was General Counsel, running the country's largest law firm. She is a member of the Central Intelligence Agency's National Security Advisory Panel and has served on numerous government commissions. Earlier in her career, Ms. Gorelick was Vice Chair of the Task Force on the Audit, Inspection and Investigative Components of the Department of Defense, which led to the institution of an Inspector General there, and she was Assistant to the Secretary and Counselor to the Deputy Secretary of Energy.

Ms. Gorelick also has held senior positions in the corporate sector. For six years, from 1997 to 2003, she was Vice Chair of Fannie Mae, the company that is the nation's largest source of housing finance. There, she shared responsibility for the overall management of the company, with a special emphasis on affordable housing. Ms. Gorelick also is a member of the boards of directors of United Technologies Corporation and Schlumberger, Ltd.

Ms. Gorelick is a graduate of Harvard College, where she was Radcliffe Orator, and Harvard Law School, on whose Visiting Committee she serves. She is a member of Harvard College's Board of Overseers. She also is on the boards of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, and the Supreme Court Fellows Commission. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Ms. Gorelick has received many awards and commendations, including the Secretary of Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Director of Central Intelligence Award, the Department of Justice's Edmund J. Randolph Award, the Outstanding Public Interest Advocate of the Year Award, the Radcliffe College Alumnae Recognition Award, the Wickersham Award for Exceptional Public Service and Dedication to the Legal Profession, the American Bar Association's Margaret Brent Award, the Prominent Women in International Law Award, the Women's Bar Association's Woman Lawyer of the Year Award, the American Jewish Committees Judge Learned Hand Award, the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund's Aiming High Award, and the D.C. Chamber of Commerce's Corporate Leadership Award. She has been listed in Fortune Magazines Fifty Most Powerful Women in Business and Working Mother Magazine's Twenty-Five Most Influential Working Mothers in America.

If they could, they'd try to prove Bush was a secret member of Al Queda.

If this woman is so brilliant why didn't she have sense to decline being on the 9/11 commission?

Oh, I forgot. She thought her memo was "Secret" and nobody would ever know.

I love it that she has been exposed. Priceless.

Yeah hasn't Fannie Mae had some big accounting scandals? If a republican had written that memo he would be under indictment by now.

Ms. Gorelick might want to take a quick glance in the nearest mirror.

According to her bio (post #9), she wrote the book on destruction of evidence.

Happened upon Congressman Sensenbrenner (R-WI) on Chrissy's show tonight...he was calling for Gorelick to resign from the 9/11 commission. At last someone gets it. Matthews was being extremely obtuse about the suggestion.

I wonder how many other dots were not connected due to this wall...

Technology transfers...
All the players in illegal contributions and their illicit connections

IMHO this wall was just to protect Clinton's sorry a$$. It ended up costing US mightily.

Where was Jamie Gorelick on 9/11/2001? Was she also conveniently out of the country, like her mentors Gore and Clinton?

What did Jamie Gorelick know, and when did she know it?

(BTW--Shep Smith pronounced her name "Girl-Lick" tonight. Was he implying something?)

Good post. Yes -- why aren't a number of genuine citizens seated on that panel -- just pol flunkies with proven loyalty records or closets full of skeletons interlocking directorships.

The Disgraced 911 Commission

"You think you are gonna ask me why I dared refuse repeat DOJ requests for investigations of dangerous illegal aliens.
You think you are gonna ask me why I arranged to stovepipe intelligence to make intraagency effective communication useless.
You think you are gonna ask me why illegal aliens who were felons became voters for our Democratic party.
You think you are gonna ask me why I OK'd the use of stolen FBI files on DNC computers.
Not a chance. Following LBJ, your gonads are in my fist.
Your FBI files are in my computer. Now go away.
"

"Some wonder whether [Clinton] was distracted by the legal and
political quagmire of the Monica Lewinsky case.
And even former Clinton aides now regret that the
battle with bin Laden and his Al-Qaida organization was never fully joined.
'Clearly, not enough was done,' said Jamie Gorelick,
a former deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration.
'We should have caught this. Why this happened, I don't know.
Responsibilities were given out. Resources were given. Authorities existed.
We should have prevented this.'

As a lawyer myself, I have to say I love it when a lawyer gets hoisted by her own petard. These people connected with Clinton continue to think that they can lie, mislead, commit criminal acts and no one will call them on it. Their arrogance knows no bounds.

However, I'm happy to say that it is a new day and they are getting the comeuppence they deserve - with luck, some of these b*stards will be getting jail terms as well.
