**I no longer accept the premise that only 10% of Muslims are militant Islamists.... If that were the case - how could they silence the 90% majority of "moderate, peace loving Muslims"....

You got it, mate... 80% of Muslims worldwide are illiterate, and all they know about Islam and how it should relate to the world is what their radicalized, Saudi-financed preachers tell them.

'At the present time, the hatred of the Moslem countries against the West is becoming a hatred against Christianity itself. Although the statesmen have not yet taken it into account, there is still grave danger that the temporal power of Islam may return and, with it, the menace that it may shake off a West that has ceased to be Christian and affirm itself as a great anti-Christian world power. Moslem writers say, "When the locust swarms darken vast countries, they bear on their wings these Arabic words: 'We are God's host, each of us has ninety-nine eggs, and if we had a hundred, we should lay waste the world with all that is in it.'"'
Fulton J. Sheen 1952

He went on, "Perhaps Lord Carey should pay attention to the 70 million Christian fundamentalists in the United States who are looking forward to Armageddon - and bringing it closer through their support of Israel." Oh, but of course!

That's interesting...so if Armageddon comes along it will be blamed upon fundamentalist Christians in the US?

According to The Telegraph, the father of one of those arrested, and the uncle of two others, ages ranging from 17 to 22, expressed his outrage. "The police behaved like terrorists,"...

LOL...so it's a terrorist act to arrest terrorist plotters?

Bush was right to go after terrorists and declare war on AQ. He was wrong in his naivete on Islam and in projecting normal human values and goals on Muslims anywhere in the world, esp Iraq. Muslims don't want what the rest of civilization wants namely freedom, democracy and respect for civil rights. The Iraqi opposition to the U.S. in Iraq would have been anticipated if Bush and his advisors understood Islam. Understanding the Muslim mindset is the key to winning the war on terrorism and avoiding ridiculous missions like trying to set up democracies anywhere in the ME. Then laughable expectations like the Iraqis greeting the U.S. soldiers with flowers instead of hatred and manipulation would not inform U.S. policy and decisions to our detriment.

There's a real quandry here: does Bush really understand the nature of Islam, and is tactically separating the radicals from the mainstream of Islam, or is he really naiive on the nature of Islam and actually believe most Moslems are moderate? I don't know. I'm afraid it's the latter. The problem is that the Democrats are even worse, and anyone who really understands the threat and speaks openly about it will be branded a nutjob.

conclusion: we're stuck with Bush as the least worst choice.

My own suspicion is that eventually we will have to sort out the Moslems living here into those who are Americans first, and who support the country, and those who will have to be removed from the US.

I'm moving from suspision to certainty.

But will the politicians have the guts to do what the common folks know must be done ?

I keep hoping we'll deliver the Moslem radicals a blow significant enough that all Moslems will decide that cooperating with the US is the best way to stay alive for many years to come.

I fear we won't, which would bring me towards a certainty that we're going to have to finally deal with Islam once for all. Not a happy prospect, and there will be a profound, if temporary, loss of liberty and change in lifestyle for all of us: what ever it takes to field the force necessary. I wish I knew the best long term strategy. I suspect there is no "best" strategy, only a selection of deeply flawed and dangerous ones, some one of which will be adopted.

Yup! As to separating Muslims in the U.S. and shipping out terrorist supporters, that's not going to happen--98% of Muslims in the U.S. would have to leave. Law makers do need to highlight the Islamic commands that are illegal here, e.g. killing Muslims who convert to another religion, wife beating, killing infidels, polygamy, child marriage/pedophilia, discrimination againsst non Muslims in the work place, killing people who exercise their freedom of speech to criticize Mohamed, the Koran, or Islamic laws, etc.

If Islam has declared war on the world, and numerous Muslim clerics and political groups have declared war against America, why is America unprepared to declare war on Islam?

The "war on terror" is nothing of the sort - it is actually a continuation of the ongoing religious war between Islam and Judeo/Christian society. We have been fighting this war, off an on, since the freakin' 6th Century (when Islam was born BTW, so much for a religion of peace). Islam has NEVER been a force for peace, there were a few good things that came out of the ME oh say about 1200 years ago, but nothing of value since. These animals are incapable of governing themselves period - the only peace in the region has been when the lands and governments of region were firmly controlled by the Western powers. That's not racism BTW, it's history. Christ warned us of false prophets:

Matthew 7:15
Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

An earlier passage seems even more on point:

Jeremiah 14
14 Then the LORD said to me, "The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries [1] and the delusions of their own minds.

In short, Islam is evil - the work of the great deceiver himself.

You're right. It's fun to see the world as a sane loving place, but not in time of war. It's past time for "appearance" stuff to be set aside. Reality's not fun, but it'll keep us alive. Another liberal has grown up:

Except, the thrust of this organization is that the onus of Arab-British Understanding is on the British, which has an incontrovertible duty to "understand" the immigrant Arabs, and presumably make allowances for little cultural foibles like blowing people up.
