how terrible ... yes, the damage to the brain is sometimes irreversible, barring a miracle from the Lord ...

Weird Al always makes me laugh, and he always tried to just have fun ... I love "UHF" though it was assailed by critics ... it's not meant to be an Academy Award winner ... it's humorous that the first thing he does in the movie is to try and steal an Oscar, because that was the only way he was going to get one for the movie ... LOL
unfortunately, the guy who was Raul, "Raul's Wild Kingdom" was killed in a car accident while "UHF" was filming ... Trinidad Silva was his name ...

It reminds of what happened when Michael Hutchence of INXS took his life. His father didn't learn about it until a reporter called him, and started asking questions.

Al was once being interviewed on Canadian TV, and the interviewer kept prodding him about why he didn't do a parody of the Lewinsky scandal. She asked "C'mon, it didn't cross your mind to do it once?" And Al finally replied, "Well, no, because it's vulgar" That's the whole essence of Al right there: good, clean, yet slightly warped fun.

Both...or one in the same. I think smoke inhalation might be carbon monoxide poisoning as well. Not enough oxygen and too much CO.

My brother-in-law attended Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo when Wierd Al was going to school there and doing his early comedy work in the men's room (for a background with echo). My brother-in-law is 44 as well. Sad news for Wierd Al.

Weird Al is a Christian and goes to a small church in Hollywood. I sat next to him one Sunday. He is so shy that he keeps his head down and bows his head while chewing his fingernails. He runs out as soon as services are finished. Really nice guy.

When my dad was killed the local reporters didn't waste time trying to pound down our door. We eventually go to the point that we would play games with them. The best one was when they parked down the street from my house (they were staking out the wrong house). We drove by and waved on our way out. The worst is that if you aren't blubbering and shedding tears for the camera, they find you "unusually calm".

Everybody does know that Al's father had a big-time polka band , don't they?. Frankie Yankovic had a big-time polka band. The article says his father's name was Nick. Is it the same person?

No, Al was not related to Frankie Yankovic, although they were frends (I think "Yankovic" means "son of John" in Croatian, so it's probably a very common name). When Frank Yankovic died, many people who thought he was indeed Al's father sent condolences. He's probably receiving a deluge of sympathy messages from fans right now.

yeah, they're like wild animals ... you only wish it would happen to them so they would know what it felt like to be on the other end of "the story" ... I imagine it would change their perspective quite a bit ...

Hopefully folks who read this thread will make sure they have both the AC and DC versions of Smoke / CO detectors and at least two (2) Twenty five (25) pound ABC fire extinguishers in their homes. If ya do have a wood stove or fireplace have the stove pipes cleaned professionally each season and a couple of the chimmney fire extinguishers nearby & handy also.
Cheap Insurance IMHO. Prayers for Al, his parents and the rest of his family.
Stay safe..........

yes, good advice to remind people ... I worked with a guy whose flue wasn't quite open all the way ... he woke up with a headache to find the house somewhat smoky ... close call for him ...
