US Hostage Will Be 'Spared'
Australia News.com ^ | April 12, 2004 | wire report

Posted on 04/12/2004 5:00:46 AM PDT by threat matrix

The Iraqi group holding a US hostage has agreed not to kill him, Mezher Dulaimi, a self described Iraqi mediator, said yesterday.

Dulaimi, who heads an Iraqi human rights group, said the affair of the missing American had been settled, and that he was in good health.

Earlier, Qatar based satellite television station Al-Jazeera screened a video showing a man in civillian clothes and presented him as Thomas Hamill, a United States national held hostage.

Dulaimi said that the United States hostage had recieved medical attention.

However there was no immediate word on when he might be released.

Yes, when he's released unharmed, then I'll relax.

Not to say that I want this to happen but whats the point of these terrorists to take hostages only to release them a few days later? Not that I mind they are getting released, thats great but Im faliling to see the motives behind the hostage taking/releasing.

I have only my instinct to tell me this, but my guess is that the captors are a probably a bunch of rowdy and unsophisticated local boys who thought they would aid the cause and threaten to kill their hostages, then when their bluff was called, they didn't actually have the guts to follow through.

Now they're pretending to come to a diplomatic end in order to save face.

They think(erroneously) that by grabing these people they can change the outcome. I think they saw from the Japanese Prime Ministers example that we do not negotiate. We only demand release of the hostage. They tried this tactic in Lebannon with American hostages. Ronald Reagan stated repeatedly that he does not negotiate with hostages. You would think these idiots see how tough President Bush is and that his reaction is the same. Arabs are liars. I won't believe Mr Hamill is okay until he is actually released and is back in American hands. I continue to pray for him and encourage others to do the same.

Somebody may have reminded them that killing the hostage would really, really, really really, piss off the wrong people really, really really, really, badly.

If the killing of the first four American civilians didn't result in the leveling of their town, why would the 'bad guys' believe that killing a fifth American would make us any angrier?

It's time to stop pussy-footing around with these idiots......

The Arab concept of "truth" is different than the western reality of "truth".

To an Arab, the "truth" is whatever he can convince you is the "truth". It has nothing to do with reality or absolute truth.

I do and shall continue to pray. How petty are the concerns of my life when I open my eyes to the world and others.

Besides you miss the point entirely.

It wasn't the killing that pissed people off, it was the mutilation afterward.

Don't hold your breath. W has swallowed a glass of jimmy carter(ade) that has destroyed his confidence and left him impotent.

The US commanders there are willing to let 100 Americans die going block to block while our Air Force sits on the ground. Mind boggling restraint.IMO
