Brewery giant Pete Coors will enter Colorado's U.S. Senate race today, potentially giving Republicans a well-known and well-financed candidate to challenge Ken Salazar, the Democratic attorney general.

Coors, CEO of Coors Brewing in Golden, will face former U.S. Rep. Bob Schaffer and Colorado Springs lawyer Dan O'Bryant in the Republican primary to replace retiring Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell.

Brighton is in Livingston County where US-23 and I-96 Meet. I used it only for a reference point. Webberville is in the eastern edge of Ingham County.

Are you going from the West to Frankenmuth(from Holland? or From Lansing?) or from the East(From Detroit)?

I will be driving from Lansing to Frankenmuth. Is the fastest way to get there driving through Shiawassee County or going east to Livingston and then north?

I was able to buy a couple of cases in Aurora this last Christmas--WinterFest is a tasty beverage.

As to the announcement--I think this is good news. Shaffer is a good conservative but the Rocky Mountain News reported today that he is polling behind Salazar in places like Arapahoe and Douglas county (those in Colorado know how conservative these counties are). And frankly, the state GOP is reluctant to get behind Shaffer.

Coors is well known in the local community, has lots of cash and the company is a major contributor to the community. And if the Rockies make it to the World Series (I know, I know...quit dreaming) think of all the free publicity right before the election... "We're here live from Coors Field where the Rockies are taking on the New York Yankees for the World Series..."

I know Coors is a big money, big name Republican but does anyone know how conservative he is?

psssssssst............

Being conservative, or better yet, pledging to actually honor one's oath to uphold the constitution, no longer matters.

Name recognition and huge personal wealth is the new model for the gop.

Going through Shiawassee (I-69) is MUCH faster and would save about an hour(normal traffic) than going through Livingston (I-96) to US-23(which merges with I-75), I-96 goes Southeast to Detroit once it hits Fowlerville, while I-69 goes East to Okemos Road area, then Northeast to Flint and I-75 directly.

If you decide to go to Michigan Brewing in Webberville(15 miles East of Lansing), the quickest way from there is to take M-52 directly North to Perry and I-69(15 miles, rural, non expressway) and take that NE to I-75.

There will be plenty of time to find out Coors' positions during the primary season--I'm just glad that we have a primary so that I can have options to choose from. I will say this, I would rather have Coors be a moderate GOP senator with Frist as the majority leader rather than Salazar as a moderate Democrat with Daschle as the majority leader.

You really are dreaming.

I've been mad at the Rockies ever since they traded EY back to the Dodgers. Long time to hold a grudge but I've still got it.

but does anyone know how conservative he is?

Not nearly as much as Adolph, but that would be a hard act to follow(there may not be a single FReeper THAT conservative! ;-). I'm pretty sure sure that he would make a great candidate, he is very personable.

I read it when it came out(2000), but I'll have to reread it to give you a good answer on that:

"I'll wait to find out more about Peter before I jump to using sarcasm to dis Republicans."

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic.

My point was (and still is) that the party of principle and smaller government has become the party that embraces any candidate who can win.

High profile, wealthy, willing to be a "team player"?

The gop wants you.

Al Davis is secretly running the rnc, their motto:

"Just WIN, Baby!"

I work at Coors and have an internal email: Basically, wait until Pete says so himself.

I don't have any problem with the higher profile, richer candidate as long as he's the real deal.

I would have had a problem with Leniger but if Coors is real, that's fine.

I understand your point.

What if this coors guy turns out to be another Voinovich or Snowe?

Because of his "value" to the party he'll get support and votes.

On the other hand, not living in your state I can remain objective and hope for another Ron Paul

So is Owens trying to shanghai him? Or is he just a loose cannon?

Here is a little more from another article:

Laura Sankey, a spokeswoman for Golden-based Coors Brewing, told the Denver Business Journal that Coors has not officially announced any candidacy, though he may in the near future. She had no other comment.

Yeah, and Corzine, Cantwell, Byrd, Edwards and Dayton are poor people of the masses. Sorry, this crosses party lines. It is not unique to the GOP.
