I think that it would be appropriate to make calls to the offices of both Teddy Kennedy and Robert Byrd and tell them that ad is the direct result their insane, hate mongering on the Senate floor and that both Senators need to once again take the Senate floor and apologize to their fellow Senators, the Bush administration, especially Donald Rumsfeld and the American public. I think resignations from all major policy committees may be in order as well.

This just in.... I just got off of the phone with the FLA Dem party. They said and I quote "This was the action of a misguided individual and in know way represents the mainstream democrats in Florida" This guy Ken is about to take a fall. They have a prepared statement for the media. She would not give it to me. I called J Fing Kerry's office in Miami, I got the voice mail. This is so much fun!!!!!!

>>CLEARLY a felony.

Why do I think the authorities would treat this as something more serious if it were NOT published? Yet lately this kind of political attitude (now popularly known as "hate speech") is reaching out to every lunatic who can read or hear. And I worry, because if the nets are cast wide enough they are bound to catch somebody crazy enough to assassinate a political figure. Publishing statements like this is MORE serious than an isolated, hushed conspiracy. This is IMO nothing less than advertising for an assassin. It'll be a miracle if we don't see somebody shot at, in the Bush years.

I read the applicable law - unless there is an expansion beyond a literal reading of 18 USC 871 it only applies to those directly in line. This is not an opinion, but no plain reading of 18 USC 871 allows it to apply to further down the line members of the succession unless they are actually next in line. Look at this:

upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect That does not include the individual who is five steps away from the Presidency. But you may know of a court case that expands this further - just the code does not. 18 USC 115 may apply, however. Is the sedition limited to times of declared war? Not that I am questioning, but I would think an actual declaration may be necessary.

I, too, got the recording at the Miami Kerry office. Cowards!

Contact made with the FCC. The person I spoke with referred me to the Secret Service, was blown away by this ad, is looking into it, and was very helpful and courteous.

It's in The Gabber. Probably a low budget weekly.

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX TUE APRIL 13, 2004 12:12:05 ET XXXXX
CAMPAIGN RAGE: FLORIDA DEMOCRATS PLACE NEWSPAPER AD CALLING FOR RUMSFELD HIT; FUNDRAISING FOR KERRY
Campaign 2004 turns extreme in Florida with the placement of a newspaper ad calling for physical retribution against Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld!
"We should put this S.O.B. up against a wall and say 'This is one of our bad days,' and pull the trigger," the ad reads.
MORE
The call-to-arms fundraising ad, placed by the St. Petersburg Democratic Club in the current issue of the GABBER, a local St. Petersburg paper, asks readers to make an urgent donation to the John Kerry campaign.
Club Vice President Edna McCall told the DRUDGE REPORT Tuesday morning: "We want to get our country back. In Iraq, we're in deep trouble. If we don't try to get this situation cleared up, we are finished."
When asked if the ad was a challenge to inflict violence on Rumsfeld, McCall explained: "'Pull the trigger' means let Rumsfeld know where we stand, not to shoot him!"
"We are getting raped, and they are planning to steal the election again."
McCall said her club is in direct contact with John Kerry campaign.
"We're all working together."
The publisher of the GABBER says running the ad with the passage "pull the trigger" was a mistake that "slipped through" during the editing of this week's edition.

Actually, I'm more outraged they called him SOB than the use of trigger. I truly don't think they were calling for his assassination.

When one says,"Put him against the wall & pull the trigger" what the heck does that sound like? It sounds like a firing squad and I might add, very succinct word picture.
