[history]
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom said Thursday he realizes his push to legalize same-sex marriage has made him radioactive to many of his fellow Democrats and will severely limit his role in the presidential campaign of Sen. John Kerry, a longtime friend for whom the mayor and his father are raising tens of thousands of dollars.

Next comes some BS humanitarian award for this a$$hole, presented by some obsequious Republican, no doubt. When will Republicans learn, that being civil to the Rats only encourages them to greater heights of idiocy and lower depths of treachery.

Treat him like the rat he is. I disagree, I think this is one of The Presidents great traits; like most Texans he can be very kind and gracious even if he is dealing with a ne'r do well.

"It was an exhilirating thing..the rush of marriages." Doesn't it just make you question his emotional stability?

"I literally had a half-dozen Republicans come up to me and say they agreed with what I was doing. It was amazing,'' Newsom said, declining to name names. Reason #124 never to elect a RINO.

I concur...keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer.

"He said he's proud of me,'' Newsom recalled of the brief exchange with the president at the dinner -- a clubby Washington event in which politicians, celebrities and journalists mingle. "But I've got to think he doesn't know what I do for a living.''He's just disappointed Bush doesn't know who he is.

That's news to me -- I didn't know Newsom and Kerry were longtime friends.

This article points out how well the Dems are able to compartmentalize. This, I believe is their primary strength in maintaining party unity. If a group gets their "piece of the pie", they don't care what the rest of the party is doing. While I don't want the Pubbies to throw their principles out the window, I do wish we could quit eating our own. The Constitution party boosters, etc, are greeted by the left with the same adulation we on FR give to Ralph Nader.
I've seen previous posts by people that they won't vote for Bush because he doesn't defend 2nd Amendment rights well enough. Well, cool. Get Kerry in office, and we can go back to the house to house searches like the Clinton Administration approved in the Chicago projects.
Bush isn't tough enough on immigration. Cool, vote for Kerry, who believes that Bush is way too tough on immigration.
Almost every post I've seen here on FR attacking Bush is because he is not conservative enough. If Kerry gets in office, he'll make Jimmy Carter look like a conservative.

I like Bush and all, but if this story is true, WTF? Does anyone think that President Bill Clinton would have talked friendly with some ultra right wing Republican mayor that was outlawing abortion in his city or something?
To: Democratshavenobrains
Does anyone think that President Bill Clinton would have talked friendly with some ultra right wing Republican mayor that was outlawing abortion in his city or something? That's one of the reasons I wouldn't vote for Bill Clinton. George Bush remains true to his principles. He stated that he was coming to Washington to attempt to be a uniter, not a divider. By this, he meant that he intended to treat all people fairly and courteously. The left has attacked Bush relentlessly, but he has never stooped to the petty name-calling routinely conducted by the other side.
"The president was, as always, his gracious, friendly self,'' Pelosi said Thursday at her weekly press conference with Capitol Hill reporters. "And again, he was very gracious to the mayor of San Francisco and congratulated him on his election. It was just a friendly exchange.''
I'm not sure I accept the claim that Newsom made that Bush said he was proud of him (What, a Democrat lie? Hard to imagine, I know.). However, I would also like to know the context. A very dear friend of mine is a lesbian. I disagree with her on many points, but we maintain a friendly relationship. I have told her I was impressed with her efforts on several occasions. In context, I was talking about her efforts in some publication design. Out of context, it could be implied that I was complimenting her efforts in the Democratic party. I could not be as gracious as George Bush has been. I know many here want him to go negative, and smear the other side as the other side has smeared him. I believe George Bush is sticking to his principles, and his belief that the American people will see through the smears and lies. I also believe that he does not "need" the Presidency to affirm himself, as Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and apparently John Kerry do. I think being able to look at himself in the mirror and know he's stayed true to his core beliefs is an integral part of what he believes he needs to do to be worthy of the Presidency. Part of that, I believe, is being gracious to people who may not be gracious to him.
