Barbara (L) and Jenna Bush, the daughters of U.S. President George W Bush, walk together from the Darnall Army Community Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas, April 11, 2004 after President Bush (news - web sites) and members of his family visited with soldiers wounded in Iraq (news - web sites). Bush awarded 10 purple hearts to troops recovering in the hospital, after attending an Easter Sunday Church service at a chapel within the army base in central Texas.

Im a father of a daughter...Though my daughter is not of fashion sense stage yet...Im a veteran of the great debate with parental struggles regarding fashion having lived with 2 teenage sisters. I know both sides of the argument and I know if you try to step in too much and dictate fashion to a strong willed older teen, they rebel that much harder.
Im also a realist who knows how to butt out of an adult's closet and dresser. Unless she is wearing nothing but a thong out in public or I feel she is visibly making a mockery of me, her fashion has little to do with me in her appearances with soldiers.
For what it's worth, I think she is dressed well. She has a sweater covering her straps and flows past her rear. If she dressed like Laura Bush, she would be called an old fuddy duddy and a rich girl not connected to the real world.

I would agree about the spaghetti straps, but I think those jackets they put on were an afterthought. Typically it is warm here in Texas this time of year, but yesterday a late coldfront came through, the temperature droped, and it has been cold and rainy ever since. Very uncharacteristic. We even had some hail late on Easter morning. While the jackets don't look great, I think they were unprepared for the cold weather and grabbed what they could to stay warm.

nevermind, its not past her rear but I still believe its an ok outfit.

No problem at all... Just wanted to go on record in saying that I think the Bush family is a refreshing change from the opportunustic photo-op, poll-driven, fake Klinton family.

The were not attending their regular church.
attending an Easter Sunday Church service at a chapel within the army base in central Texas
Besides, people who attend church in some of the more rural areas dress differently than people who attend church in a town or city.

Those who think young girls dress inappropriately today must not remember hot pants in around 1970, with cheeks peeking out just a bit.
To: Demetrius Slaughter
Well, I think the green dress looked better in the second picture... from the side view it looked odd. Re. the spaghetti strap complaints: I'd agree that is not appropriate for church, but perhaps that is why she's wearing a sweater over it. As for the jean jacket, again maybe a poor choice, but she may not even have worn it to church. As an earlier poster pointed out, she may have pulled it on in the car or in transit. I thought the hemlines were pretty modest and overall the dresses looked very nice. I think a lot of posters have gone a bit overboard on nitpicking the clothes! Maybe some would say the girls should dress more conservatively, but I certainly don't think the dresses merit the kind of complaints people are posting....

Who appointed you the judge? You mean instead of you? You've done nothing on this thread except judge people.
As for this remark:
It reminded me of a couple of scabs I got on my knees, way back when, from a rug burn.
You showed yourself for the snot you are. You also sound like a control freak; I pity your daughter.

The weather suddenly turned very very bad in that part of Texas on Easter. The jean jacket probably wasn't planned.

Awwwwww..... he knows. Pop has admitted his disgressions by talking about his rug burns.... Hey, but demure young lasses are ones the good ol' boys look to find when they are out of reach of pops..... they can be party animals

As it so happens, I am a very good-looking guy.And modest as well!
In my opinion, the first daughters dresses look fine. What are they supposed to do, dress like matronly old women? Give 'em a break!
What is more important is where they spent their Easter Sunday, and what they were doing. It seems some people will nitpick about anything when it comes to President Bush and his family.
