Supporting our troops via penpal letters and care packages?
Posted on 04/08/2004 10:27:03 PM PDT by BraveHeart72
Hello Fellow Freepers,
I know this question may of been discussed in the past, so please forgive me if this question is a repeat. I was wondering what sort of online Web Sites one would visit where as one would be able to find out how one would communicate with our troops on a friendly penpal basis? I would like to express my gratitude to our fighting men and women around the World who are protecting our freedoms on a personal level via a letter and care package!
Thank you for any answers, and God Bless You and America!

Also be sure to visit
http://www.amillionthanks.org Their site is promoting a million letters/cards to be sent to military during the month of May for National Military Appreciation Month. I've written 30 letters so far and sent them all in one oversized envelope. If you give your name and address on the letters, a soldier may write back to you.

The lazy among us can still write a check to your local USO.

There is
http://www.operationgratitude.com as well. You can donate items or cash to help with the postage. Check out their website and if in Southern Cal -- volunteer to help pack, wrap and stamp the care packages.

Thanks for those links. I just submitted my info to soldiersangels... Looking forward to helping out our heroes. The last group I joined - I received two names, sent packages last summer and never heard anything so I was concerned if it was legitimate or not.

Operation Military Pride
This Web site contains how-to instructions for putting together and sending care packages to troops, a ZIP code link for information about package restrictions to particular areas, and a suggested list of items for both male and female personnel.
There is also information for and about kids, and an "adopt-a-soldier" program. Operation Yellow Ribbon supplies information about and organization of counter-demonstrations planned for Armed Forces Day on May 17.
