FBI files documenting Sen. John Kerry's antiwar activities that were reported stolen over the weekend could have damaged the likely Democratic nominee's presidential bid, the San Francisco author who obtained the records said Monday.
Asked about the missing files, Vietnam War historian Gerald Nicosia told CNN, "This stuff is very explosive. It's an enormous amount of information."
"The police say it was a neat and professional burglary," he explained, noting that 3,000 to 4,000 pages were missing out of a total of 20,000 pages. Burglars ignored other valuables in the house, raising questions about whether the break-in had anything to do with political damage control on behalf of the Kerry campaign.
A Kerry spokesman had no comment on the apparent theft when asked by the New York Sun over the weekend. But Nicosia said he suspects political foul play, telling the Los Angeles Times for Tuesday's edition that he is a product of the Watergate era who understands the allure of political sabotage.
While researching his book "Home to War, Nicosia obtained Kerry's FBI files in 1999. The records have already proved problematic for the Kerry campaign, forcing the candidate to reverse earlier denials that he attended a November 1971 meeting of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War where a plot to assassinate pro-war U.S. Senators was discussed.
Nicosia told the Sun that the intruders likely wanted more than the three file boxes that were removed, since other boxes appeared to have been rifled. He speculated that the file thieves were interrupted, perhaps scared off by a neighbor's barking dog.
Since the break-in he has trouble sleeping, he told the Times, adding, "My kids were really spooked by the burglary."

Ahhh but she predicted an October surprise. And you know the Clintons are not crazy about Kerry. The Hildebeast probably snatched the files so she can do a massive dump on Kerry come October.

I mean, this really happened and is not just a publicity stunt by the author, right?
Seems impossible to me for Nicosia to be able to prove the files were stolen. Millions of dollars worth of free publicity have resulted from the ''theft''. Makes ya' wonder...

Yup If she is thinking about running in 2008 she doesn't want to run against Kerry. If Bush has his second term she can run freely against an unknown democrat and an unknown republican because Cheney will not run for President.

What were the "FBI" records doing being where they were. I understand the catche was made up of some 14 boxes of documents. The theft job was professional the cops think. I wonder if any of the files were classified?
Oh Mr. Gordon Liddy, where were you on the evening of --------
Think we better check out the whereabouts of Slime Clinton, and his family?

Kerry's strategy is to paint Bush and Republicans with the Nixon paint brush. He fought Nixon in the early '70's and he would finally like to win!
He tipped his hand with the "intern" story, which the libs dangled before the press, and had hoped conservatives would run with.... and then, when that didn't work, he made tried the gossip route. While speaking with AFL-CIO union workers in Chicago, supposedly thought his mike was off, and imparted this bit of "insider" information for their benefit: "These guys are the most crooked, you know, lying group of people I've ever seen....it's scary!"
Kerry doesn't have a real plan for anything. It is pathetic really. He can only critisize and try to hook some "dirty tricks" label on the VRWC---to try and silence the effective conservative radio and tv commentators---and in turn throw some mud on the President.

Yes, but Nixon actually ended the war. Kerry only bitched about it.

Kerry's minions stole them, and will release them, and then blame the Republicans for the theft (a la Watergate) and smear campaign.Right, except the Kerry people don't plan on releasing them.
The loudly reported "theft" is their insurance policy that will enable them to "turn the tables" on the Bush campaign when the info does become public.

You can be sure that if they were FBI files, there are backups somewhere. They would never have just one paper copy and no electronic copies.

There has to be a second set somewhere for cryin' out loud, if they were that "explosive". This is absurd. Another Kerry episode of "Lood at me, look at me!" His campaign is already a disaster, in my opinion.

Possibly some of the stuff was originally classified but it would have gone thru the declassification process before being released. As far as I know Nicosia is an author and does not hold a security clearance and you don't store classified information at home in a box.

Interesting story. But I would think that Hillary already has Sen. Kerry's FBI file.

"While researching his book "Home to War, Nicosia obtained Kerry's FBI files in 1999."Well, I think this raises some questions and the public should be aware of just who they are voting for in this November's election. Therefore it should be prudent for the Senator to release his FBI files and put this behind him. Afterall, Americans are a forgiving people, right?
Was this a Freedom of Information Act request? Just how did he get the FBI files?

Think this through, folks. The documents stolen were COPIES. The author obtained those boxes of documents after his book was published, as a result of a Freedom of Information request to the federal government. Even assuming that the theft was a political dirty trick, every piece of it can be replaced from the original source. Congressman Billybob
I think you just found a wonderful project for your next summer intern.
