Call on Jamie S. Gorelick to Resign from the 9-11 Commission
From the AP:
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner called on Jamie Gorelick to resign from the Sept. 11 commission Wednesday, citing a memo she wrote as a deputy attorney general on separating counterintelligence from criminal investigations. "Scrutiny of this policy lies at the heart of the commission's work," said Sensenbrenner, R-Wis. "Ms. Gorelick has an inherent conflict of interest as the author of this memo and as a government official at the center of the events in questions."
On Tuesday, Attorney General John Ashcroft released the declassified 1995 memo from Gorelick containing instructions that "more clearly separate" counterintelligence from criminal investigations. He said the "wall" between counterintelligence and criminal investigations was a key impediment to terrorism probes before the Sept. 11 attacks.
The Landmark Legal Foundation, a conservative law firm, also has called on Gorelick to step down, citing the memo.
A phone message left with the Sept. 11 commission was not immediately returned Wednesday.
I ask you to send the following email -- or your own -- asking Ms. Gorelick to do the right thing and step down. Please flood the commission with these emails.
Send the email to the following address: info@9-11Commission.gov; info@9-11Commission.gov

Sample email is as follows:
Subject: Do the Right Thing -- Resign
Dear Ms. Gorelick,
Please do the right thing and step down from the 9/11 Commission.
In 1995, as Deputy Attorney General of the Clinton Administration, you drafted and signed a memo creating a wall between counterintelligence and criminal investigation, a key impediment to terrorism probes before the Sept. 11 attacks. As House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner averred, "[s]crutiny of this policy lies at the heart of the commission's work."
This presents a severe and impermissible conflict of interest. There is "an inherent conflict of interest as [you are] the author of this memo and [are] a government official at the center of the events in questions."
Ms. Gorelick -- please do the right thing. If America is to believe that the 9/11 Commission is not merely a partisan sham aimed solely at damaging the Bush Administration, you must resign your position in light of this gross political conflict of interest.
I trust you will do the honorable thing and resign.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME, YOUR ADRRESS, ETC.
Hit the road Gorelick
And don't you come back no more no more no more no more
Hit the road Gorelick
And don't you come back no more!
Maybe she should do what another famous Gorelick does and just call herself Jamie G.
It rhymes with derelict.
However, it was later learned that president Clinton not only KNEW about it, but that he subsequently made a thwarted attempt to obtain the counterintelligence information about what the FBI had learned of the Communist Chinese influence on the presidential election in November of 1996.
Charles Ruff, Clinton legal counsel who most recently defended him in the Senate Impeachment trial, made the FBI contact. Ruff contacted Janet Reno's deputy Jamie Gorelick and wanted to know what federal investigators knew or suspected about Chinese illegal contributions to the presidential campaign.
when FBI director Freeh learned of the White House probe by Gorelick, he ordered the information not be provided to Clinton, federal law enforcement officials told the Daily Republican in 1997. In a New York Times story Ruff was quoted as telling Gorelick he was seeking the information on behalf of the National Security Council .
However, law enforcement officials pointed out that Ruff's request was received only after FBI director Freeh had left Washington on a trip to the Middle East. In his absence, attorney general Janet Reno and Gorelick quickly moved to obtain the secret FBI files.
Before the Justice Department turned over the FBI files to Clinton's legal counsel, Robert Bryant, then head of the FBI national security division, picked up the telephone and informed Freeh of Clinton's probe for the secret files on the Chinese investigation.
Freeh ordered the files withheld. And people wonder how come the Senate of the United States was never able to get Janet Reno to obey the law of the land and appoint an independent counsel to investigate the Chinese money that helped get Clinton and Gore elected
."
Dear Commission and Ms. Gorelick,
Recently Ms. Gorelick's history in substantive policy changes of intelligence operations have been brought to light. Being so intimately involved in the procedures which led to the intelligence failures of 9/11, Ms. Gorelick should not be sitting on this commission.
The partisan nature of Ms. Gorelick's appointment and the personal self protection she must engage in, makes her an unfit panel member.
I request she be asked to resign in order to restore some semblance of integrity to the commission. If the committee fails to remove Ms. Gorelick, your conclusions will be suspect, and your recommendations will lose authoritative impact.
Sincerely,
I hope many, many Freepers do the same.

I revised the letter slightly and sent this to the attention of Thomas Kean at the 9/11 commission (same email address):
Dear Mr. Kean:Jamie Gorelick should do the right thing and step down from the 9/11 Commission. If she doesn't, then you should take the initiative to have her removed from the 9/11 Commission.
In 1995, as Deputy Attorney General of the Clinton Administration, Jamie Gorelick drafted and signed a memo creating a wall between counterintelligence and criminal investigation, a key impediment to terrorism probes before the Sept. 11 attacks. As House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner averred, "[s]crutiny of this policy lies at the heart of the commission's work."

Please have her resign or remove her from the 9/11 Commission.
Sincerely,
