"6 SQUARE blocks, 36 blocks?????" Naww...mostly contained within a 3- by 2-block area, although wind-blown embers are igniting various buildings outside the primary perimeter.

Local News Sky 12 reporting the fire "could well burn into the night."
"Continuing to spread across city blocks. Firefighters going door-to-door to evacuate."
"Injuries."
I've never heard of a fire to move like this on a 51-degree day with normal humidity.

Thanks-- I just heard it and thought "Oh crap!"

"Injuries." Only one so far, of smoke inhalation.
"I've never heard of a fire to move like this on a 51-degree day with normal humidity."
The big problem is the wind blowing burning embers onto rooftops. I sure hope they have this thing under control far before nightfall.

Fire began in a building at 933 West Broad, per fire department, which has been leveled by the flames.

To: OXENinFLA
Nope, that'd be 6 blocks squared to be 36 blocks. Six square blocks is just that.

Hope someone is evacuating the treasures in the Museum of the Confederacy and monitoring the safety of other landmarks.

Expecting it to be a gas main hit or something...but they haven't said yet and I think they would know because a spike would register somewhere in their output data.

Security increased as terror threat targets I-95
BRIDGEPORT -- A terror threat targets Connecticut's busiest stretch of highway, the Interstate-95 corridor in Bridgeport. State police began stepping up security in the area Thursday.
The response is a coordinated effort between local and state police, the Coast Guard, and Homeland Security.
People taking the port Jefferson ferry to long island underwent police checks of vehicles at the docks today.

I wouldn't suspect terrorism. Wouldn't be the first construction fire here - gas mains go up from time to time.
It's really pleasant but BREEZY here today. Good day for a fire to spread.
