Intrigue surrounds Ashcroft and former FBI Director Louis Freeh testimony at 9/11 hearings; to follow Condi, next week... Developing...
- NYT: Commission officials said that evidence gathered by the commission showed that Freeh had become so personally involved in managing a handful of criminal investigations and in other struggles with the Clinton White House that the potential for a domestic terrorist attack by al-Qaida got relatively little attention...

Funny - I remember watching Ashcroft's confirmation hearings, and as far as I can recall, terrorism was never brought up.
The democrat committee members browbeat him about abortion, guns, and Missouri court cases, but never a word about terrorism.

Well, Bush was unable to make any appointments until months later than usual because of the Chad wars and because clinton unprecedentedly refused to let his cabinet choices be briefed after November 2000. As I recall, Mueller wasn't confirmed as FBI director until about a week before 9/11, and of course Ashcroft was confronted with a long and ugly confirmation brawl by Democrats who didn't want a pro-life Attorney General.
As a result, Bush was at least 3 months behind the curve.
And the Democrats are still doing it, refusing to make any judicial or other appointments. That doesn't make it any easier for Bush to put sensible policies in place.

Speaking of Ashcroft, I wonder how he's doing. I hope his recovery is going well.

Breaking news??? NYT sees "intrigue" and this is considered breaking news???

the potential for a domestic terrorist attack by al-Qaida got relatively little attention... How can this be? After all, it was just a week ago the media was beholden to Richard Clarke and the absurdity that AlQaeda was the most important priority to the Clinton administration ROFLMAO

The strangest truth of the entire Clinton administration involved Louie Freeh. It was, of course, the finding that it was Willie who stained Monica's blue dress. Just think how strange that finding is. It would have been sooooo easy to find that it was some one else or the the evidnce was inconclusive.
Louie spent a lot of time on that and in seeing that Willie got all the raw FBI files that he and Hillie asked for. Of course, Louie was distracted!! The entire administration was focussed on Willie's filth and corruption. That's why the Congressional Black Caucus let a million Africans be staughtered without saying a word; they were lying and posturing for Willie.
I sure hope the hearings don't hide Willie's filth and what it did to our country.

Yes. And so, more complicity for 9-11 can be laid directly on the doorsteps of the Democrat Party.
It's amazing that the Dims can get away with this 9-11 Commission of lies and demagoguery. They ignore 8 years of Clinton administration malfeasance and incompetence, and they ignore 2-1/2 years of GW's response, only to focus on 8 months of GW's term, during which his fledgeling administration was hamstrung at every stage by the Dims who were doing their best to ensure GW's failure.
Rush is absolutely correct when he says "What is good for the Democrat Party is bad for America". I wish GW would throw down the gauntlet and expose every bit of their culpability for 9-11 AND while he's at it, the abject corruption of the Clinton administration for all to see.

And don't forget, the ever gracious democrats refused to give Dubya and Cheney's transition team keys to the office they normally would use.If I remember correctly, didn't Cheney have to rent an office in VA? Does anybody remember? Thanks.

The fact that the NYT sees anything at all, is breaking news. It's the blind leading the blind down there.

Bush/Ashcroft/Powell/Rumsfeld spent their first 8 months in office just cleaning up the messes left by the Clinton admin.
And .. there is a known statement from John Podesta that the Clinton admin had gleefully left TIME BOMBS for the Bush WH to have to deal with. Disgusting people! I have no respect for them at all.

I heard a radio news update last week saying that Ashcroft had returned to work so he seems to have recuperated quickly once they got the pancreatitis dealt with.
