US Hostage Will Be 'Spared'
Australia News.com ^ | April 12, 2004 | wire report

Posted on 04/12/2004 5:00:46 AM PDT by threat matrix

The Iraqi group holding a US hostage has agreed not to kill him, Mezher Dulaimi, a self described Iraqi mediator, said yesterday.

Dulaimi, who heads an Iraqi human rights group, said the affair of the missing American had been settled, and that he was in good health.

Earlier, Qatar based satellite television station Al-Jazeera screened a video showing a man in civillian clothes and presented him as Thomas Hamill, a United States national held hostage.

Dulaimi said that the United States hostage had recieved medical attention.

However there was no immediate word on when he might be released.

Know what Tdadams, I really do not know you and hence there is no need for vitriol (and anyways there are better things to do). I never attacked your opinion, and if you thought i did so then i am sorry. I still think you took my post in a wrong manner, but all the same know i was not attacking your viewpoint (or you for that matter). Again i have always viewed FR as a place for opinions, and i was basically making mine, namely that it was not a guts issue but something to do with infighting among clerics. I do not agree with your point, but in no way would i say it is silly. I was not even thinking that. However i guess i must have constructed my post in a manner that made you feel i was attacking you or/and your point.

I wasn't.

There. I hope that solves it.

I just wanted to say "Thank You" to you and the others with you. I appreciate the job you all are doing over there.

He does look like he is managing considering the circumstances. Truth be known he is just as tough as a cobb.

He does look really good and in control of his emotions.
I wish he were in control of his fate.
I pray God is.

You basically have it. Had to sell the farm, still in debt, wife's heart surgery. Not sure about the insurance, but his wife is a 911 dispatcher and I would have to assume that she would carry the family ins. through her job. At this point, i bet Haliburton will pick up the tab...they ought to.

"He said that most Arab men were queers."

I find that very believable....

you have a population there that has found it so convinient to keep women hidden from society and business....

they can just claim that its their "religion".....but *wink* *wink* ...we think we know what THAT is all about.....

Pray is all that we can do. I know that we all would love to have him home...I hope that God has the same plan. He is always in control. We may not agree with it but...

Welcome to FR.
I just noted your sign-on date.
I hope you'll like FR and us.

Am I correct in thinking you know the family?
If so, please tell them, we have prayer threads
here at FR for Thomas Hammill and his loved ones.

"I wish he were in control of his fate. I pray God is."

God is always with us, but He does let fate unfold....

Let's pray instead, that the man and his family find the graces they need to carry on, no matter what happens.....

"The US commanders there are willing to let 100 Americans die going block to block while our Air Force sits on the ground. Mind boggling restraint.IMO"

"Blatantly False. Nowhere near the truth. Uninformed. Please refrain from statments like this, they really don't help anything and are totally incorrect."

Yes, it was uninformed. We have become so blinded by media second-guessing we think we armchair generals know better. Sure we all have opinions, but really *think* - do you *really* know better than TRAINED PROFESSIONALS WHO ARE THERE IN THE FIELD AND HAVE THE FACTS AT HAND AND HAVE COLLEAGUES LIVES ON THE LINE. Do you think for a second commanders would risk Marine lives unnecessarily????

Ha! Neil Cavuto just reported that Al-Jazeera is reporting that 11 Russians have been kidnapped.

He then said "Again..its Al-Jazeera. So we can't confirm the validity of the report."

Neil Cavuto is becoming one of my favorite Conservatives of all time.

We're taking so much incoming in the last 30 minutes that I have lost count. And I'm not in town. The last one rattled everything. The ones you hear aren't a problem; it's the one you never knew that hit you, but at that point it's too late. That ain't bravado, it's just how you learn to deal with it (yes, I'm a retrosexual, and we retros JUST DEAL WITH IT!)

Squanto, my friend, care to deal with a little UXO? This place is getting littered with scrap metal. Think I'll sell keychains on Ebay...

Oh yeah, Spooky has been out to play!

....."the American hero, Tom Hammill!".....

He can never be allowed to be a hero! After all, he works for Brown and Root, a non-union arm of the dreaded "Haliburton", you know, the old "Cheney" company.

Thats the way the press will play it. He was probably kidnapped for running a truck of overpriced Haliburton "gouge gas" to the Marines. Kerry will have him on trial when he gets back, maybe even make him testify to the 9-11 commision. I'm sure he knows something about Bush/Cheney's failures on 9-11. Haliburton must been in on it.

See, I could be a journalist. I think I'll write a book....Hmmmmmm

Did you see what a cool-under-pressure man he was in that car? He knows what happened to the Fallujah Four, and there he was, not giving them the satisfaction of even the hint of a whimper. Looked the cameraman in the eye, and told his story and gave his name. Made me damn proud to be an American!

God Bless you, Tom, where ever you are tonight!

I only question whether we're being a little TOO careful.
Enemy breakage vs. USA body count.

Iraqi governing council is putting heat on Bremer/Sanchez; they admitted as much when questioned. I smell "political considerations"-that's all.

"What's the point of these terrorists taking hostages only to release them a few days later"

I don't get what's going on either. Makes no sense. It doesn't help that the press is reporting all this like it's the end of the world

I'm glad President Bush is going to address the nation. We need to have clarity, strengthen our resolve, and clear up the misrepresentations of the press. (there was a spokesman for the Coalition on Rush Limbaugh's show on Friday4/09. He gave a totally different account of what's happening in Iraq, very clear and concise about our mission there i.e. how Alqueda and all the terrorists are investing tremendous resources in trying to cause the coalition to fail. exc.. it was great...I wish the whole country could have heard it.)

I hope someone has explained to the Iraqi's that if people keep getting kidnapped, no one is going to want to help them. They are only hurting themselves. They're going to have to choose between supporting us or going along with those who would return them to the oppression of another Saddam-like dictator. Also tell them, that we can't/won't put up with brutality against our ctitzens or the coaltiton forces. I'd ban protests against us too. (they can protest against us after they have established a democracy and we are out of there. Don't let them get stirred up like a bunch of hornets in the mean time.

I also hope the President addresses the 'Rats and their recent traitorous comments that ended up on Aljeezera (Kennedy "it's Bush's Vietnam") and were repeated by the man responsible for the uprising. I'm fed up with them> What would have happened to the Republicans during WWII if they acted like 'rats act today? Can you imagine if some Republican made a comment that was broadcast to the Nazi's and used to encourage them to attack our troops?

Every time I think they(rats) have reached the lowest point and couldn't possibly out do themselves in treason and treachery against our nation, they never fail to amaze me by sinking even lower under the sewer.
