Man Just Released From Jail Resigns As T-Ball Coach
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The coach of a Southside T-ball team has resigned amid controversy over his conviction last year for killing a man with a baseball bat.
Wayne Elliott, 29, pleaded no contest to manslaughter charges last June and spent 10 months in jail. He admitted using a bat to kill his then-wife's ex-husband, Jim Bouchard.
Investigators say Elliott was arguing with Bouchard about little league when he picked up a bat and swung it at him. While it was just one blow, it was enough to kill Bouchard.
.snip........
How he got the job as coach is still in question. The head of the Jacksonville Parks Department said all coaches are required to have a background check, and the rules state that no one may coach if theyre convicted of or plead guilty or no contest to any type of violent crime.
........snip.....
But some parents think differently. Several were outraged when they learned of Elliott's criminal history. One angry mother with a son on the team Elliott coached told Channel 4 that he yelled at the kids.
She says after she pulled her child from a game, she got this nasty phone message:
"This is Wayne, your son's former coach ... our team doesn't need what you did tonight at our baseball game. We don't need you and your snotty, uppity attitude. I've had enough of it. I've tolerated it this long. You do not own this team, or run this team, and if you think you do then you better ask for a refund. I don't want to see you or him at practice or any other games. You take it up with S. Y. A. A. And if you want to discuss it with me then you call me back ... and try not to have your snotty, uppity, (expletive deleted) attitude."
Elliot said of the incident, I am sorry for the language and it may have gotten out of hand. Her actions were public and what I said was only meant to be heard between two adults.
The president of the Southside Youth Athletic Association gave Eyewitness News this statement:
"We have not received all of the background checks from the city yet. I was just made aware of this (Monday) night. We have called an emergency board meeting for Wednesday night."
The meeting has been cancelled, but officials plan to meet at a later date.
I heard this call on the radio yesterday, how this guy got to be a coach is beyond me.
There's also a Video at the link.
Sorry, way too much coffee this morning.
How is it you can murder someone with a bat and not even serve a year of jail time? There has to be more to this story - or that sentence was a travesty!

Think what a perfect world we would have!/sarcasm
I say give the man a bat and send him to Iraq.

Elliott (pictured, left), who was dating Bouchard's ex-wife, got into an argument over little league baseball. Elliott was accused of striking Bouchard in the head with the bat. He died three days later.
Bouchard's 7-year-old son witnessed the entire incident.
As part of the plea agreement, Elliot was sentenced to serve one year in the Duval County jail and received 11 years probation. Judge Michael Weatherby also ordered Elliot to send a $1 check to Cody each week, writing "in memory of Jim Bouchard" on it. He also must enroll in anger management classes.
