[history]
In the political and scientific debate about the greenhouse effect and global warming, it has long been presumed that human-induced global warming is a modern phenomenon: a byproduct of the industrial revolution and its intensive use of carbon dioxide - producing fossil fuels. Prior to about 1800, most people presume, our ancestors simply weren't numerous or technologically sophisticated enough to alter the Earth on such a large scale.

I'm for global warming.

The beginning of Global Warming trends 5000 years ago corresponds roughly with the birth of the first proto-Americans and the early pre-Republican pre-industrialists who would eventually become the bane of the planet.
If they could somehow be eliminated from the gene-pool the earth would get an immediate 1.5 degrees cooling, and possibly be spared a further 1.5 degrees of warming over the century to come, and it would be well worth it.

I think you're on to something.

But the ice cores show that 5,000 years ago, something went awry, and the methane level began to rise. I think this can be tied to the rise of bean-based agriculture.

Its not rocket science. We started warming right after we stopped cooling!

The problem with globull warners is they grossly exaggerate their findings. Certainly pollution can cause more snowfall, as dust is neccessary for snowfall, thus we have lake effect snow in places like NW Indiana and Buffalo. But to go further and suggest that human activity 5,000 years ago prevented an ice age is just looney-think that is not supported by any sounc reasoning or science. Agenda-driven 'scientists' just puts out this crap and it gets printed. Globull warners make me sick.

You do know of the Jerusalem Artichoke, right? Puts beans to shame, every single time. 5,000 years ago they (whoever "they" were) domesticated the Jerusalem Artichoke in Kentucky, and the rest was history!

These guys change their story every few months. The cause and the date of Global Warming has to be altered whenever evidence comes to light that the older theory (from last month) has flaws.
These scientist already know the outcome ("its Man's fault") they just haven't found the definitive evidence yet.
By the way -- did you know that Man has been causing Global Warming on Mars? And we've been doing it for decades, if not centuries? It's got to be the case, because we see evidence of the warming. Now, its just a matter of finding the evidence to pin this on Man.

The problem with global warming models (and this is not a disagreement with your contention) is that none of them, if applied to the conditions of 1900, correctly predict the conditions of 2000 within any credible margin of error. So, they have to hunt around to find some reason to claim their models are improved.
Of course, in the meantime, they want to destroy the global economy, using the excuse of their flawed models, and with greatest adverse impact on the US. Socialists can't stand individual success - the hallmark of the US.

I have just been informed by a co-worker "of a certain age" that in 1956 the temperature around here (W. Michigan) was 85. Right now it's 37, with an expected high of 45. If these trends continue, on April 5, 2052 it will be under 5 degrees and we are gonna die.

More like 15-20,000 years. It certainly took thousands of years for the glaciers to retreat, and parts of them lasted until what, 10 or 12,000 years ago?
If our activities have any effect at all it is marginal.
