Call on Jamie S. Gorelick to Resign from the 9-11 Commission
From the AP:
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner called on Jamie Gorelick to resign from the Sept. 11 commission Wednesday, citing a memo she wrote as a deputy attorney general on separating counterintelligence from criminal investigations. "Scrutiny of this policy lies at the heart of the commission's work," said Sensenbrenner, R-Wis. "Ms. Gorelick has an inherent conflict of interest as the author of this memo and as a government official at the center of the events in questions."
On Tuesday, Attorney General John Ashcroft released the declassified 1995 memo from Gorelick containing instructions that "more clearly separate" counterintelligence from criminal investigations. He said the "wall" between counterintelligence and criminal investigations was a key impediment to terrorism probes before the Sept. 11 attacks.
The Landmark Legal Foundation, a conservative law firm, also has called on Gorelick to step down, citing the memo.
A phone message left with the Sept. 11 commission was not immediately returned Wednesday.
I ask you to send the following email -- or your own -- asking Ms. Gorelick to do the right thing and step down. Please flood the commission with these emails.
Send the email to the following address: info@9-11Commission.gov; info@9-11Commission.gov
You may also phone the commission here:
Tel: (202) 331-4060
Fax: (202) 296-5545
Sample email is as follows:
Subject: Do the Right Thing -- Resign
Dear Ms. Gorelick,
Please do the right thing and step down from the 9/11 Commission.
In 1995, as Deputy Attorney General of the Clinton Administration, you drafted and signed a memo creating a wall between counterintelligence and criminal investigation, a key impediment to terrorism probes before the Sept. 11 attacks. As House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner averred, "[s]crutiny of this policy lies at the heart of the commission's work."
This presents a severe and impermissible conflict of interest. There is "an inherent conflict of interest as [you are] the author of this memo and [are] a government official at the center of the events in questions."
Ms. Gorelick -- please do the right thing. If America is to believe that the 9/11 Commission is not merely a partisan sham aimed solely at damaging the Bush Administration, you must resign your position in light of this gross political conflict of interest.
I trust you will do the honorable thing and resign.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME, YOUR ADRRESS, ETC.

My email to the commission:
Subject: Consider Your Reputations
It's an absolute disgrace that you are not asking the 100% compromised Ms. Gorelick to resign from your panel, and instead to sit as a witness under oath for her part in the 9-11 disaster.
Your commission is becoming a national laughingstock. All of your personal reputations will wind up in the sewer with Ms. Gorelick's if you cannot bring yourselves to demand that she step down.
America is watching this travesty!
Signed
My Real Name,
San Diego

I like what you have done, but I think everyone should write their own version of your letter. If it appears as if there is a coordinated effort to force her resignation, the losers on that Commission will dismiss it as a political hit. the truth is, Gorelick should be forced out because it is what the situation demands. This isn't political, it's logical--she must step down and testify.

Kean defended her today. He doesn't care what the people think. Power defending power, as usual, regardless of party or ideology. This whole thing is crap. The only positive is that even the sheeple are beginning to catch on. It is cra*, I agree. I saw him yesterday. (See my comment on #157 here).
FOX has been replaying his comments this morning. There was one thing he said I didn't catch when I posted my note on #157. He said that People better stay out of OUR business. Uh, excuse me ?? This IS OUR BUSINESS, arsehole ! Guess who's paying your salary, Kean ? What a jerk!
Come to think of it, I may just write HIM another note, scolding him for that stupid remark. I think he was referring to a GOP that was calling for Gorelick to step down and also to take the stand and testify on her hamstringing our crime and terror fighting capabilities. She SHOULD step down and she SHOULD testify, imho ...

I think his comment was directed to Sensenbrenner but it showed his arrogance toward anyone who would dare question him. What a putz.

Gorelick is the one person most guilty for not preventing 9/11. So what is she doing on the commission?

Dick Morris was one one of the talk cable shows last night and said he knew Gorelick well and she actually ran the Attorney Geneneral's office in the Clinton administration under Reno, and she, Gorelick, more than anyone else was responsible for putting the wall in place which was in large responsible for 9/11. I could not believe me ears. She has NO business on the Commission which in large part is condeming President Bush and his man.

Listening to Laura Ingraham this morning.... she played a sound bite of Mr. Kean saying "people should just stay OUT of OUR business".
What an arrogant arse!
If Gore-Lick isn't removed from the Commission, the whole damned thing should be disbanded. It is worse than a partisan dog & pony show - it has degenerated into a self-aggrandizing showcase for the Commissioners. And with Gore-Lick's self-serving participation, any results and recommendations which may be forthcoming should be rendered completely meaningless.

Fabulous letter.

This commission will go down in history as the most corrupt commission ever put together. They either step forward to correct this, or future Americans will spit on their graves.

Thank you both for pinging me here.
Composed and sent my own dynamite letter to the Commision!
(Used some red and blue in it to show it is not a mass mail clone.)
Demanded not only removal from the Committee, but for her to appear - in public - on their hot seat.
