BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Three U.S. soldiers were killed and at least 10 wounded in an ambush in a Baghdad neighborhood Sunday, a senior coalition official told CNN.
The killings in the Shiite majority Sadr City came on a day that saw deadly clashes between protesters and coalition forces in the holy city of Najaf, fighting in Baghdad and a car bombing in Kirkuk.

"A group of people in Najaf have crossed the line and have moved to violence," Paul Bremer said. "This will not be tolerated by the coalition. This will not be tolerated by the Iraqi people. And this will not be tolerated by the Iraqi security forces." Do something beside giving speeches condemning the acts Bremer..
Just do something.

This entire attempt to create a Muslim democracy is turning to crap fast.
These people as a whole are in no way ready for a democracy of any kind, and when they are it will be because they figured it out for themselves - not because the United States tried to create it for them.
The only good I can possibly see coming out of what we are currently doing Iraq is that we get to fight and kill terrorist over there instead of right here in the USA.
Islam is a gutter religion and we are in a clash of civilizations, the sooner we realize it the better.

Nicely said.
At least there are two of here who think the same way. Maybe there are four.

As Rumsfeld always says -- "weakness is provocative". Both the Shiite extremists and the Sunni extremists are testing our resolve right now in response to what happened in Fallujah on Wednesday.

FALLING.Excuse me.
And I am not one of those who wants to"cut and run"!I say lets kick some serious ass but lets also be realistic about the Arab willingness to institute a "democracy"where they have no historical tradition of one!

This, not the economy, is going to sink Bush in November. We should have put the whole country under martial law immediately after the main war was over. This is getting completely out of hand. The American people will not stand for this.

So you guys are ready to cut and run? You're damn right. Getting involved in wars in these crummy little third-world countries never works out. We have no business there. Other than pumping their oil, at least.
If they wanted a revolution, they should have done it themselves. They could have.
What they don't want there is us. Sooner or later we'll figure that out. Another couple hundred billion dollars, give or take. Another thousand American lives, give or take.

Our troops were promised "Shock n Awe"....and to go after the terrorists with a vengence
so far all we are getting is "Shuck n Jaw"
imo

Not a bit of good news in the whole article.. Iraq appears to be imploding quite rapidly.

It is not a matter of "cut and run".
The problem is that we can not impose a democracy on a people that are in no way ready for it.
The very idea that we could do so was a fools errand in the first place.
By removing Saddam's dictatorship we have begun a process that might one day lead to democracy for the Iraqi people, but in the meantime they will have to make their own mistakes which will probably include some sort of Islamic theocracy in the short term. Iraqi's will have to go through the same sort of process as the Iranians, the West can not set the terms and impose anything on them.
Islam is a religion of conquest, now poisoned by vile radicalism brought on by Islams general failure to compete in modern society.
The West needs to confront extremism, punish Islams adherents collectively and get out of the feel good business of thinking we can create some sort of democracy for them.
Capturing Saddam and deposing his government was a good thing. Grabbing up whatever WMD's or weapons programs that existed in Iraq was also a good thing. Hanging around in that cesspool that is Iraq trying to impose democracy on a people that aren't ready for it is a bad thing - and in my view it will likely cost Bush reelection.

This, not the economy, is going to sink Bush in November. I think that is a very real possibility. I won't be voting for Kerry, but it's hard to see voting for Bush. He'll win Virginia without my vote anyway, but this could cost him some of the swing states.
I think it should. Bush is well-intentioned, but so was Lyndon Johnson.

Just do something.God help everyone stop this horrific slide toward anarchy and chaos.
