Sept. 11 Highlights
Associated Press
Highlights of Wednesday's Sept. 11 commission hearing on intelligence and law enforcement issues related to the 2001 terror attacks.
GORELICK
_House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner, D-Wis., said commission member Jamie Gorelick should step down because of a memo she wrote as deputy attorney general during the Clinton administration. The memo regarded the "wall" separating FBI criminal and intelligence operations. Gorelick says she will not step down.
INTELLIGENCE FAILURES
_The CIA and other intelligence agencies tracked the rise of al-Qaida but never fully appreciated the threat it posed to the United States or the intense interest in using aircraft in terror plots, according to a commission staff report.
CIA REBUILDING
_CIA Director George Tenet said it would take five more years to fully rebuild the agency's clandestine service to infiltrate terror cells and recruit informants overseas. The eavesdropping National Security Agency and other intelligence agencies are also years away from being on proper footing, Tenet said.
FBI OVERHAUL
_FBI Director Robert Mueller listed a number of reforms he said would focus the FBI more sharply on counterterrorism and vastly improve its intelligence and information-sharing capabilities. Mueller urged the panel not to recommend creation of a separate domestic intelligence agency, raising concern about constitutional rights and civil liberties.
FBI CHALLENGES
_The commission staff issued a statement saying the FBI reform efforts face a number of challenges, including field office confusion and resistance, inadequate training and a shortage of translators and linguists. Intelligence analysts, the report said, are still relegated to second-class status and sometimes have to act as receptionists or empty trash cans.

Ok, don't resign. Just testify.

The Pubs should have already handed her a subpoena. But they haven't. And I'd bet she will not testify. The only question is: Which Pubbie will resign over this fiasco?
So has it been; so shall it be.

Absolutely! She should disclose the directives she received to write that memo, by whom is obvious.

If she were Republican there would be a media campaign to humiliate and rout her off the commission (kangaroo court)

No, if she does not resign, we should close the whole commission. Gorelick's conflict of interest was not a surprise to whomever appointed the Democrat members of this committee and is simply indicative of the partisan nature of this witch hunt.
Bob Kerry stated in an editorial in the WSJ that if the 9/11 commission could not get past partisanship, it would be a waste of time. Well, Gorelicks presence on the commission is proof of the inherent partisan nature of the Democrat team. SHUT DOWN the whole commission.

While Gary Aldrich couldn't tell us some things directly, he certainly has given us many clues that this kind of stuff was/is happening.

So even this Dem wants her off. It's ludicrous she's even there, how did THAT happen?

Only Republicans have the decency and dignity to resign....Today's Democrats seem to lack either!

Gorelick should either resign voluntarily or the commission should ask her for it. Another Freeper opined (maybe with a bit of tin foil) that Gorelick may have been put on the commission precisely to cause it's collapse in the even the heat started turning up on the Clinturd admin.
Interesting speculation.

You can count on a Democrat never apologizing for a mistake. Her boss Bill Clinton, never apologized for ZipperGate.

IMHO, the reason she is there is to leak info to the Clinton's. Who do you think told her to write this?

I believe that was the intent of many of these 9/11 commission appointments; to defuse the obvious 'witch hunt' against the Bush admin.

Sensenbrenner is a REPUBLICAN. That is either a typo or a deliberate mistatement of the truth. Since it's an AP story, it's hard to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Not surprising.
She and her (D) ilk believe they are above the rules and can't be touched.
She knows her brethern and the media won't push her to resign. Why should she?
To her thinking: It's only the VRW Republicans that are out to 'get' her.
Most likely, a rebuttal and response is in the works now by her (D) and DNC handlers to deflect the 'resignation' charge. Should be ready to go by Thursday late/Friday prime-time news to carry the weekend. Watch for it.
She will be praised for subverting yet another attempt by republicans to have their way. That's the battle, not what's right or wrong.
She has no dignity. Power and control is what matters these democrats.

She is no longer effective.
She will resing.
Ben-Veniste doesn't like looking like a fool, and she made a fool out of all of them sitting on the panel.
He'll throw her off.

We better see some long lost Republican backbone on this Gorelick issue. I've called my senators.
