With me, this commission is lossing much of its credibility!

The audience is there because they think they can get Bush out of office!

I'm not a reporter or journalist and you could well be right.

BUT, my understanding of background material is just that - it's background. It's NOT protected or anything.

It's a background interview to give reporters a jump off point to start digging for answers.

Richard Ben Veniste is the biggest partisan hack of all time. I remember his evil visage from tv interviews during Clinton's impeachment.

This commission is an embarrassment to our country!! I'm sorry for the other 9-11 families who have no part in this. I think the one's laughing and applauding in the gallery are so wrong in what they are doing. They are besmirching the memory of ALL the 9-11 victims.

I agree .. there is no need for the clapping and cheers

This is suppose to be a serious commission and it had become nothing but a partisan attack hearing against Bush

I really feel sorry for those deceived and used souls.

They're clapping because he's telling them what they want to hear. They want someone to blame and Bush is the perfect target.

"I don't think it is a matter of morality at all, I think it is a maiter of politcs."

Game. Set. Match. At last we hear the first truth to cross his lips today. Thank God, Gov Thompson had the good sense to let his answer hang there.

You're right about "background briefing." You don't go "on background" (or off the record) with a pool of reporters present.

But now we get back to the Predator! GREAT! THE PREDATOR WILL SAVE US!

I will tell you how it is going to play out, tomorrow they will do a poll of the confidence people have with Bush regardin ghis ability to deal with terrorism. It has been at 60% steady, the poll will drop into the 30% range. Which is why Clarke's book was written and released.

Sitting here watching this self absorbed man Clarke,I am struck not only by the fact that he hates this President, but that he is trying to tear down the whole office of the Presidency. He doesn't care one bit about what happens,so long as he comes out as the good guy.He is truely a pathetic human being in my opinion!

Absolutely.

Thats fine if the world you lived in only consisted of Freepers...it doesn't.

Oh please. The world I live in is all about reality. I deal with, read about, and constantly recognize the methods, madness, and reasoning of the "other side." I engage them often.

Optimism about our future is not a "freeper world" nor a "real world" option. It just is. You can choose to be caught up in dismay. But the truth of the matter is things aren't that bad.

It would also help if the majority of Republicans had the same attitude of winning with the truth and the truth in action; instead of forcing us to pull the lever for the official with the best chance to win.

I think you're getting confused with those who support John Kerry because of "electability" and those who support President Bush. Let's remember back to 2000. If Republican voters opted to go with the most electable, it would have been McCain or Powell, not Bush. Moreover, NO ONE is "forcing" you to pull a lever. Maybe it's the concept of making a decision where you have such a hard time. When it comes down to a choice between two people, rarely does one choose based upon "best chance to win."

t seems clear to me you have a problem supporting "RINO's" in an election. The pessimist in this situation will protest against having to choose. The optimist will choose based upon the hope that, with hard work, speaking out and getting involved, a candidate will continue to evolve into a stronger leader for one point of view or another.

It would also help if the majority of Republicans(those who actually believe in the truth and the truth in action) would get a spine, stick to their guns and start representing US.

I will only ask what you're doing to change the things you don't like. With every situation faced, a person can either make their position known and take the appropriate and prudent measures to affect change, they can get angry, beligerent and lash out at everything they disagree with, or they can sit back, pout, and generally become mired in despair because they weren't "heard."

I addressed, in my post to you your eternal pessimism about all things "Republican." I think pessimism is a cop out. I think it is the easy answer to a situation a person doesn't want to have to acknowledge or address. I used to be an eternal pessimist...continually in a hole about the country going to hell in a handbasket, about the other side winning, about the future being dim.

I stopped because it is the least productive path. Pessimists are strongest when they have an audience. I will do everything I can to isolate pessimists and deny them their audience. they tend to want to drag everyone around them down.

You are not making a distinction between "off the record" and "background". Sorry, you are dead wrong. FOX got permission to release that interview. There is nothing ethically wrong it that and if the media does try to cover this up it's only going to hurt the media. (if it's possible to hurt the media with the American people, they already think "journalists" are lower than trial lawyers)
