Does anyone know who these seven senators are?

Three of them were John Tower, Strom Thurmond, and John Stennis.

Stennis was a Democrat.

This is really old news & if there was anything there the FBI would have acted on it years ago. A fruitless pursuit - just like trying to discredit his medals from VN.

I disagree.

Kerry attends a meeting where a terrorist plot is discussed. Kerry denies he attended the meeting, but he later recants.

Kerry continued to represent the group as spokesman even after he 'resigned' due to the group's discussion of terrorist plots.

Now Kerry wants to fight the war on terrorism.

His past dealings with organizations who included potential terrorists is not a trivial pursuit.

Was Kerry soft on domestic terrorism in the early 1970s?

That's a legitimate issue in this campaign, as legitimate as the title given to Kerry by the media, "a decorated Vietnam veteran."

I just think it's old news and probably vetted a long time ago. The Bush machine would not let something "this big" lie around and not use it. Has it ever been used against him in any of his other elections?

I'm just saying - don't get so excited about this - it will probably go no where. It sounds way to juicy to not have been used by now, even during the primaries. If it gets legs, then I'll be excited - until then - ho hum.

What's not old news is that Kerry's last Purple Heart "wound" was self-inflicted and he killed several innocent Vietnamese children in cold blood. Kerry's toast - make way for Queen Hiliary!

Did you pull this clip straight from Moveon.org, or did you change the wording a bit?

If it's old news and there's really nothing, why did Kerry and his campaign LIE about it?

Yep, it's old news -- just like Kerry's service in Vietnam is old news, old news that the Senator never, ever tires of trumpeting at every campaign stop. Gee, I wonder why the Kerry campaign is so intent on bothering with old news...

"... if there was anything there the FBI would have acted on it years ago."

Really? No matter what Nixon and his DOJ felt was politically expedient? You mean the FBI was going to arrest Kerry and bring him to trial all by themselves, bypassing the AG?

Maybe the press can do a major investigation to show he was AWOL from the meeting. That Clymer cartoonist can offer 10 grand. :) Maybe he had a DUI at the time. Maybe he was busy using cocaine. Maybe he was drunk but not driving. Maybe he was at a meeting of Skull and Bones. Maybe he was being held by J. Edgar Hoover in an undisclosed location. Maybe Richard Nixon had him confine in the White House basement. Maybe he was in the sack with Jane Fonda. So many possibilities.

Or, maybe a United States senator running for president is going to have to admit that he attended a meeting where there was a debate and a vote about whether to assassinate United States senators!

Can you show that he did not receive them. I think it's up to those that say he did not earn/deserve them to show, beyond a reasonable doubt, why. Anything else is just sour grapes and useless 'gum flapping'.

Great Work!!!

I have ben following this story and trying to gather other info, but it all seems to be "repeats".

One thing bugs me though, and I still haven't seen this really discussed in full anywhere.

I have seen this quote a fews times:

…Mr.Camil speaks of his plan for an alternative to Mr.Kerry’s idea of symbolically throwing veterans’ medals over the fence onto the steps of the Capitol during the Dewey Canyon III demonstration in Washington in April of 1971.
“My plan was that, on the last day we would go into the [congressional] offices we would schedule the most hardcore hawks for last — and we would shoot them all,” Mr. Camil told the Oral History interviewer. “I was serious.”

my problem is - all of the discussion centers around the November meeting and not that Camil's [original] plan was designed for April 71, not December 71 (as was supposedly voted on in November 71).

What happened to the original plan? Was it tabled for later?
If it was an alternate plan to Kerry's (a primary organizer), when was it presented? Wouldn't Kerry have known about it?

I believe Kerry knew about this for a long time and that his resignation from the group had more to do with personal differences with Al Hubbard than with ideology - he still remained a spokesman well into 72 and maybe 73.

Furthermore - HE WAS STILL A COMMISSIONED OFFICER! Kerry did not resign his commission until 1978. Even if that commission was in the inactive reserves - he was still bound by the laws which pertain to officers of the United States.

I've been saying for a couple of weeks now that there is a serious power struggle going on in the Dem party. We've got news being reported that the Clinton admin could have gotten Bin Ladden. And news being reported that Kerry was in a group that wanted to kill senators. I'd bet money that Bush isn't releasing all of this, because the press would not report it if he was.

Bush wouldnt use it because he isnt into negative politics. He will let Rush, Hannity, Anne Coulter and other conservative media outlets bring this to the national attention.

Kerry never gets serious competition in his campaign as he is from Taxachusetts.

It's not a story that ended "years ago," as the Kerry campaign is in ongoing contact with Scott Camil, who conceived the plot, and is planning to use him as a consultant in Florida.

Mr. Johnson recalled that his North Vietnamese captors played recordings of Miss Fonda telling U.S. troops to give up the war. A Vietnam veteran who plotted to kill members of Congress in 1971 is reportedly ready to accept a position working in the presidential campaign of John Kerry. Leaders of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War, including John Kerry, debated a plot to assassinate congressmen in November 1971, according to a report in the New York Sun. The Kerry campaign denies the senator and presidential candidate was present at the meeting, saying he quit the organization prior to the heated session in Kansas City, Nov. 12-15, 1971. However, Randy Barnes of Missouri Veterans for Kerry, disputes that account. Barnes participated in...

John Forbes Kerry – Domestic Terrorist March 19, 2004 - by William A. Mayer We are not sure exactly what one has to do, in these days of moral ablation, to disqualify oneself from running for elective office. The Clinton years notwithstanding, there have always been parameters within which national candidates must comport themselves - certain minimum standards that even prospective politicians might reasonably meet. This year, however is very different. It’s quite clear that the Democrat Party is busted - a sprung watch - beyond repair. The nominative process that we find ourselves within, clearly demonstrates this. That...

KANSAS CITY - (KRT) - Confronted with 32-year-old FBI records, Sen. John Kerry's campaign all but conceded he attended a 1971 Kansas City meeting where a fellow anti-war veteran called for political assassinations. Those active in Vietnam Veterans Against the War at the time stress that the suggestion for such a violent approach was angrily rejected. They say their memories do not include Kerry taking part in the radical discussion. A statement Thursday by Kerry's camp said the Massachusetts Democrat did not recall the meeting, although FBI surveillance material and the group's archives clearly show that Kerry resigned from his...

On at least one point the recollections align: A 1971 Kansas City meeting of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War was marred by talk — shouted down by a disgusted majority — of assassinating pro-war politicians. Members of the group that John Kerry propelled to the center of the anti-war movement and that helped launch his political career do not agree, however, whether the man now on course to the Democratic presidential nomination was around for the debate.
