I'm very concerned about the anti-hispanic hate crimes that this movie will incite.

Has LULAC complained about the "historical inaccuracies" and how the film unfairly blames Mexicans for the deaths of all the people at the Alamo?

Once Russell Crowe was gone I knew the picture bombed.

So who directed this film? Oliver Stone maybe? I'm not paying money for any movies with Billy Bob Thornton.

Give them time. And they will blame President Bush and Mel Gibson for it too.

"...she complains about "boring" Jason Patric as Jim Bowie, who "looks vaguely pained, as if there might be an incipient problem with gas."

What did she expect? The sullen, rebel-without-a-cause, "vaguely pained" look is the ONLY look Jason Patric knows.

Could it be because Bowie was likely suffering from TB? He spent his last days on his back. These "reviewers" might do well to study a little history before they review.

The Polically Correct crowd will demand a new ending, where the Mexicans and Santa Anna really didn't kill anyone, but merely forced them to eat spicy foods.

So who directed this film?

I believe there were two directors, John Sayles and someone else.

meticulous in character development and daringly subtle

Why do I get the feeling that this means Santa Ana comes out looking the best?

Crowe is a talented actor. He's been in really great films over the years. And he knows garbage when he sees it. Believe me, this version of The Alamo will NOT be missed by theater-goers.

And of course, "daringly subtle" could mean "glaringly heavy-handed parallels are drawn between the Mexican army laying siege to the Alamo and the IDF laying siege to the Church of the Nativity".

Good Lord, I am one jaded lady.

Bowie also spent most of the siege bedridden and extremely ill. I can't get past Billy Bob Thornton as Davy Crockett. I'll probably take a pass on it.

If John Sayles was one director, then history teaches that the other must be the chief ideologist of CPUSA.

Save the price of admission, get yourself a twelve pack of Fosters lager and rent John Wayne's Oscar nominated 1960 film, "The Alamo". It's a bit hokey, but the cinematography and battle scenes are worth the time to watch.
