Posted on 04/10/2004 3:10:36 AM PDT by Lando Lincoln
Leftists in America never seem to learn from their past mistakes. Of course, they dont see aiding and abetting the enemy as a ''mistake.'' They see their mistakes as great victories.
The fact that in the case of Viet Nam, leftists gave strength and hope to an enemy ready to admit defeat, seems to have no effect on them. They are oblivious to this. We will never know how many American soldiers died in the rice patties and jungles of Viet Nam because of the liberals obvious support for the enemy. Perhaps, in their twisted minds, liberals saw those soldiers as ''martyrs'' for their cause. The death of these soldiers was a high price but in the end leftists won and they could blame the deaths on the ''war-mongering right'' even though it was those from the left who escalated our involvement in Viet Nam.
Now we are battling terrorists in Iraq. Our brave marines and soldiers are putting their lives on the line once again, and once again liberals are handing the enemy the ammunition to kill them.
If you listen to leftists, they scream that they are outraged that our brave men and women are dying, but in truth, they see it as an opportunity to make political hay in an election year.
What is the enemy hearing? He is hearing a ranting Teddy Kennedy yelling about ''Bushs Viet Nam'' and he is hearing the man he hopes will be the president next year--John Kerry--lecturing to the choir about how this war is the worst ''failure'' in diplomacy in American history. He hears Al Gore--the man he wishes had won the last election--screaming like a wild man about how ''Bush has betrayed the American people.'' He hears others in Congress calling President Bush a ''miserable failure.'' Its music to the ears of the enemy. That ''miserable failure'' has brought the enemy untold grief.
The enemy is not just hearing it, he is repeating it. He is repeating it to his followers. He is broadcasting it on Arab TV. The enemy is singing the praises of these liberal leaders in his mosque. It gives him strength. It gives him hope and it gives him the will to fight on. It gives him a reason to come over the borders from Iran and Syria to kill Americans. After all, if the liberal party wins in Novemberjust a few short months awaythe victory of the enemy will be assured. So he will fight on and our soldiers will continue to die. Innocent Iraqis caught in the cross fire will continue to die. Iraqis who want freedom and are helping us will be assassinated.
The liberal rhetoric has given the terrorists a blueprint to follow. Continue to kill Americans, send our soldiers home in body bags and the left will howl and the American people will once again cringe, cower away and retreat before the daily onslaught of ''terrible news from Iraq.'' We have a history. Our enemy knows this and he is not stupid. He knows that the ''new'' America will not tolerate causalities. He believes we are all weak, sniveling cowards who will run at the first shot. The new America will run to the impotent and corrupt United Nations and beg for help. The enemy knows he will be safe once again from the wrath of the ''Great Satan.'' America has a reputation now of being a country that cuts and runs.
Our soldiers dont cut and run but our politicians do. The media is duplicitous with the far left by only reporting bad news and rarely reporting any good news. Pounded with doom and gloom and a daily body count, many Americans are beginning to doubt--beginning to get fearful and when completely indoctrinated that all is lost. The hue and cry will begin that Iraq is not worth it. ''Those people'' dont appreciate what we have done for them so we should pull out and leave them to take care of themselves. ''They'' dont want us there. This is Bushs war! By saying this, leftists--free from guilt--can justify abandoning millions to be killed. They will say as the mass slaughter begins, ''Its the Iraqi peoples fault.'' They can then turn their eyes away from the carnage and feel righteous in their decision and mumble: ''They deserved it.'' ''Its Bushs fault.''
When we abandoned our friends in Viet Nam, anyone who had helped us died. The killing was massive and brutal. It would be no different in Iraq and those who assisted the Americans and coalition forces would be lined up and executed. Death would be worse at the hands of the terrorists and probably would not be swift. Those on the left seem not to care. They didnt care in Viet Nam and they dont care now.
Leftists have perfected their anti-American program and streamlined it since Viet Nam. It took a couple of years to lose the war in South East Asia; it will only take the left a few months to lose the war in Iraq. If John Kerry wins in November they will step-up their work on losing the war on terror. Iraq is just the first step. The left will abdicate our power and safety to the United Nations ignoring the inglorious and failed history of that body. The left will embrace Old Europe with both arms and beg for help. That is the second thing they do well. First, they surrender--then they beg. After all, the new America is weak and cannot win.
