WASHINGTON -- Democratic critics and some family members of soldiers serving in Iraq are taking President Bush to task for his jokes at a black-tie dinner about the fruitless search for weapons of mass destruction.

The jokes came at Wednesday night's annual Radio and Television Correspondents Association dinner. In a 10-minute, mostly puckish, self-deprecating speech, the president presented a slide show he called "an election-year, White House photo album."

In several photos, he appeared to be searching the Oval Office. A photo of Bush looking under a piece of furniture was flashed on the large projection screens in the ballroom.

Is it just me? I am getting pretty sick of "relatives and others" who go on their 'fault finding" missions. They will be getting less sympathy from me.

I can see that the left is winning in your eyes. A lot of military families have been trying to counter the groups Military Families Speak Out and Bring Them Home Now. We know exactly who is behind them and what they are doing. The goals are to bring down troop moral. The frosting on the cake is to turn public opinion against military families. We have run head on into bias from the news media who is blocking the majority of opinion. Most military families are more than sick of leftist groups that give the impression that they speak for the majority.

What Bush's joke really pokes fun at is the blindly optimistic lefties that say there are NO WMDs and NEVER WERE when in reality, they haven't been found. That's about as damned stupid as rejoicing over not finding a curable and potentially terminal cancer.

We've seen the pictures and corpses where Saddam gassed his own people at Halabja for crying out loud, but ignorance is Bush-bashing bliss.

Is it me, or am I witnessing a media terrorist effort to trash Bush?

I pray it's obvious enough to everyone. They must really think we're stupid if a couple guys can do a Google search and unravel a whole manufactured, Kerry funded hit-piece.

Did it bother this man, we wonder, when Bill Clinton was getting BJ's in the Oval Office while making major war decisions, such as deciding not to pursue Bin Laden after he had U.S. sailors blown up?

John and Ken show, they refer to these folks as 'spokesholes'. I kindof like that title.

If there's any justice, that word will be in the dictionary in a few years.

Do you believe that the victims think of all of this as they spend the million bucks from the taxpayers????? Good grief--enough already.

No, nobody told him to protest that, and the press wouldn't have paid a (pardon the pun) lick of attention if he had.

Let us hope there is a backlash against the media. I have never seen such dedication to lie, misinform, obfuscate....It is tantamount to an attempt by the media to "overthrow" an acting President!!

I did that purely on a whim, just to see what would happen, and I was blown away with the results. And don't think the press didn't know for a second who their go-to guy on this article would be. Modern jouralism operates by creating a story then finding facts and interviews to support their creation and downplaying those that don't.

Good job! I pointed out in my letter to the reporter (I also cced a few editors as well!) that even though he works for a Chicago paper and quoted an Illinois senator in the article, the only military family member he could find, who was of course "appalled" by the ads, lives thousands of miles away from Chicago! I asked why he didn't interview a local family member. I also pointed out that a 30-second Google or Lexis/Nexis search would show that this guy has an axe to grind against the war and against the president, but that the reporter left out this information, as well as the guy's involvement with Military Families Speak Out. We'll see what happens. But anyhow, you and StAnDeliver inspired *me* to speak out!

I like that "reporters aren't stupid" line -- it would make a good tag line!

Definitely. AND when Kerry lied to Congress about the supposed atrocities committed by our soldiers, Kerry's fellow soldiers? Where is the outrage?
Those alleged atrocities have been disproven in several books, one of them "Stolen Valor".
I'm not convinced. Kerry probably told another one of his half-truths. The whole truth being that he himself committed war-crimes and atrocities, hence his first-hand knowledge.

Democrats Speak Out Against Tasteless Humor

''Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere ... "

George Bush, March 24, 2004

''This is a very serious issue,'' Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe said Friday on ''Good Morning America'' on ABC. ''We've lost hundreds of troops, as you know, over there. Let's not be laughing about not being able to find weapons of mass destruction.''

"...nope, no weapons over there ... maybe under here?''

''one of the most despicable acts of a sitting president''

''Well, that's not a joke to us, Mr. Bush. Five hundred soldiers lost their lives, looking for weapons that weren't there. Billions of taxpayer dollars were spent looking for weapons that weren't there,''

"My plan was that, on the last day [of the protest] we would go into the [congressional] offices – we would schedule the most hardcore hawks for last – and we would shoot them all."

Scott Camil, in a 1992 oral history of the anti-war movement still on file at the University of Florida

Camil told the Sun that he plans to accept an offer by the Florida Kerry organization to become active in Kerry's presidential campaign. Campaign aides to Kerry invited Camil to a meeting for the senator in Orlando last week, but they did not meet directly.

"I was serious," Camil insisted. Targets were to include senators John Stennis, Strom Thurmond and John Tower.

In his book "Tour of Duty," Kerry biographer Douglas Brinkley reports that Kerry left the VVAW a few days before the assassination plot vote, submitting an official letter of resignation on Nov. 10, 1971.

But according to FBI files obtained by CNSNews.com, Kerry was in attendance at the 1971 meeting that included talk of possibly assassinating U.S. senators. VVAW members discussed targeting then-Senators Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, John Tower of Texas and John Stennis of Mississippi because of their continuing support for the Vietnam war.
Early last week, Kerry's presidential campaign spokesman David Wade told the New York Sun, "Kerry was not at the Kansas City meeting." Wade added that Kerry had resigned from the VVAW "sometime in the summer of 1971."
Gerald Nicosia, author of the book Home to War: A History of the Vietnam Veterans' Movement and a Kerry supporter, told CNSNews.com last week that Kerry was being less than truthful about his anti-war activities.
"If there are valid FBI surveillance reports from credible sources that place some of those disagreements in Kansas City, we accept that historical footnote in the account of his work to end the difficult and divisive war," Wade said in a statement late last week.

In the top of the News, Senator John Stennis underwent a lengthy operation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center after he was shot during a hold up in front of his Washington home today.

The surgery was for the removal of two bullets, one from the Senator’s chest, and one from his left leg.

Stennis, who entered the Senate in 1947, is Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Police spokesman say the 71 year-old Mississippi Democrat was shot as he stepped from his car in front of his home.

American Forces Vietnam Network - AFVN, 1973

"Somebody told me the other day that the Secret Service has orders that if George Bush is shot, they're to shoot Quayle. There isn't any press here, is there?"

John Kerry, 1988
