Former Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin continues to enjoy overwhelming popularity, even after his death. The elderly religious terrorist leader, known for his high-pitched voice and his wheelchair, could never have imagined that he would become the greatest hit in the Gaza Strip. Yet according to reports today (Sunday), sales of recordings honoring Yassin broke records and have practically halted the sales of other popular hits.
It seems that there are those who don't hesitate to turn a profit from the death of the Sheikh. Immediately after the news of Yassin's assassination was released, one Palestinian company released a recording called "Ahmed Yassin -- All the Love". The recording features a new song dedicated to Yassin called "There once was a fighter for Palestine". The song describes Yassin's assassination from the time he left the mosque in the morning and details his struggle on behalf of the Palestinians. The company says that thousands of copies have already been sold at the price of NIS 5 each (about $1), which is considered pricey by Palestinian standards.
The company manager tried to explain the song's popularity. "Sheikh Yassin enjoyed great popularity all over Palestine and this was demonstrated by all those who attended his funeral", he said. Sales of the recording were at an all-time high during the three days of mourning for the Sheikh.
And if there's a buck to be made, leave it to the competition to come to the forefront. Another record company has come forward announcing that it, too, will produce a recording of songs in memory of Yassin.
Yassin orchestrated and directed the killing of Israeli civilians. Popular all over Palestine? Guess we can conclude most Palestinians are terrorists or pro-terrorist.
That's understandable...
I like him a LOT better, now that he's dead.
