A Pentagon source has said up to 130 US troops have been killed in fierce fighting in Iraq.
The large scale battle, described as "intense", has taken place in the town of Ar Ramadi, 20 miles west of Fallujah.
Sky News' David Chater said: "None of this is official yet - none of it is confirmed."
But he added: "It sounds very much like this is being carried out by men who are militarily trained."
Chater described the attack as "highly sophisticated".

True, tell them we hear Bin Laden is a sissy boy that wears a burka and they will come out running to sacrifice themselves as a target in honor of their moon god.

Time to unleash brutal, overwhelming force.
The enemy must not only be beaten into submission, but annihilated.
Now, today an example MUST be made.

Those weren't the newsies' fault. Those claims were made by the bomber faction of the USAAF.

B-52s would have limited value here, unless we have a few particular buildings to level with GPS-guided bombs. Even those can come in on smaller planes from closer, though. The B-52s are usually used for big-time bombloads against massed enemy units. Here we're fighting mostly smaller groups in urban areas, plus a lot of civvies mixed in.
The majority of the close air support will probably be from helicopters, A-10s, and the AC-130 gunships. They will be more than sufficient. But they'll be earning their pay tonight, I'm sure.

The liberals are desperately looking for their Tet, they already got their Mogadishu courtesy of the press this weekend.
Our military response looks weak and unorganized. We need to let loose the dogs in an offensive operation and quit playing nice for a few days.

By the confirmed reports (which is NOT this garbage from Sky) we had a kill ratio today of better than 10-1. Sounds pretty strong and organized to me. Don't believe every attention grabbing headline you read, 90% of them are total lies by the D students that make up the press corp of the world.

I am relaying the attitudes of the press and the manner in which they are reporting the news, not the facts. The headline and crawler readers will never get the facts, only what they are fed.
Remember we won the Vietnam war twice, on the battlefield and in the application of strategic airpower in Linebacker II. We lost it at home with Walter Cronkite's pronouncements.

But, I take great comfort in what the President has said since the 2000 campaign...that the Vietnam War was lost when it was politicized and the pundits usurped the power to fight it.
I have faith that George Walker Bush will not permit this to happen again...even if (God forbid) the polls don't support him.
Godspeed, Mr. President.

"Time to unleash brutal, overwhelming force. The enemy must not only be beaten into submission, but annihilated. Now, today an example MUST be made." Agreed! According to Oliver North (whom I respect), these mullahs, Imams & Ayatollahs (a.k.a. "Muslim clerics") are neither religious or spiritual (unless you count demonic) leaders. They are Mafia-gangster style thugs with their own turf and private armies. Their headquarters are these religious shrines and mosques that they hide in, keep weapons caches and munitions and explosives in and often shoot from.
These guys shoot from behind women and children. Women, to them, are worthless. Children, to them are like Doritos: "no problem, we'll make more"...
This, in my opinion is like the Israelites crossing into the Promised Land... They had to kill men women and children because nobody was "innocent" in those cities, towns and areas... the term "kill them all and let God sort it out" is not entirely flippant nor glib. The innocent, who really are innocent, God will judge and take care of. The guilty will go to their 'reward'. Our snipers would do well to focus in on these so-called thug clerics and take them out systematically one after another.
So, I agree with you. The response should be 'immediate, swift and overwhelming'. Real and true "shock and awe" in every sense of the word...even if that includes M.O.A.B.S., Daisy Cutters, 4,000 Lb. bombs and cluster bombs and those gunships letting loose everything they've got to level the "Suni Triangle".
I fully believe you will see a very passive Iraq after that. Even the Shiites full of themselves will think again about an "uprising".
As for Iran, if we know where these snake-heads are then send in the stealths to drop bunker-busters on their hideouts just like we did to Saddam...or get the Israelis to...

There was a former Ranger being interviewed on Fox. He said that this was possibly instigated by USA. Why, because the new troops we just transferred into Iraq have been training for months for exactly this type of resistance fighting, and we wanted to get rid of this guy before we turned over the reigns to Iraq.
Plus .. if Iran has sent in some of their people .. this may seem bigger for the moment .. but we are better armed than they are.
Sooooo .. we transferred the best troops in .. stir up the action .. and let it fly!

In the week after Midway, the "story" was how Army Air Corps B-17s had single-handedly wiped out the Japanese carrier fleet. A lot of BS about B-17s in the war... If you read "Victory Through Air Power", by A.P. de Seversky, which was written in the very early stages of the war, you will see a very Billy Mitchell prediction of how World War II should have been fought.
The author figured that all you needed were heavy bombers to bomb enemy capital ships as if the enemy ships would be the anchored and undefended German battleships that Mitchell sunk. He calculated how many bombers were need to sink the entire Japanese Fleet and came to the conclusion that the U.S. Navy could be replaced by long range bombers.
Now it is true that B-17's out of Midway sortied out to attack the Japanese fleet and that they claimed hits but historians now doubt that a single hit was ever scored.
As one B-17 crewman said about bombing the Japanese ships at high altitude, "It was like trying to drop a marble on a running mouse."