How far have we fallen since World War II? We had a mission. We fought until that mission had been completed and then we stayed and rebuilt the countries we had defeated. When the world was stable once again, most of our troops came home. The same leftists that kept us from perhaps preventing that dreadful war with their isolationist attitude started complaining almost immediately after the surrender of the Axis Powers and they have never stopped.
Many on the left come from academia but they have no vision. Many come from wealthy, well-educated families but they dont have the common sense God gave a squirrel.
In the liberal version of the dictionary, victory means capitulation and appeasement. As Americans, we have been down that liberal road and it has always led to death, destruction, and a World War. This trip will be no different.

Our brave marines and soldiers are putting their lives on the line once again, and once again liberals are handing the enemy the ammunition to kill them. Liberals are the enemy why would they not hand the enemy the ammunition to kill them?
Liberals hate America and all she stands for but it is wrong to say they have sided with the enemy they have never sided with "their" enemy.
Liberals love Vietnam it the only war they ever won.
This is one of the the reasons that so many documents from that era remain classified or generally are not known nor taught in US History classes.
The US, via Lend-Lease, sent to the USSR in Spring 1943, tens of tons of nuclear materiel, included enriched uranium. The TRINITY TEST took place in 1945. Oh, the director of Lend-Lease - one Harry "The Hop" Hopkins - known today as USSR agent "No. 19" via the VENONA decrypts. [Today this is a WMD thingy, and recall that the Rosenbergs were put to death.]
FDR makes pledge to Churchill (and the Dutch) at Atlantic Charter meeting, to provide US armed support to defend their terrorities in Far East, if they in exchange will join the US embargo on Japan - especially on oil. If the Japanese went beyond the Isthmus of Kra, the US was committed to fight. That Japanese movement took place on December 5, 1941. Oh, the US Congress knew nothing of this commitment ... and today almost no Americans do. [Today this is the War Powers Act recognizing that Congress is asleep from too much pork and effectively neutered.]
The US was a declared neutral country until Pearl Harbor ... the convoying of war materiel in the Atlantic, the "shadowing" of U-boots, ... were all acts of war under international law. Did a dim-0-cratic (both houses of Congress and the White House) administration care? Did the GOP do anything ... ? [Today, a one year commitment by klintoon in Bosnia is beyond eight years ... ]
After VE day ... and the Marshall Plan ... Why was WWII in Europe fought? England declares war on Germany because of the invasion of Poland ... What happened? Well, Yalta happened. Thank you very much FDR.
Who lost China?
Now would be a good time for Bush_43 to order the release of these documents ... The parallels with Iraq are in so many ways ... stark!!!
What did we know and when did we know it ...
Let's have a real debate on the why's and wherefore's of commiting America's blood and treasure ...
Had Hitler still been Stalin's ally on December 7, there would probably have been no war on Hitler, or if there had been, it would have necessarily included a war against the Soviet Union.
I've never even thought of considering this before.
This is the last of these columns from (location 1). By the time you read this, the old man will be on his way back to America. After that will come a long, long rest. And after the rest, well, you never can tell.
Undoubtebly this seems to be a funny time for a fellow to be quitting the war. It is a funny time. But I'm not leaving because of a whim, or even especially because I'm homesick. I'm leaving for one reason only - because I have just got to stop. "I've had it," as they say in the Army. I have had all I can take for a while.
I've been (months) months overseas since this war started; have written about 700,000 words about it; have totalled nearly a year in the front lines.
I do hate terribly to leave right now, but I have given out. I've been immersed in it too long. My spirit is wobbly and my mind is confused. The hurt has finally become too great.
All of a sudden it seemed to me that if I heard one more shot or saw one more dead man, I would go off my nut. And if I had to write one more column, I'd collapse. So I'm on my way.
It may be that a few months of peace will restore some vim in my spirit, and I can go war-horsing off to (location 2). We'll see what a little New Mexico sunshine does along that line.
EVEN AFTER two and a half years of war writing there still is a lot I would like to tell. I wish right now that I could tell you about our gigantic and staggering supply system that keeps these great armies moving.
