All material from the Associated Press must be excerpted regardless of source (very brief excerpts). AP photos are not allowed.

Fine.
I'm not a Lawyer, I'm a Mutual Fund salesman. I respect the FR Mods.
I'll post it from the CS Monitor, without the FR References
It looks like the article as published on CSMonitor would be ok. However, this time do it without being a complete jerk to the volunteers who were merely doing their job. They don't need that, and I am not going to make them have to take it.
Thanks, LM
Just wondering with No hostility at all. Do you read the WHOLE thread before responduing? I had a question/comment a few posts back.
Look, I knew about LA Times and Wash Post issues, it's fronted on the FR HomePage.
I had no idea that the Army Times were under the same Regs and got a little annoyed that my Posts were being Pulled. I apologize for my misunderstanding.
That said, my attitude towards Iraq is that the place is a snake-pit, like most of the Middle East. They were probably involved in the original WTC bombing, and they probably trained some terrorists at the Salman Pak box-cutter-hijacking camp. Bad people, and I'm glad we took them out (I was opposed to Iraq War II, until I heard about Salman Pak).
But now that it's done, I just want us to get OUT. Biblical Justice is about Punishing the Offender, not trying to Re-Construct the World. Once we've Punished the Offenders, I think we should just Go Home (that's a very classic Old Conservative attitude, and I stand by it).
Bring 'em home by Christmas... let the Reserves get back to their Wives and Families. Not to sound Cynical, the Sunnis and Shi'ites can kill eachother without our help -- they've done so for 1,000 years, and I can buy my Gasoline from either one. They WANT to sell Oil to us, no matter who controls the region -- it's the only thing they have. But Johnnny in America needs his Daddy, not 6,000 miles away.
That's my perspective, it's entirely Old Conservative, and I intend to Post it. But next time, I'll respect the Copyright Regs the Mods have to deal with.
I'll post the CS Monitor Article with bibliographic Links -- LINKS AND HEADLINES ONLY.
Thanks for the explanation, OP.
That sounds like a very good question to me, JLO, but you need to ask the Moderators or someone who posts articles a lot.
I don't post the articles so am not as informed. I'm just a 'read the thread and write a comment' kind of a FReeper!!
I tried. Read #304 too.
Hey, me too. Usually don't post aticles. Mostly respond. But, doesn't it gall you, if folks can't post articles already 'out there'?
I have already notified the Lead Moderator, several times. No response.
You would think the Idaho Statesman would appreciate being discussed.
Yes, it is irritating and I think Free Republic is being 'picked on', but it looks like we will have to put up with it.
I'm sure it is a 'political' thing. Guess the moderators have had so much mail about it that they gave up??
Thanks for the list of Gannett papers. Now I know what papers not to read on line, let alone purchase.
Added New York Post to the excerpt only list.
I have NOT read all 300 items here, so if this has already been discussed to death I apologize.
I do not understand how individual papers etc. can act as though they are above national copyright laws. Copyrights provide for fair usage through excerpting for criticism. Of course anyone can sue anyone for anything, and I can understand that the hosts of Free Republic certainly have the very understandable right not to want to get pulled into lawsuits, but it should be made VERY clear that legally these newspapers and such are simply engaging in blackmail when they threaten legal action over fair use excerpts.
They're counting on Free Republic and other similar organs to simply fold rather than have to fight in court.
As noted, the folks at FR provide a wonderful forum and service for us and users have no right to demand they also lay their butts on line in court, but I would hope that perhaps the FR folks would refuse to act as censors over small and clearly legal fair use excerpts. The ire of these sources is probably mainly focused on the reprinting of full articles.
A good battle response by FR might be to focus on those sources that are playing this blackmail game and prominently display/advertise/post the fact that those sources ARE trying to forbid free speech in violation of federally recognized copyright standards. Maybe a few of them might be embarassed enough to pull back on their "no excerpts" demands.

Bumping this again! Thanks for updating it!
God forbid their readers should have a place to criticize them that will be heard beyond their editorial wastebaskets. They obviously can't stand the heat.
IT is clearly time for a new lawsuit jim.
the fairness doctrine is clearly being sunk, one ship at a time.
Perhaps Attorney General Ashcroft would be interested in enforcing the right to post and discuss in their entirety all articles PUBLISHED by newspapers, magazines and such...
WHAT other blogs are getting in trouble for reporting on the news as it is reported by the news?
We only lost the last time, because the clinktons were working against us, to shut us up. That ruling from the times back a few years ago... can it be appealled to a higher court?
nope... they are just cockroaches, running from the light of day.
