Brewery giant Pete Coors will enter Colorado's U.S. Senate race today, potentially giving Republicans a well-known and well-financed candidate to challenge Ken Salazar, the Democratic attorney general.

Coors, CEO of Coors Brewing in Golden, will face former U.S. Rep. Bob Schaffer and Colorado Springs lawyer Dan O'Bryant in the Republican primary to replace retiring Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell.

I attended Regis College (now University) in Denver in 1977 and Coors sponsored a bunch of student activities. Friday Afternoon Club was sometimes held at the brewery in nearby Golden. All the 2.3 beer you could drink but you coud only use those crummy little dixie cups. We would bring cafeteria trays and lots of dixie cups with us until those were banned.

Coors also has a ceramics division with some VERY high quality materials we use for various biomedical projects.

I therefore vote Coors (not coors light) as official FR beverage(adult).

Interestingly enough, their ceramics were used in engineering tests for Project Pluto, a 1950s attempt to build a nuclear-ramjet-powered cruise missile. (Yes, you read that right: an air-cooled nuclear reactor provided the heat content for the ramjet.)

Even worse -- he refuses to pollute his beers with hops. ;-)

Excuse my ignorance. I assumed all beer has hops as an ingredient.

Sounds like he'd be a great senator!! Just slightly better than mine- Tennis shoes and Cantdoanythingwell

Thanks. I know it's a conservative family. We'll just hope Pete is as conservative as the old man.

An UNSHEILDED reactor - just brimming with ionizing radiation. Wow - what a great decade!

Yup. The CONOPS for the missile had it flying all over Russia AFTER it dropped the nuclear bombs it carried, so as to dump radioactive crap all over the landscape.

I hope his politics and campaigning is better than his beer.
Coors is worse than Bud, and that's going some.

I'll take a pint of Guiness Stout any day.

Interesting info. Not sure of the relationship between Pete and Scott, the gay one, but Coors business practices in relation to the homosexual community will be sure to come up in the election.