I am sorry I haven't been able to get around to many branches of service that so often are neglected. I would like to have written about the transportation corps and the airport engineers and the wire-stringers and the chemical mortars and the port batalions. To all of those that I have missed, my apologies. But the Army over here is just too big to cover it all.
I KNOW THE FIRST question everyone will ask when I get home is:
"When will the war be over?"
So I'll answer even before you ask me, and the answer is: "I don't know." We all hope and most of us think it won't be too long now.
And yet there is the possibility of it going on and on, even after we are deep in (country 1). The (people 1) are desperate and their leaders have nothing to quit for. Every day the war continues is another hideous blackmark against the (country 1) nation. They are beaten and they haven't quit. Every life lost from here is a life lost to no purpose.
If (country 1) does deliberately drag this war on she will so infuriate the world by her inhuman bullheadness that she is apt to be committing national suicide.
In our campaigns we felt we were fighting, on the whole, a pretty good people. But we don't feel that way now. A change has occurred. On the western front the (people 1) have shown their cruelty of mind. We didn't used to hate them, but we do now.
The outstanding figure on this western front is (person 1). He is so honest and sincere that he will probably not get his proper credits, except in military textbooks.
But he has proved himself a great general in every sense of the word. And as a human being, he is just as great. Having him in command has been a blessed good fortune for America.
I CANNOT HELP but feel bad about leaving. Even hating the whole business as much as I do, you come to be a part of it. And you leave some of yourself here when you depart. Being with the American soldier has been a rich experience.
To the thousands of men that I know personally and the other hundreds of thousands for who I have had the humble privilege of being a sort of mouthpiece, this then is to say goodbye - and good luck."
Key: (location) = Europe (months) = 29 (location 2) = the Pacific (country 1) = Germany (people 1) = Germans (person 1) = Lt. Gen. Omar Nelson Bradley (author) = Ernie Pyle
On September 5, 1944, Ernie Pyle wrote his last column in Europe. He returned to the U.S. for health reasons, but was unable to stay away for long. Shortly afterward, he returned to the Pacific where a Japanese machine-gun bullet killed him on the island of Ie Shima on April 18, 1945, at the age of 44.
My 2 cents: The difference between Ernie Pyle and the media whores of today, is that he told it like it was and he had respect for our people in uniform. The ilk from the AP, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, Al Jazeera, MSNBC, BBC, CBS, Time, Newsweek, etc , etc, couldnt pack Ernie Pyles lunch.
On Dec. 11th, 1941 Germany & Italy declared war on the U.S. and we then 'returned the favor', so to speak, the same day.
As to attacking Germany first, well that's just not historically accurate. The Battle of the Philippines was from December 7, 1941 to May 10, 1942. The Burma campaign went on from December 7, 1941 to May 26, 1942. The Central Pacific campaign went from December 1941 to December 6, 1943 and so on...
But we didn't go into Algeria until November 1942 (Vichy French). Tunisia (Italians) on November 1942 and finally mostly the Germans in Sicily on July 9 August 1943. And we all know Normandy didn't happen till 6 June, 1944. So we really didn't 'attack' Germany first.
Now I don't fault you, but everyone seem to have forgotten about the US Army in the Pacific. Navy this, Marines that (maybe it's the movies). But the Army was there first, under-gunned, undermanned and the first into the battles of WWII.
BTW, the atrocities and barbarism, aka WAR CRIMES, committed by the average 'normal' Japanese soldier (and MOSTLY unpunished by HST), made the Waffen SS look like choir boys in comparison.
And what REALLY fries ma a$$ is that many of the Nip officers who were 'convicted' received BS sentences of a few years in prison and many THEN went on to serve in the Japanese Government with honor - YET to this day we have the FBI hunting down 80 year SS camp guards for trial. Hunt down the frickin Jap BARBARIANS too, dammit!
Oh this does reinforce your US commie sympathizer point; Not one
Russian Communist soldier was ever charged with a War Crime - now isn't that odd?!?
(sorry about the long post, but the 'special treatment' the Japs received makes me sick.)
That's quite simple, actually. Liberals define victory as the acquisition of poltical power. And they don't care what institutions are trashed and who gets killed to accomplish that end. Anyone who can cover up Stalin's mass murders and apologize for Castro reveals the absolute depth of their depravity.
That's quite a what-if, considering that Hitler declared war on the United States before we declared war on Germany.
