US tanks crush Iraqi protesters: police

At least two followers of Shiite Muslim radical leader Moqtada Sadr have been killed after throwing themselves in front of US tanks during a demonstration in central Baghdad.

"There were two or three dead among the protestors who threw themselves under American tanks, which could not avoid them on Tahrir square," said Sergeant Abbas Mohamad.

The report could not immediately be confirmed by police headquarters or the US-led coalition.

Earlier, as the protestors marched down Baghdad's main commercial thoroughfare towards the square, an AFP correspondent saw one young man lunge towards a US tank.

The tank stopped abruptly without harming him.

Mr Sadr's supporters have been holding daily demonstrations since the US-led coalition suspended his weekly newspaper last Sunday.

The US accuses the publication of inciting violence.

Lawrence Eagleberger (sp) on FOX just said we have to get nasty with these people! He said that, unfortunately, some killing must ensue. He just said that unless we are willing to put down these insurrections, no transition can occur! Now we hear that 7 US soldiers have been killed in Baghdad fighting Sadr's militia (Foxnews report 5pm CST).

This militia was attacking and taking over police stations.

This Sadr guy was spoiling for a fight and now he's got it.

This is the evil influence of Iran and SCIRI on the country. I'm getting tired of our troops fighting and dying for liberating a country with Saddam and Hitler wannabes running around. We need to take this guy out somehow.
