"Has it ever been used against him in any of his other elections?"

You're joking, right? In Massachusetts? In that state, a background in radical, subversive conspiracy is a guaranteed crowder pleaser.

I wonder if anyone in the history of this great nation has ever received medal like this guy in the short period of time in a war zone, with no lost time.

sour grapes and useless 'gum flapping' ????
Because I want to know if my possible future president used connections and lied about receiving metals and is now using them to get elected. Should you be on the other site for rats?

Exactly. Kerry participated in both a DEBATE and VOTE on assassinating U.S. Senators. His membership in such a terrorist organization should be investigated and he should come clean on his involvement with them.

"Did you pull this clip straight from Moveon.org, or did you change the wording a bit?"

I've never been to moveon.org, so I really wouldn't know, or care. Nothing this "big" could lie dormant for so long and not have been an issue in his prior campaigns - unless he ran against total fools. That includes the recent primaries.

The election will be determined on current issues - not 20 - 30 year old allegations. It also won't be decided on who owns more houses or speaks what foreign language. A lot of these other "issues" are what will end up turning off swing voters who will see them as 'attacks and smears'. If there is something there of substance Rove & Co. will not let it just hibernate.

Rush, unfortunately, preaches to the choir. If this is broadcast on CNN and the networks then it is useful. The best thing that could happen is if congress examines this issue. Oh, that can't work because of power sharing. Republican wimps!

This is a feel-good issue for those who dislike Kerry and no more.

It's the seriousness of the charge. /Rush sarcasm

Actually it is a big reflection on his judgement. He shoulda reported a conspiracy against the government. I guess some people think assassination plots are no biggie. It is a big deal to me.

Maybe Bush is "saving it for dessert." There is some news the media cannot ignore -- such as remarks at a televised Presidential press conference.

"Who cares. This is really old news & if there was anything there the FBI would have acted on it years ago. A fruitless pursuit - just like trying to discredit his medals from VN."

Your assertion is silly...it matters GREATLY if someone who wishes to be president associated with individuals who would even CONSIDER asssination of United States government officials...the very FACT that John Kerry kept such company is RELEVANT to the elections of 2004.

Further the FACT that he met with the enemy (North Viet) in 1971 is RELEVANT to his JUDGMENT and allegiances.....

The FACT that Kerry shared a platform with Jane Fonda is RELEVANT...the FACT that Kerry helped KILL aid to the Contras while promising that Ortega was NOT affiliated with the Soviets (Ortega showed up in Moscow two weeks later) is RFELEVANT to his JUDGEMENT.

Imagine an independent ad that ran like this:

"George Bush was a member of a secret organization, one that actively discussed the assassination of US Senators during the 1970's. Why didn't you hear about this?

WHY?

Because it isn't true. It wasn't George W. Bush. It was John F. Kerry that was a member of this organization.

Beware the Partisan Media."

"Mr.Camil speaks of his plan for an alternative to Mr.Kerry’s idea of symbolically throwing veterans’ medals over the fence onto the steps of the Capitol during the Dewey Canyon III demonstration in Washington in April of 1971.
“My plan was that, on the last day we would go into the [congressional] offices we would schedule the most hardcore hawks for last — and we would shoot them all,” Mr. Camil told the Oral History interviewer. “I was serious.”

my problem is - all of the discussion centers around the November meeting and not that Camil's [original] plan was designed for April 71, not December 71 (as was supposedly voted on in November 71)."

++++++

Camil says he didn't tell anybody. So it's unclear whether he ever enuciated this plan to anyone else or not. But you are right that it is something seldom brought up. It could be that Kerry was made aware of this thinking--since it was Kerry's idea to "return" the medals, etc., and this was an alternate idea.

++++++

"I believe Kerry knew about this for a long time and that his resignation from the group had more to do with personal differences with Al Hubbard than with ideology - he still remained a spokesman well into 72 and maybe 73."

According to Nicosia, Kerry quit during his confrontation with Hubbard. He allowed himself to be called the head of the VVAW by the press as late as January 1973.

"Furthermore - HE WAS STILL A COMMISSIONED OFFICER! Kerry did not resign his commission until 1978."

No. He was out of the Navy as of January 1970. He went back in sometime in 1972. (I don't know how unusual that is, however.)

Hon has pointed out that there was something strange about his reserve status for a few years. At one point, he resigned his commission. I saw a site that said his reserve commitment ended in 1978.Nothing strange really.

"Enlistments" are for 6 years. At the time of enlistment one opts for the number of "active" years (2,4, or 6) - anything less than 6 is made up by "inactive reserve" time. When Kerry was released from active dut in 1970, he had serve 4 of his 6 year commitment (and was promoted to full leutnant just two days prior - not somthing the military normally does . . .) Then in 1972 as his commission was about to expire, he enlists in the Naval reserves (aka active reserves) and serves until 1978.

The only exceptions I am aware of are in "hardship" cases or similar circumstances.

Time will tell if this and the other issues make it into the campaign. If they do - I will take back everything I said. Over & out.

"...he should come clean on his involvement with them."

And he should release his service record to public scrutiny, just like Bush has (at the Kerry campaign's insistence).

And he should divulge the names of the foreign leaders whose "endorsement" he claims to have.
